Abstract: Associated production of bottomonia and open charm hadrons in pp collisions at root s = 7 and 8 TeV is observed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) accumulated with the LHCb detector. The observation of five combinations, Y(1S)D-0, Y(2S)D-0, Y(1S)D+, Y(2S)D+ and Y(1S)D (s) (+) , is reported. Production crosssections are measured for Y(1S)D-0 and Y(1S)D+ pairs in the forward region. The measured cross-sections and the differential distributions indicate the dominance of double parton scattering as the main production mechanism.

Abstract: The origin of small mixing among the quarks and a large mixing among the neutrinos has been an open question in particle physics. In order to answer this question, we postulate general relations among the quarks and the leptonic mixing angles at a high scale, which could be the scale of Grand Unified Theories. The central idea of these relations is that the quark and the leptonic mixing angles can be unified at some high scale either due to some quark lepton symmetry or some other underlying mechanism and as a consequence, the mixing angles of the leptonic sector are proportional to that of the quark sector. We investigate the phenomenology of the possible relations where the leptonic mixing angles are proportional to the quark mixing angles at the unification scale by taking into account the latest experimental constraints from the neutrino sector. These relations are able to explain the pattern of leptonic mixing at the low scale and thereby hint that these relations could be possible signatures of a quark lepton symmetry or some other underlying quark lepton mixing unification mechanism at some high scale linked to Grand Unified Theories.

Abstract: This paper presents measurements of distributions of charged particles which are produced in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. A special dataset recorded in 2012 with a small number of interactions per beam crossing (below 0.004) and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 160 μb(-1) was used. A minimumbias trigger was utilised to select a data sample of more than 9 million collision events. The multiplicity, pseudorapidity, and transverse momentum distributions of charged particles are shown in different regions of kinematics and charged-particle multiplicity, including measurements of final states at high multiplicity. The results are corrected for detector effects and are compared to the predictions of various Monte Carlo event generator models which simulate the full hadronic final state.

Abstract: A family of discrete-time quantum walks (DTQWs) on the line with an exact discrete U(N) gauge invariance is introduced. It is shown that the continuous limit of these DTQWs, when it exists, coincides with the dynamics of a Dirac fermion coupled to usual U(N) gauge fields in two-dimensional spacetime. A discrete generalization of the usual U(N) curvature is also constructed. An alternate interpretation of these results in terms of superimposed U(1) Maxwell fields and SU(N) gauge fields is discussed in the Appendix. Numerical simulations are also presented, which explore the convergence of the DTQWs towards their continuous limit and which also compare the DTQWs with classical (i.e., nonquantum) motions in classical SU(2) fields. The results presented in this paper constitute a first step towards quantum simulations of generic Yang-Mills gauge theories through DTQWs.

Abstract: Using the eight time dependences e(-Gamma t)(1+C(i)cos Delta mt+S(i)sin Delta mt) for the decays Upsilon (4S) -> B-0(B) over bar (0) -> f(j)f(k), with the decay into a flavor-specific state f(j) = l(+/-)X before or after the decay into a CP eigenstate f(k) = c (c) over barK(S,L), as measured by the BABAR experiment, we determine the three CPT-sensitive parameters Re(z) and Im(z) in B-0-(B) over bar (0) mixing and vertical bar(A) over bar /A vertical bar in B-0 -> c (c) over barK(0) decays. We find Im(z) = 0.010 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.013, Re(z) = -0.065 +/- 0.028 +/- 0.014, and vertical bar(A) over bar /A vertical bar = 0.999 +/- 0.023 +/- 0.017, in agreement with CPT symmetry.

Abstract: Radiative (B) over bar (0)((B) over bar (0)(s)) -> J/psi gamma decays provide an interesting case to test our understanding of ( non) perturbative QCD and eventually to probe physics beyond the standard model. Recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported an upper bound, updating the results of the BABAR Collaboration. Previous theoretical predictions based on QCD factorization or perturbative QCD have shown large variations due to different treatment of nonfactorizable contributions and meson-photon transitions. In this paper, we report on a novel approach to estimate the decay rates, which is based on a recently proposed model for B decays and the vector meson dominance hypothesis, widely tested in the relevant energy regions. The predicted branching ratios are Br[(B) over bar (0) -> J/psi gamma] = (3.50 +/- 0.34(-0.63)(+1.12)) x 10(-8) and Br[(B) over bar (0)(s) -> J/psi gamma] = (7.20 +/- 0.68(-1.30)(+2.31)) x 10(-7). The first uncertainty is systematic and the second is statistical, originating from the experimental (B) over bar (0)(s) -> J/psi gamma branching ratio.

Abstract: Many models of physics beyond the standard model predict the existence of new Abelian forces with new gauge bosons mediating interactions between “dark sectors” and the standard model. We report a search for a dark boson Z' coupling only to the second and third generations of leptons in the reaction e(+)e(-) -> mu(+)mu(-) Z', Z' -> mu(+)mu(-) using 514 fb(-1) of data collected by the BABAR experiment. No significant signal is observed for Z' masses in the range 0.212-10 GeV. Limits on the coupling parameter g' as low as 7 x 10(-4) are derived, leading to improvements in the bounds compared to those previously derived from neutrino experiments.

Abstract: A search for muon neutrinos originating from dark matter annihilations in the Sun is performed using the data recorded by the ANTARES neutrino telescope from 2007 to 2012. In order to obtain the best possible sensitivities to dark matter signals, an optimisation of the event selection criteria is performed taking into account the background of atmospheric muons, atmospheric neutrinos and the energy spectra of the expected neutrino signals. No significant excess over the background is observed and 90% C.L. upper limits on the neutrino flux, the spin-dependent and spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross-sections are derived for WIMP masses ranging from 50 GeV to 5 TeV for the annihilation channels WIMP + WIMP -> b (b) over bar, W+W- and tau(+)tau(-).

Abstract: Searches for high-mass resonances in the dijet invariant mass spectrum with one or two jets identified as b-jets are performed using an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of root S = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of anomalous phenomena is observed in the data, which are used to exclude, at 95% credibility level, excited b* quarks with masses from 1.1 TeV to 2.1 TeV and leptophobic Z' bosons with masses from 1.1 TeV to 1.5 TeV. Contributions of a Gaussian signal shape with effective cross sections ranging from approximately 0.4 to 0.001 pb are also excluded in the mass range 1.5-5.0 TeV.

Abstract: The Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda phi decay is observed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) recorded by the LHCb experiment. The decay proceeds at leading order via a b -> s<(s)double over bar>s loop transition and is therefore sensitive to the possible presence of particles beyond the Standard Model. A first observation is reported with a significance of 5.9 standard deviations. The value of the branching fraction is measured to be (5.18 +/- 1.04 +/- 0.35(-0.62)(+0.67)) x 10(-6), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is related to external inputs. Triple-product asymmetries are measured to be consistent with zero.
