Title eta-gamma and eta(')-gamma transition form factors in a nonlocal NJL model Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 95 Issue 5 Pages 054006 - 19pp
Keywords
Abstract We study the eta and eta(') distribution amplitudes (DAs) in the context of a nonlocal SU(3)(L) circle times SUd(3)(R) chiral quark model. The corresponding Lagrangian allows us to reproduce the phenomenological values of pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants, as well as the momentum dependence of the quark propagator arising from lattice calculations. It is found that the obtained DAs have two symmetric maxima, which arise from new contributions generated by the nonlocal character of the interactions. These DAs are then applied to the calculation of the eta-gamma and eta(')-gamma transition form factors. Implications of our results regarding higher twist corrections and/or contributions to the transition form factors originated by gluon-gluon components in the eta and eta(') mesons are discussed.

Title Caustics for spherical waves Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 95 Issue 6 Pages 064008 - 13pp
Keywords
Abstract We study the development of caustics in shift-symmetric scalar field theories by focusing on simple waves with an SO(p)-symmetry in an arbitrary number of space dimensions. We show that the pure Galileon, the DBI-Galileon, and the extreme-relativistic Galileon naturally emerge as the unique set of caustic-free theories, highlighting a link between the caustic-free condition for simple SO(p)-waves and the existence of either a global Galilean symmetry or a global (extreme-) relativistic Galilean symmetry.

Title Search for new phenomena in events containing a same-flavour opposite-sign dilepton pair, jets, and large missing transverse momentum in root s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume 77 Issue 3 Pages 144 - 40pp
Keywords
Abstract Two searches for new phenomena in final states containing a same-flavour opposite-sign lepton (electron or muon) pair, jets, and large missing transverse momentum are presented. These searches make use of proton-proton collision data, collected during 2015 and 2016 at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the large hadron collider, which correspond to an integrated luminosity of 14.7 fb(-1). Both searches target the pair production of supersymmetric particles, squarks or gluinos, which decay to final states containing a same-flavour opposite-sign lepton pair via one of two mechanisms: a leptonically decaying Z boson in the final state, leading to a peak in the dilepton invariant-mass distribution around the Z boson mass; and decays of neutralinos (e.g.. (chi) over tilde (0)(2) -> l(+)l(-1)(chi) over tilde (0)(1)), yielding a kinematic endpoint in the dilepton invariant-mass spectrum. The data are found to be consistent with the Standard Model expectation. Results are interpreted in simplified models of gluino-pair (squark-pair) production, and provide sensitivity to gluinos (squarks) with masses as large as 1.70 TeV (980 GeV).

Title Search for decays of neutral beauty mesons into four muons Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 03 Issue 3 Pages 001 - 19pp
Keywords B physics; Flavour Changing Neutral Currents; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay; Supersymmetry
Abstract A search for the non-resonant decays B-s(0) -> mu(+) mu(-) mu(+)mu(-) and B-0 -> mu(+) mu(-) mu(+) mu(-) is presented. The measurement is performed using the full Run 1 data set collected in proton-proton collisions by the LHCb experiment at the LHC. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of 1 and 2 fb(-1) collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. No signal is observed and upper limits on the branching fractions of the non-resonant decays at 95% confidence level are determined to be B(B-s(0) -> mu(+) mu(-) mu(+)mu(-)) < 2.5 x 10(-9) B(B-0 -> mu(+) mu(-) mu(+) mu(-)) < 6.9 x 10(-10)

Title Electromagnetic Duality Anomaly in Curved Spacetimes Type Journal Article

Keywords
Abstract The source-free Maxwell action is invariant under electric-magnetic duality rotations in arbitrary spacetimes. This leads to a conserved classical Noether charge. We show that this conservation law is broken at the quantum level in the presence of a background classical gravitational field with a nontrivial Chern-Pontryagin invariant, in parallel with the chiral anomaly for massless Dirac fermions. Among the physical consequences, the net polarization of the quantum electromagnetic field is not conserved.

Title Observation of B-c(+) -> (DK+)-K-0 Decays Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 118 Issue 11 Pages 111803 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract Using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), recorded by the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, the B-c(+) -> (DK+)-K-0 decay is observed with a statistical significance of 5.1 standard deviations. By normalizing to B-c(+) -> (D) over bar (0)pi(+) decays, a measurement of the branching fraction multiplied by the production rates for B-c(+) relative to B+ mesons in the LHCb acceptance is obtained, R-D0K = (f(c)/f(u)) x B(B-c(+) -> (DK+)-K-0) = (9.3(-2.5)(+2.8) +/- 0.6) x 10(-7), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This decay is expected to proceed predominantly through weak annihilation and penguin amplitudes, and is the first B-c(+) decay of this nature to be observed.

Title Measurement of the b- Quark Production Cross Section in 7 and 13 TeV pp Collisions Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 118 Issue 5 Pages 052002 - 11pp

Abstract Measurements of the cross section for producing b quarks in the reaction pp -> b (b) over barX are reported in 7 and 13 TeV collisions at the LHC as a function of the pseudorapidity. in the range 2 < eta < 5 covered by the acceptance of the LHCb experiment. The measurements are done using semileptonic decays of b-flavored hadrons decaying into a ground-state charmed hadron in association with a muon. The cross sections in the covered. range are 72.0 +/- 0.3 +/- 6.8 and 154.3 +/- 1.5 +/- 14.3 +/- μb for 7 and 13 TeV. The ratio is 2.14 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.13, where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The agreement with theoretical expectation is good at 7 TeV, but differs somewhat at 13 TeV. The measured ratio of cross sections is larger at lower eta than the model prediction.

Title Unifying left-right symmetry and 331 electroweak theories Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B

Abstract We propose a realistic theory based on the SU(3) c. SU(3) L. SU(3) R. U(1) Xgauge group which requires the number of families to match the number of colors. In the simplest realization neutrino masses arise from the canonical seesaw mechanism and their smallness correlates with the observed V-A nature of the weak force. Depending on the symmetry breaking path to the Standard Model one recovers either a left-right symmetric theory or one based on the SU(3) c. SU(3) L. U(1) symmetry as the “next” step towards new physics.

Title Lepton flavor non-universality in B decays from dynamical Yukawas Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 766 Issue Pages 77-85
Keywords
Abstract The basic features of quark and lepton mass matrices can be successfully explained by natural minima of a generic potential with dynamical Yukawa fields invariant under the [SU(3)] (5)xO(3) flavor symmetry. If this symmetry is gauged, in order to avoid potentially dangerous Goldstone bosons, and small perturbations are added to exactly fit the observed pattern of fermion masses, the spectrum of massive flavor gauge bosons can naturally explain the hints for new physics in b -> s l(+) l (-) transitions, including R-K. In particular, the desired pattern of the Standard Model Yukawa couplings is compatible with a gauged U(1) (q) in the quark sector, and U(1) (mu-tau) in the lepton sector spontaneously broken around the TeV scale. In order to explain the aforementioned experimental hints, the corresponding neutral gauge bosons are required to mix, yielding to potentially observable signals in dimuon resonance searches at the LHC.

Abstract A study of the near-side ridge phenomenon in hadron-hadron collisions based on a cluster picture of multiparticle production is presented. The near-side ridge effect is shown to have a natural explanation in this context provided that clusters are produced in a correlated manner in the collision transverse plane.
