Abstract: We present a study of 649 +/- 35 e(+)e(-) -> c (c) over bar events produced at root s approximate to 10.6 GeV containing both Lambda(+)(c) baryon and a (Lambda) over bar (-)(c) antibaryon. The number observed is roughly 4 times that expected if the leading charmed hadron types are uncorrelated, confirming an observation by the CLEO Collaboration. We find a 2-jet topology in these events but very few additional baryons, demonstrating that the primary c and (c) over bar are predominantly contained in a correlated baryon-antibaryon system. In addition to the charmed baryons we observe on average 2.6 +/- 0.2 charged intermediate mesons, predominantly pions, carrying 65% of the remaining energy.

Abstract: The absolute branching fractions for the decays D-s(-) -> l(-) (nu) over bar (l) (l = e, mu, or tau) are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 521 fb(-1) collected at center-of-mass energies near 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC. The number of D-s(-) mesons is determined by reconstructing the recoiling system DKX gamma in events of the type e(+)e(-) -> DKXDs*(-), where D-s*(-) -> D-s(-) gamma and X represents additional pions from fragmentation. The D-s(-) -> l(-) nu(l) events are detected by full or partial reconstruction of the recoiling system DKX gamma l. The branching fraction measurements are combined to determine the D-s(-) decay constant f(Ds) (258.6 +/- 6.4 +/- 7:5) MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract: We report a search for the rare decays B+ -> (D+K0) and B+ -> D+K*(0) in an event sample of approximately 465 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We find no significant evidence for either mode and we set 90% probability upper limits on the branching fractions of B(B+ -> (D+K0)) < 2.9 x 10(-6) and B(B+ -> D+K*(0)) < 3.0 x 10(-6)

Abstract: We present a study of the D+pi(-), D-0 pi(+), and D*(+)pi(-) systems in inclusive e(+)e(-)-> c (c) over bar interactions in a search for new excited D meson states. We use a data set, consisting of similar to 454 fb(-1), collected at center-of-mass energies near 10.58 GeV by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. We observe, for the first time, candidates for the radial excitations of the D-0, D*(0), and D*(+), as well as the L = 2 excited states of the D-0 and D+, where L is the orbital angular momentum of the quarks.

BABAR Collaboration(del Amo Sanchez, P. et al), Lopez-March, N., Martinez-Vidal, F., Milanes, D. A., & Oyanguren, A. (2010). Search for the rare decay B -> Kv(v)over-bar. Phys. Rev. D, 82(11), 112002–10pp.
Abstract: We present a search for the rare decays B+ -> K+ v (v) over bar and B-0 -> K-0 v (v) over bar using 459 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Flavor-changing neutral-current decays such as these are forbidden at tree level but can occur through one-loop diagrams in the standard model (SM), with possible contributions from new physics at the same order. The presence of two neutrinos in the final state makes identification of signal events challenging, so reconstruction in the semileptonic decay channels B -> D-(*) lv of the B meson recoiling from the signal B is used to suppress backgrounds. We set an upper limit at the 90% confidence level (CL) of 1.3 x 10(-5) on the total branching fraction for B+ -> K+ v (v) over bar, and 5.6 x 10(-5) for B-0 -> K-0 v (v) over bar. We additionally report 90% CL upper limits on partial branching fractions in two ranges of dineutrino mass squared for B+ -> K+ v (v) over bar.

Abstract: Based on 122 X 10(6)Y(3S) events collected with the BABAR detector, we have observed the Y(1(3)D(J)) bottomonium state through the Y(3S) -> gamma gamma Y(1(3)D(J)) -> gamma gamma pi(+)pi Y-(1S) decay chain. The significance for the J = 2 member of the Y(1(3)D(J)) triplet is 5.8 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. The mass of the J = 2 state is determined to be 10 164.5 +/- 0.8(stat) +/- 0.5(syst) MeV/c(2). We use the pi(+)pi(-) invariant mass distribution to confirm the consistency of the observed state with the orbital angular momentum assignment of the Y(1(3)D(J)).

Abstract: We report on analyses of tau lepton decays tau(-) -> eta K- nu(tau) and tau(-) -> eta pi(-) nu(tau), with eta -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0), using 470 fb(-1) of data from the BABAR experiment at PEP-II, collected at center-of-mass energies at and near the Y(4S) resonance. Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fractions of the 22 decay channels of the B-0 and B+ mesons to (D) over bar (()*()) D-(*()) K, where the D-(*()) and (D) over bar (()*()) mesons are fully reconstructed. Summing the 10 neutral modes and the 12 charged modes, the branching fractions are found to be B(B-0 -> (D) over bar (()*()) D-(*()) K) = (3.68 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.24)% and B(B+ -> (D) over bar (()*()) D-(*()) K) = (4.05 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.28)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are based on 429 fb(-1) of data containing 471 X 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

BABAR Collaboration(del Amo Sanchez, P. et al), Azzolini, V., Lopez-March, N., Martinez-Vidal, F., Milanes, D. A., & Oyanguren, A. (2011). Study of B -> pi lv and B -> rho lv decays and determination of |Vub|. Phys. Rev. D, 83(3), 032007–45pp.
Abstract: We present an analysis of exclusive charmless semileptonic B-meson decays based on 377 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. We select four event samples corresponding to the decay modes B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)v, B+ -> pi(0)l(+)v, B-0 -> rho(-)l(+)v, and B+ -> rho(0)l(+)v and find the measured branching fractions to be consistent with isospin symmetry. Assuming isospin symmetry, we combine the two B -> pi lv samples, and similarly the two B -> rho lv samples, and measure the branching fractions B(B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)v) = (1.41 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.07) x 10(-4) and B(B-0 -> rho(-)l(+)v) = (1.75 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.27) x 10(-4), where the errors are statistical and systematic. We compare the measured distribution in q(2), the momentum transfer squared, with predictions for the form factors from QCD calculations and determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-ub vertical bar. Based on the measured partial branching fraction for B -> pi lv in the range q(2) < 12 GeV2 and the most recent QCD light-cone sum-rule calculations, we obtain vertical bar V-ub vertical bar = (3.78 +/- 0.13(-0.40)(+0.55)10(-3), where the errors refer to the experimental and theoretical uncertainties. From a simultaneous fit to the data over the full q(2) range and the FNAL/MILC lattice QCD results, we obtain vertical bar V-ub vertical bar = (2.95 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3) from B -> pi lv, where the error is the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty.

BABAR Collaboration(del Amo Sanchez, P. et al), Lopez-March, N., Martinez-Vidal, F., Milanes, D. A., & Oyanguren, A. (2011). Search for the decay B-0 -> gamma gamma. Phys. Rev. D, 83(4), 032006–11pp.
Abstract: We report the result of a search for the rare decay B-0 -> gamma gamma in 426 fb(-1) of data, corresponding to 226 x 10(6) B-0(B) over bar (0) pairs, collected on the Y(4S) resonance at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider using the BABAR detector. We use a maximum likelihood fit to extract the signal yield and observe 21(-12)(+13) signal events with a statistical significance of 1.8 sigma. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(B-0 -> gamma gamma) = (1.7 +/- 1.1(stat.) +/- 0.2(syst.)) X 10(-7). Based on this result, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit of B(B-0 -> gamma gamma) < 3.2 X 10(-7).
