Abstract |
This paper presents the muon momentum calibration and performance studies for the ATLAS detector based on the pp collisions data sample produced at root s = 13 TeV at the LHC during Run 2 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). An innovative approach is used to correct for potential charge-dependent momentum biases related to the knowledge of the detector geometry, using the Z ->mu(+)mu(-) resonance. The muon momentum scale and resolution are measured using samples of J/psi ->mu(+)mu(-) and Z ->mu(+)mu(-) events. A calibration procedure is defined and applied to simulated data to match the performance measured in real data. The calibration is validated using an independent sample of Upsilon ->mu(+)mu(-) events. At the Z(J/psi) peak, the momentum scale is measured with an uncertainty at the 0.05% (0.1%) level, and the resolution is measured with an uncertainty at the 1.5% (2%) level. The charge-dependent bias is removed with a dedicated in situ correction for momenta up to 450 GeV with a precision better than 0.03 TeV-1. |

Abstract |
The measurement of charmonium states produced in proton-neon (pNe) collisions by the LHCb experiment in its fixed-target configuration is presented. The production of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons is studied with a beam of 2.5 TeV protons colliding on gaseous neon targets at rest, cvorresponding to a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy root(NN)-N-s = 68.5GeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 21.7 +/- 1.4 nb(-1). The J/Psi and Psi(2S) hadrons are reconstructed in mu(+) mu(-) final states. The J/Psi production cross-section per target nucleon in the centre-of-mass rapidity range y* is an element of [-2.29, 0] is found to be 506 +/- 8 +/- 46 nb/nucleon. The ratio of J/Psi and D-0 cross-sections is evaluated to (1.06 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.09)%. The Psi(2S) to J/Psi relative production rate is found to be (1.67 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.10)% in good agreement with other measurements involving beam and target nuclei of similar sizes. |

Abstract |
Using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7 fb(-1), the lifetime of the light B-s(0) mass eigenstate, tau(L), is measured using the B-s(0) -> J/psi eta decay mode to be tau(L) = 1.445 +/- 0.016(stat) +/- 0.008(syst) ps. A combination of this result with a previous LHCb analysis using an independent dataset corresponding to 3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity gives tau(L) = 1.452 +/- 0.014 +/- 0.007 +/- 0.002 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second due to the uncorrelated part of the systematic uncertainty and the third due to the correlated part of the systematic uncertainty. |

Abstract |
The exclusive production of pion pairs in the process pp -> pp pi(+)pi(-) has been measured at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, using 80 μb(-1) of low-luminosity data. The pion pairs were detected in the ATLAS central detector while outgoing protons were measured in the forwardATLASALFAdetector system. This represents the first use of proton tagging to measure an exclusive hadronic final state at the LHC. Across-sectionmeasurement is performed in two kinematic regions defined by the proton momenta, the pion rapidities and transverse momenta, and the pion-pion invariant mass. Cross-section values of 4.8 +/- 1.0 (stat)(-0.2) (+0.3)(syst) μb and 9 +/- 6 (stat)(-2)(+2) (syst) μb are obtained in the two regions; they are compared with theoretical models and provide a demonstration of the feasibility of measurements of this type. |

Abstract |
A determination of the jet energy scale is presented using proton-proton collision data with a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb(-1) collected using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed using the ATLAS particle-flow method that combines charged-particle tracks and topo-clusters formed from energy deposits in the calorimeter cells. The anti-kt jet algorithm with radius parameter R = 0.4 is used to define the jet. Novel jet energy scale calibration strategies developed for the LHC Run 2 are reported that lay the foundation for the jet calibration in Run 3. Jets are calibrated with a series of simulation-based corrections, including state-of-the-art techniques in jet calibration such as machine learning methods and novel in situ calibrations to achieve better performance than the baseline calibration derived using up to 81 fb(-1) of Run 2 data. The performance of these new techniques is then examined in the in situ measurements by exploiting the transverse momentum balance between a jet and a reference object. The b-quark jet energy scale using particle flow jets is measured for the first time with around 1% precision using gamma+jet events. |
