Title Black holes and equivariant charge vectors in N=2, d=4 supergravity Type Journal Article

Abstract We extend previous investigations on the construction of extremal supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric solutions in the H-FGK formalism to unconventional solutions with anharmonic terms. We show how the use of fake charge vectors equivariant under duality transformations simplifies and clarifies the task of identification of the attractors of the theory.

Title k-Leibniz algebras from lower order ones: From Lie triple to Lie l-ple systems Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of Mathematical Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Math. Phys.
Volume 54 Issue 9 Pages 093510 - 14pp

Abstract Two types of higher order Lie l-ple systems are introduced in this paper. They are defined by brackets with l > 3 arguments satisfying certain conditions, and generalize the well-known Lie triple systems. One of the generalizations uses a construction that allows us to associate a (2n – 3)-Leibniz algebra pound with a metric n-Leibniz algebra () pound over tilde by using a 2(n – 1)-linear Kasymov trace form for () pound over tilde. Some specific types of k-Leibniz algebras, relevant in the construction, are introduced as well. Both higher order Lie l-ple generalizations reduce to the standard Lie triple systems for l = 3.

Title A first search for coincident gravitational waves and high energy neutrinos using LIGO, Virgo and ANTARES data from 2007 Type Journal Article

Abstract We present the results of the first search for gravitational wave bursts associated with high energy neutrinos. Together, these messengers could reveal new, hidden sources that are not observed by conventional photon astronomy, particularly at high energy. Our search uses neutrinos detected by the underwater neutrino telescope ANTARES in its 5 line configuration during the period January – September 2007, which coincided with the fifth and first science runs of LIGO and Virgo, respectively. The LIGO-Virgo data were analysed for candidate gravitational-wave signals coincident in time and direction with the neutrino events. No significant coincident events were observed. We place limits on the density of joint high energy neutrino – gravitational wave emission events in the local universe, and compare them with densities of merger and core-collapse events.

Title Collective nature of low-lying excitations in 70,72,74Zn from lifetime measurements using the AGATA spectrometer demonstrator Type Journal Article

Abstract Background: Neutron-rich nuclei with protons in the fp shell show an onset of collectivity around N=40. Spectroscopic information is required to understand the underlying mechanism and to determine the relevant terms of the nucleon-nucleon interaction that are responsible for the evolution of the shell structure in this mass region. Methods: We report on the lifetime measurement of the first 2+ and 4+ states in 70,72,74Zn and the first 6+ state in 72Zn using the recoil distance Doppler shift method. The experiment was carried out at the INFN Laboratory of Legnaro with the AGATA demonstrator, first phase of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array of highly segmented, high-purity germanium detectors coupled to the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer. The excited states of the nuclei of interest were populated in the deep inelastic scattering of a 76Ge beam impinging on a 238U target. Results: The maximum of collectivity along the chain of Zn isotopes is observed for 72Zn at N=42. An unexpectedly long lifetime of 20−5.2+1.8 ps was measured for the 4+ state in 74Zn. Conclusions: Our results lead to small values of the B(E2;41+→21+)/B(E2;21+→01+) ratio for 72,74Zn, suggesting a significant noncollective contribution to these excitations. These experimental results are not reproduced by state-of-the-art microscopic models and call for lifetime measurements beyond the first 2+ state in heavy zinc and nickel isotopes.

Title A non-perturbative study of massive gauge theories Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 213 - 20pp
Keywords
Abstract We consider a non-perturbative formulation of an SU(2) massive gauge theory on a space-time lattice, which is also a discretised gauged non-linear chiral model. The lattice model is shown to have an exactly conserved global SU(2) symmetry. If a scaling region for the lattice model exists and the lightest degrees of freedom are spin one vector particles with the same quantum numbers as the conserved current, we argue that the most general effective theory describing their low-energy dynamics must be a massive gauge theory. We present results of a exploratory numerical simulation of the model and find indications for the presence of a scaling region where both a triplet vector and a scalar remain light.
