Title Higgs Lepton Flavor Violating Decays in Two Higgs Doublet Models Type Journal Article
Year 2019 Publication Frontiers in Physics Abbreviated Journal Front. Physics
  Volume 7 Issue Pages 174 - 13pp
Keywords (down) Higgs boson; lepton flavor violating decays; beyond the standard model; two Higgs doublet models; effective field theory
Abstract The discovery of a non-zero rate for a lepton flavor violating decay mode of the Higgs boson would definitely be an indication of New Physics. We review the prospects for such signal in Two Higgs Doublet Models, in particular for Higgs boson decays into tau μfinal states. We will show that this scenario contains all the necessary ingredients to provide large flavor violating rates and still be compatible with the stringent limits from direct searches and low-energy flavor experiments.

Title Charge asymmetries of top quarks at hadron colliders revisited Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 063 - 25pp
Keywords (down) Heavy Quark Physics; Hadronic Colliders; Standard Model; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract A sizeable difference in the differential production cross section of top-compared to antitop-quark production, denoted charge asymittetm has been observed at the Tevatron. The experimental results seem to exceed the theory predictions based on the Standard Model by a significant amount and have triggered a large number of suggestions for “new physics'. In the present paper the Standard Model predictions for Tevatron and LHe experiments are revisited. This includes a reanalysis of electromagnetic as well as weak corrections, leading to a shift of the asymmetry by roughly a factor 1.1 when compared to the results of the first papers on this subject. The impact of cuts on the transverse momentum of the top-antitop system is studied. Restricting the it system to a transverse momentum less than 20 GeV leads to an enhancement of the asymmetries by factors between 1.3 and 1.5, indicating the importance of an improved understanding of the tt-momentum distribution. Predictions for similar measurements at the LHC are presented, demonstrating the sensitivity of the large rapidity region bot ti to the Standard Model contribution and effects from ”new physics".

Title Search for supersymmetry in events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, and at least one tau lepton in 20 fb(-1) of root s=8 TeV proton-proton collision data with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 103 - 54pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Tau Physics; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract A search for supersymmetry (SUSY) in events with large missing transverse momentum, jets, at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton and zero or one additional light leptons (electron/muon), has been performed using 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s = 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed in the various signal regions and 95% confidence level upper limits on the visible cross section for new phenomena are set. The results of the analysis are interpreted in several SUSY scenarios, significantly extending previous limits obtained in the same final states. In the framework of minimal gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models, values of the SUSY breaking scale Lambda below 63 TeV are excluded, independently of tan beta. Exclusion limits are also derived for an mSUGRA/CMSSM model, in both the R-parity-conserving and R-parity-violating case. A further interpretation is presented in a framework of natural gauge mediation, in which the gluino is assumed to be the only light coloured sparticle and gluino masses below 1090 GeV are excluded.

Title Search for heavy resonances decaying into a Z or W boson and a Higgs boson in final states with leptons and b-jets in 139 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 06 Issue 6 Pages 016 - 68pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Beyond the Standard Model Searches
Abstract This article presents a search for new resonances decaying into a Z or W boson and a 125 GeV Higgs boson h, and it targets the v (v) over barb (b) over bar, l(+)l(-) b (b) over bar, or l(+/-) vb (b) over bar final states, where l – e or mu, in proton-proton collisions at root s – 13 TeV. The data used correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1) collected by the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the LHC at CERN. The search is conducted by examining the reconstructed invariant or transverse mass distributions of Zh or Wh candidates for evidence of a localised excess in the mass range from 220 GeV to 5TeV. No significant excess is observed and 95% confidence-level upper limits between 1.3 pb and 0.3 fb are placed on the production cross section times branching fraction of neutral and charged spin-1 resonances and CP-odd scalar bosons. These limits are converted into constraints on the parameter space of the Heavy Vector Triplet model and the two-Higgs-doublet model.

Title Search for anomalous production of prompt same-sign lepton pairs and pair-produced doubly charged Higgs bosons with root s=8 TeV pp collisions using the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 03 Issue 3 Pages 041 - 48pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Beyond Standard Model; Particle and resonance production
Abstract A low-background inclusive search for new physics in events with same-sign dileptons is presented. The search uses proton-proton collisions corresponding to 20.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity taken in 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of 8TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Pairs of isolated leptons with the same electric charge and large transverse momenta of the type e(+/-) e(+/-), e(+/-) mu(+/-), and mu(+/-) mu(+/-) are selected and their invariant mass distribution is examined. No excess of events above the expected level of Standard Model background is found. The results are used to set upper limits on the cross-sections for processes beyond the Standard Model. Limits are placed as a function of the dilepton invariant mass within a fiducial region corresponding to the signal event selection criteria. Exclusion limits are also derived for a specific model of doubly charged Higgs boson production.

Title Search for lepton-flavour-violating H -> μtau decays of the Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 11 Issue 11 Pages 211 - 33pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Beyond Standard Model; Higgs physics; Lepton production
Abstract A direct search for lepton-flavour-violating H -> μtau decays of the recently discovered Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The analysis is performed in the H -> μtau(had) channel, where tau(had) is a hadronically decaying tau-lepton. The search is based on the data sample of proton-proton collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8TeV. No statistically significant excess of data over the predicted background is observed. The observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limit on the branching fraction, Br(H -> μtau), is 1.85% (1.24%).

Title Search for a high-mass Higgs boson decaying to a W boson pair in pp collisions at root s=8TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue 1 Pages 032 - 66pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron scattering; Beyond Standard Model; Higgs physics
Abstract A search for a high-mass Higgs boson H is performed in the H -> WW -> l nu l nu and H -> WW -> l nu qq decay channels using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) collected at root s = 8TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of a high-mass Higgs boson is found. Limits on sigma(H) x BR(H -> WW) as a function of the Higgs boson mass m(H) are determined in three different scenarios: one in which the heavy Higgs boson has a narrow width compared to the experimental resolution, one for a width increasing with the boson mass and modeled by the complex-pole scheme following the same behavior as in the Standard Model, and one for intermediate widths. The upper range of the search is m(H) = 1500 GeV for the narrow-width scenario and m(H) = 1000 GeV for the other two scenarios. The lower edge of the search range is 200{300 GeV and depends on the analysis channel and search scenario. For each signal interpretation, individual and combined limits from the two WW decay channels are presented. At m(H) = 1500 GeV, the highest-mass point tested, sigma(H) x BR(H -> WW) for a narrow-width Higgs boson is constrained to be less than 22 fb and 6.6 fb at 95% CL for the gluon fusion and vector-boson fusion production modes, respectively.

Title Search for new particles in events with one lepton and missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 037 - 43pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract This paper presents a search for new particles in events with one lepton (electron or muon) and missing transverse momentum using 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s = 8 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess beyond Standard Model expectations is observed. A W' with Sequential Standard Model couplings is excluded at the 95% confidence level for masses up to 3.24 TeV. Excited chiral bosons (W*) with equivalent coupling strengths are excluded for masses up to 3.21 TeV. In the framework of an effective field theory limits are also set on the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross-section as well as the mass scale M-* of the unknown mediating interaction for dark matter pair production in association with a leptonically decaying W.

Title Search for boosted diphoton resonances in the 10 to 70 GeV mass range using 138 fb-1 of 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 155 - 42pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract A search for diphoton resonances in the mass range between 10 and 70 GeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is presented. The analysis is based on pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1) at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV recorded from 2015 to 2018. Previous searches for diphoton resonances at the LHC have explored masses down to 65 GeV, finding no evidence of new particles. This search exploits the particular kinematics of events with pairs of closely spaced photons reconstructed in the detector, allowing examination of invariant masses down to 10 GeV. The presented strategy covers a region previously unexplored at hadron colliders because of the experimental challenges of recording low-energy photons and estimating the backgrounds. No significant excess is observed and the reported limits provide the strongest bound on promptly decaying axion-like particles coupling to gluons and photons for masses between 10 and 70 GeV.

Title Search for supersymmetry in events with four or more charged leptons in 139 fb(-1) of root s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 167 - 57pp
Keywords (down) Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Supersymmetry; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract A search for supersymmetry in events with four or more charged leptons (electrons, muons and tau-leptons) is presented. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to 139 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 13 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Four-lepton signal regions with up to two hadronically decaying tau-leptons are designed to target several supersymmetric models, while a general five-lepton signal region targets any new physics phenomena leading to a final state with five charged leptons. Data yields are consistent with Standard Model expectations and results are used to set upper limits on contributions from processes beyond the Standard Model. Exclusion limits are set at the 95% confidence level in simplified models of general gauge-mediated supersymmetry, excluding higgsino masses up to 540 GeV. In R-parity-violating simplified models with decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle to charged leptons, lower limits of 1.6 TeV, 1.2 TeV, and 2.5 TeV are placed on wino, slepton and gluino masses, respectively.
