Abstract: Wormholes are hypothetical shortcuts in space-time that in general relativity unavoidably violate all of the pointwise energy conditions. In this paper, we consider several wormhole spacetimes that, as opposed to the standard designer procedure frequently employed in the literature, arise directly from gravitational actions including additional terms resulting from contractions of the Ricci tensor with the metric, and which are formulated assuming independence between metric and connection (Palatini approach). We reinterpret such wormhole solutions under the prism of General Relativity and study the matter sources that thread them. We discuss the size of violation of the energy conditions in different cases and how this is related to the same spacetimes when viewed from the modified gravity side.

Abstract: The T2K experiment reports an updated analysis of neutrino and antineutrino oscillations in appearance and disappearance channels. A sample of electron neutrino candidates at Super-Kamiokande in which a pion decay has been tagged is added to the four single-ring samples used in previous T2K oscillation analyses. Through combined analyses of these five samples, simultaneous measurements of four oscillation parameters, vertical bar Delta m(32)(2)vertical bar, sin(2) theta(23), sin(2) theta(13), and delta(CP) and of the mass ordering are made. A set of studies of simulated data indicates that the sensitivity to the oscillation parameters is not limited by neutrino interaction model uncertainty. Multiple oscillation analyses are performed, and frequentist and Bayesian intervals are presented for combinations of the oscillation parameters with and without the inclusion of reactor constraints on sin(2) theta(13). When combined with reactor measurements, the hypothesis of CP conservation (delta(CP) = 0 or pi) is excluded at 90% confidence level. The 90% confidence region for delta(CP) is [-2.95, -0.44] ([-1.47, -1.27]) for normal (inverted) ordering. The central values and 68% confidence intervals for the other oscillation parameters for normal (inverted) ordering are Delta m(32)(2) = 2.54 +/- 0.08(2.51 +/- 0.08) x 10(-3) eV(2)/c(4) and sin(2) theta(23) = 0.55(-0.09)(+0.005) (0.55(-0.08)(+0.05)), compatible with maximal mixing. In the Bayesian analysis, the data weakly prefer normal ordering (Bayes factor 3.7) and the upper octant for sin(2) theta(23) (Bayes factor 2.4).

Abstract: We perform a complete and systematic calculation of the octet-baryon form factors within the fully covariant approach of SU(3) chiral perturbation theory at O(p(3)). We use the extended on-mass shell renormalization scheme and include explicitly the vector mesons and the spin-3/2 decuplet intermediate states. Comparing these predictions with data including magnetic moments, charges, and magnetic radii, we determine the unknown low-energy constants and give predictions for yet unmeasured observables, such as the magnetic moment of the Sigma(0) and the charge and magnetic radii of the hyperons.

Abstract: The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment will search for dark matter particle interactions with a detector containing a total of 10 tonnes of liquid xenon within a double -vessel cryostat. The large mass and proximity of the cryostat to the active detector volume demand the use of material with extremely low intrinsic radioactivity. We report on the radioassay campaign conducted to identify suitable metals, the determination of factors limiting radiopure production, and the selection of titanium for construction of the LZ cryostat and other detector components. This titanium has been measured with activities of U-238(e) < 1.6 mBq/kg, U-238(I) < 0.09 mBq/kg, Th-232(e) = 0.28 +/- 0.03 mBq/kg, Th-232(I) = 0.25 +/- 0.02 mBq/kg, K-40 <0.54 mBq/kg, and (60) Co <0.02 mBq/kg (68% CL). Such low intrinsic activities, which are some of the lowest ever reported for titanium, enable its use for future dark matter and other rare event searches. Monte Carlo simulations have been performed to assess the expected background contribution from the LZ cryostat with this radioactivity. In 1,000 days of WIMP search exposure of a 5.6-tonne fiducial mass, the cryostat will contribute only a mean background of 0.160 +/- 0.001(stat) +/- 0.030(sys) counts.

Abstract: In warm dark matter scenarios structure formation is suppressed on small scales with respect to the cold dark matter case, reducing the number of low-mass halos and the fraction of ionized gas at high redshifts and thus, delaying reionization. This has an impact on the ionization history of the Universe and measurements of the optical depth to reionization, of the evolution of the global fraction of ionized gas and of the thermal history of the intergalactic medium, can be used to set constraints on the mass of the dark matter particle. However, the suppression of the fraction of ionized medium in these scenarios can be partly compensated by varying other parameters, as the ionization efficiency or the minimum mass for which halos can host star-forming galaxies. Here we use different data sets regarding the ionization and thermal histories of the Universe and, taking into account the degeneracies from several astrophysical parameters, we obtain a lower bound on the mass of thermal warm dark matter candidates of m(X) > 1.3 keV, or m(s) > 5.5 keV for the case of sterile neutrinos nonresonantly produced in the early Universe, both at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: The decays chi(c1) -> J/psi mu(+)mu(-) and chi(c1) -> J/psi mu(+)mu(-) are observed and used to study the resonance parameters of the chi(c1) and chi(c2) mesons. The masses of these states are measured to be m(chi(c1)) = 3510.71 +/- 0.04(stat) +/- 0.09(syst) MeV and m(chi(c2)) = 3556.10 +/- 0.06(stat) +/- 0.11(syst) MeV, where the knowledge of the momentum scale for charged particles dominates the systematic uncertainty. The momentum-scale uncertainties largely cancel in the mass difference m(chi(c2)) – m(chi(c1)) = 45.39 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.03(syst) MeV. The natural width of the chi(c2) meson is measured to be Gamma(chi(c2)) = 2.10 +/- 0.20(stat) +/- 0.02(syst) MeV. These results are in good agreement with and have comparable precision to the current world averages.

Abstract: Motivated by discrete flavour symmetry models, we analyse Spontaneous CP Violation (SCPV) for potentials involving three or six Higgs fi elds (both electroweak doublets and singlets) which fall into irreducible triplet representations of discrete symmetries belonging to the Delta(3n(2)) and Delta(6n(2)) series, including A(4), S-4, Delta(27) and Delta(54). For each case, we give the potential and fi nd various global minima for di ff erent regions of the parameter space of the potential. Using CP-odd basis Invariants that indicate the presence of Spontaneous CP Violation we separate the VEVs into those that do or do not violate CP. In cases where CP is preserved we reveal a CP symmetry of the potential that is preserved by those VEVs, otherwise we display a non-zero CP-odd Invariant. Finally we identify interesting cases where there is Spontaneous Geometrical CP Violation in which the VEVs have geometrical phases.

Abstract: Measurements of CP observables in B-+/- -> DK*(+/-) decays are presented, where D denotes a superposition of D-0 and (D) over bar (0) meson states. Decays of the D meson to K-pi(+), K-K+, pi(-)pi(+), K-pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) and pi(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) are used and the K*(+/-) meson is reconstructed in the K-S(0)pi(+/-) final state. This analysis uses a data sample of pp collisions collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 fb(-1), 2 fb(-1) and 1.8 fb(-1) at centre-of-mass energies root s = 7TeV, 8TeV and 13TeV, respectively. The sensitivity of the results to the CKM angle gamma is discussed.

Abstract: Supersymmetric theories supplemented by an underlying flavor-symmetry G(f) provide a rich playground for model building aimed at explaining the flavor structure of the Standard Model. In the case where supersymmetry breaking is mediated by gravity, the soft-breaking Lagrangian typically exhibits large tree-level flavor violating e ff ects, even if it stems from an ultraviolet flavor-conserving origin. Building on previous work, we continue our phenomenological analysis of these models with a particular emphasis on leptonicflavor observables. We consider three representative models which aim to explain the flavor structure of the lepton sector, with symmetry groups G(f) = Delta (27), A(4); and S-3.

Abstract: We present the calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections for top-quark pair production in association with an additional jet at hadron colliders, using the modified minimal subtraction scheme to renormalize the top- quark mass. The results are compared to measurements at the Large Hadron Collider run I. In particular, we determine the top-quark running mass from a tit of the theoretical results presented here to the LHC data.
