Abstract: We study the system with the aim to describe the rho(1700) resonance. The chiral unitary approach has achieved success in the description of systems of the light hadron sector. With this method, the system in the isospin sector I = 0, is found to be a dominant component of the f (0)(980) resonance. Therefore, by regarding the system as a cluster, the f (0)(980) resonance, we evaluate the system applying the fixed-center approximation to the Faddeev equations. We construct the rho K unitarized amplitude using the chiral unitary approach. As a result, we find a peak in the three-body amplitude around 1732 MeV and a width of about 161 MeV. The effect of the width of the rho and f (0)(980) is also discussed. We associate this peak to the rho(1700) which has a mass of 1720 +/- 20MeV and a width of 250 +/- 100 MeV.

Abstract: The formalism of linear response theory for a Skyrme functional including spin-orbit and tensor terms is generalized to the case of infinite nuclear matter with arbitrary isospin asymmetry. Response functions are obtained by solving an algebraic system of equations, which is explicitly given. Spin-isospin strength functions are analyzed varying the conditions of density, momentum transfer, asymmetry, and temperature. The presence of instabilities, including the spinodal one, is studied by means of the static susceptibility.

Abstract: The neutron-deficient semimagic (neutron number N = 50) Rh-95 nucleus has been produced at high spins using the projectile-target system Ca-40 + Ni-58 at 125 MeV beam energy. The gamma-decays of levels populated by the 3p fusion evaporation reaction channel were studied using gamma-gamma coincidences, and 20 new gamma-ray transitions involving 15 new positive-and negative-parity states were observed. Spin and parity for many of the excited states were firmly deduced for the first time using the combined directional angular correlation and direction-polarization techniques. The observed structures are discussed within the framework of large-scale shell model calculations. E1 transition strengths were deduced and used together with the results of the shell model calculations to study the contribution of different particle-hole configurations, in particular for analyzing contributions from core-excited configurations.

Abstract: In this paper, we examine the interaction of (B) over barN, (B) over bar Delta, (B) over bar *N, and (B) over bar*Delta states, together with their coupled channels, by using a mapping from the light meson sector. The assumption that the heavy quarks act as spectators at the quark level automatically leads us to the results of the heavy quark spin symmetry for pion exchange and reproduces the results of the Weinberg Tomozawa term, coming from light vector exchanges in the extended local hidden gauge approach. With this dynamics we look for states dynamically generated from the interaction and find two states with nearly zero width, which we associate to the A(b)(5912) and A(b)(5920) states. The states couple mostly to (B) over bar *N, which are degenerate with the Weinberg Tomozawa interaction. The difference of masses between these two states, with J = 1/2 and 3/2, respectively, is due to pion exchange connecting these states to intermediate (B) over barN states. In addition to these two A(b) states, we find three more states with I = 0, one of them nearly degenerate in two states of J = 1/2, 3/2. Furthermore, we also find eight more states in I = 1, two of them degenerate in J = 1/2, 3/2, and another two degenerate in J = 1/2, 3/2, 5/2.

Abstract: Searches for rare processes such as μ-> e gamma put stringent limits on lepton flavor violation expected in many beyond-the-Standard-Model physics scenarios. This usually precludes the observation of flavor violation at high energy colliders such as the LHC. We here discuss a scenario where right-handed neutrinos are produced via a Z' portal but which can only decay via small flavor violating couplings. Consequently, the process rate is unsuppressed by the small couplings and can be visible despite unobservably small μ-> e gamma rates.

Abstract: A measurement of the cross section for the production of isolated prompt photons in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV is presented. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The cross section is measured as a function of photon pseudorapidity eta(gamma) and transverse energy E-T(gamma) in the kinematic range 100 <= E-T(gamma) < 1000 GeV and in the regions vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 1.37 and 1.52 <= vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 2.37. The results are compared to leading-order parton-shower Monte Carlo models and next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations. Next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations agree well with the measured cross sections as a function of E-T(gamma) and eta(gamma) .

Abstract: We study the pion distribution amplitude (pi DA) in the context of a nonlocal chiral quark model. The corresponding Lagrangian reproduces the phenomenological values of the pion mass and decay constant, as well as the momentum dependence of the quark propagator obtained in lattice calculations. It is found that the obtained pi DA has two symmetric maxima, which arise from the new contributions generated by the nonlocal character of the interactions. This pi DA is applied to leading order and next-to-leading order calculations of the pion-photon transition form factor. Implications of the results are discussed.

Abstract: A simple extension of the minimal left-right symmetric supersymmetric grand unified theory model is constructed by adding two pairs of superfields. This naturally violates the partial Yukawa unification predicted by the minimal model. After including supergravity corrections, we find that this extended model naturally supports hilltop F-term hybrid inflation along its trivial inflationary path with only a very mild tuning of the initial conditions. With a convenient choice of signs of the terms in the Kahler potential, we can reconcile the inflationary scale with the supersymmetric grand unified theory scale. All the current data on the inflationary observables are readily reproduced. Inflation is followed by nonthermal leptogenesis via the decay of the right-handed neutrinos emerging from the decay of the inflaton, and any possible washout of the lepton asymmetry is avoided thanks to the violation of partial Yukawa unification. The extra superfields also assist us in reducing the reheat temperature so as to satisfy the gravitino constraint. The observed baryon asymmetry of the universe is naturally reproduced consistently with the neutrino oscillation parameters.

Abstract: Sterile neutrinos with masses in the range of 1-100 GeV have been searched for in a variety of experiments. Here, we discuss the prospects of searching for sterile neutrinos at the LHC using displaced vertices. Two different cases are discussed: (i) the standard model extended with sterile neutrinos, and (ii) right-handed neutrinos in a left-right symmetric extension of the standard model. A dedicated displaced vertex search will allow us to probe parts of the parameter space not accessible to other searches, but both cases will require a large luminosity.

Abstract: A facility that can deliver beams of electron and muon neutrinos from the decay of a stored muon beam has the potential to unambiguously resolve the issue of the evidence for light sterile neutrinos that arises in short-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments and from estimates of the effective number of neutrino flavors from fits to cosmological data. In this paper, we show that the nuSTORM facility, with stored muons of 3.8 GeV/c +/- 10%, will be able to carry out a conclusive muon neutrino appearance search for sterile neutrinos and test the LSND and MiniBooNE experimental signals with 10 sigma sensitivity, even assuming conservative estimates for the systematic uncertainties. This experiment would add greatly to our knowledge of the contribution of light sterile neutrinos to the number of effective neutrino flavors from the abundance of primordial helium production and from constraints on neutrino energy density from the cosmic microwave background. The appearance search is complemented by a simultaneous muon neutrino disappearance analysis that will facilitate tests of various sterile neutrino models.
