Title Au-197(n,gamma) cross section in the resonance region Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume 81 Issue 4 Pages 044616 - 22pp
  Keywords (up)
Abstract The (n,gamma) cross section of Au-197 has been measured at nTOF in the resolved resonance region, up to 5 keV, with the aim of improving the accuracy in an energy range where it is not yet considered standard. The measurements were performed with two different experimental setup and detection techniques, the total energy method based on C6D6 detectors, and the total absorption calorimetry based on a 4 pi BaF2 array. By comparing the data collected with the two techniques, two accurate sets of neutron-capture yields have been obtained, which could be the basis for a new evaluation leading to an extended cross-section standard. Overall good agreement is found between the n_TOF results and evaluated cross sections, with some significant exceptions for small resonances. A few resonances not included in the existing databases have also been observed.

Title Study of the f(2)(1270) , f(2)'(1525) , f(0)(1370) and f(0)(1710) in the J/psi radiative decays Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A

  Keywords (up)
Abstract In this paper we present an approach to study the radiative decay modes of the J/psi into a photon and one of the tensor mesons f (2)(1270) , f' (2)(1525) , as well as the scalar ones f (0)(1370) and f (0)(1710) . Especially, we compare predictions that emerge from a scheme where the states appear dynamically in the solution of vector meson-vector meson scattering amplitudes to those from a (admittedly naive) quark model. We provide evidence that it might be possible to distinguish amongst the two scenarios, once improved data are available.

Title Search for Charged Lepton Flavor Violation in Narrow Gamma Decays Type Journal Article

Abstract Charged-lepton flavor-violating processes are unobservable in the standard model, but they are predicted to be enhanced in several extensions to the standard model, including supersymmetry and models with leptoquarks or compositeness. We present a search for such processes in a sample of 99 x 10(6)Gamma(2S) decays and 117 x 10(6)Gamma(3S) decays collected with the BABAR detector. We place upper limits on the branching fractions B(Gamma(nS) --> e(+/-)tau(-/+)) and B(Gamma(n(S) --> mu(+/-)tau(-/+)) (n = 2, 3) at the 10(-6) level and use these results to place lower limits of order 1 TeV on the mass scale of charged-lepton flavor-violating effective operators.

Title On a class of n-Leibniz deformations of the simple Filippov algebras Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Journal of Mathematical Physics Abbreviated Journal J. Math. Phys.
  Volume 52 Issue 2 Pages 023521 - 13pp
  Keywords (up)
Abstract We study the problem of infinitesimal deformations of all real, simple, finite-dimensional Filippov (or n-Lie) algebras, considered as a class of n-Leibniz algebras characterized by having an n-bracket skewsymmetric in its n-1 first arguments. We prove that all n > 3 simple finite-dimensional Filippov algebras (FAs) are rigid as n-Leibniz algebras of this class. This rigidity also holds for the Leibniz deformations of the semisimple n = 2 Filippov (i.e., Lie) algebras. The n = 3 simple FAs, however, admit a nontrivial one-parameter infinitesimal 3-Leibniz algebra deformation. We also show that the n >= 3 simple Filippov algebras do not admit nontrivial central extensions as n-Leibniz algebras of the above class.

Title Two-phonon octupole excitation in Gd-146 Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
  Volume 81 Issue 3 Pages 031301 - 4pp
  Keywords (up)
Abstract Based on experimental evidence from the Sm-144(alpha,2n) reaction, the 3484.7- keV 6(+) state in Gd-146 is identified as the highest-spin member of the 3(-) circle times 3(-) two-phonon octupole quartet. A previously unknown gamma line of 1905.8 keV and E3 character feeding the 3(-) octupole state has been observed. These results represent the first observation of a 6(+) -> 3(-) -> 0(+) cascade of two E3 transitions in an even-even nucleus and provide strong support for the interpretation of the 6(+) state as a two-phonon octupole excitation.
