Title A New Front-End High-Resolution Sampling Board for the New-Generation Electronics of EXOGAM2 and NEDA Detectors Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science Abbreviated Journal IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.
Volume 62 Issue 3 Pages 1056-1062
Keywords (down) Acquisition in HP-Ge detectors; high-speed ADCs; low-noise electronics design
Abstract This paper presents the final design and results of the FADC Mezzanine for the EXOGAM (EXOtic GAMma array spectrometer) and NEDA (Neutron Detector Array) detectors. The measurements performed include those of studying the effective number of bits, the energy resolution using HP-Ge detectors, as well as timing histograms and discrimination performance. Finally, the conclusion shows how a common digitizing device has been integrated in the experimental environment of two very different detectors which combine both low-noise acquisition and fast sampling rates. Not only the integration fulfilled the expected specifications on both systems, but it also showed how a study of synergy between detectors could lead to the reduction of resources and time by applying a common strategy.

Title Search for the γ decay of the narrow near-threshold proton resonance in 11B Type Journal Article
Year 2024 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 855 Issue Pages 138851 - 4pp
Keywords (down) 11B; Near-threshold resonance; gamma-ray decay; Continuum shell model
Abstract The y decay of the elusive narrow, near-threshold proton resonance in 11 B was investigated at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (INFN) in a particle-y coincidence experiment, using the 6 Li( 6 Li,py) fusion-evaporation reaction and the GALILEO-GALTRACE setup. No clear signature was found for a possible E1 decay to the 1/2-1, – 1 , first-excited state of 11 B, predicted by the Shell Model Embedded in the Continuum (SMEC) with a branching of 0.98+167 +167 -69 x 10-3 -3 with respect to the dominant particle-decaying modes. The statistical analysis of the y-ray spectrum provided an average upper limit of 2.37 x 10-3 -3 for this y-ray branching, with a global significance of 5 sigma. On the other hand, by imposing a global confidence level of 3 sigma, a significant excess of counts was observed for Ey y = 9300(20) keV, corresponding to a resonance energy of 11429(20) keV (namely 200(20) keV above the proton separation energy of 11 B) and a y-ray branching of 1.12(35) x10-3. -3 . This result is compatible with the SMEC calculations, potentially supporting the existence of a near-threshold proton resonance in 11 B.

Title Lifetime measurements of excited states in neutron-rich Ar-44,Ar-46 populated via a multinucleon transfer reaction Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 82 Issue 2 Pages 024308 - 7pp
Keywords (down)
Abstract Lifetimes of low-lying excited states of the neutron-rich Ar-44,Ar-46 nuclei, populated via multinucleon transfer reactions, are measured by means of the differential recoil distance Doppler shift method. The extracted electromagnetic transition probabilities are compared with previous intermediate-energy Coulomb-excitation measurements and with large-scale shell-model calculations. The increase in the deduced B( E2; 2(+) -> 0(+)) transition probability from Ar-44 to the closed-shell nucleus Ar-46 contradicts the earlier results of Coulomb-excitation experiments. Shell-model calculations using different effective interactions agree with the new measured values.

Title Response function of the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
Volume 47 Issue 1 Pages 4 - 7pp
Keywords (down)
Abstract The response function of the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA is studied via a Monte Carlo simulation that employs a ray tracing code to determine the trajectories of individual rays through the electromagnetic fields. The calculated response is tested on angular and energy distributions provided by theoretical calculations for the Ca-48 + Ni-64 multinucleon transfer reaction and applied to the corresponding experimental data.

Title Proton-hole states in the N=30 neutron-rich isotope K-49 Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 82 Issue 3 Pages 034319 - 7pp
Keywords (down)
Abstract Excited states in the N = 30 neutron-rich isotope K-49 have been studied using multinucleon transfer reactions with thin targets and the PRISMA-CLARA spectrometer combined with thick-target gamma-coincidence data from Gammasphere. The d(3/2) proton-hole state is located 92 keV above the s(1/2) ground state, and the proton-particle f(7/2) state is suggested at 2104 keV. Three other levels are established as involving the coupling to 2(+) of two neutrons above the N = 28 shell. The measured or estimated lifetimes served to reinforce the interpretation of the observed level structure, which is found to be in satisfactory agreement with shell-model calculations.
