Dai, L. R., & Oset, E. (2018). Helicity amplitudes in B -> D*(nu)over-barl decay. Eur. Phys. J. C, 78(11), 951–11pp.
Abstract: We use a recent formalism of the weak hadronic reactions that maps the transition matrix elements at the quark level into hadronic matrix elements, evaluated with an elaborate angular momentum algebra that allows finally to write the weak matrix elements in terms of easy analytical formulas. In particular they appear explicitly for the different spin third components of the vector mesons involved. We extend the formalism to a general case, with the operator parameter, which suggest to use this magnitude to test different models beyond the standard model. We show that our formalism implies the heavy quark limit and compare our results with calculations that include higher order corrections in heavy quark effective theory. We find very similar results for both approaches in normalized distributions, which are practically identical at the end point of M-inv((nu l)) = m(B) – m(D)*

Vento, V. (2018). Ions, Protons, and Photons as Signatures of Monopoles. Universe, 4(11), 117–12pp.
Abstract: Magnetic monopoles have been a subject of interest since Dirac established the relationship between the existence of monopoles and charge quantization. The Dirac quantization condition bestows the monopole with a huge magnetic charge. The aim of this study was to determine whether this huge magnetic charge allows monopoles to be detected by the scattering of charged ions and protons on matter where they might be bound. We also analyze if this charge favors monopolium (monopole-antimonopole) annihilation into many photons over two photon decays.

Combination of the Searches for Pair-Produced Vectorlike Partners of the Third-Generation Quarks at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. Phys. Rev. Lett., 121(21), 211801–20pp.
Abstract: A combination of the searches for pair-produced vectorlike partners of the top and bottom quarks in various decay channels (T -> Zt/Wb/Ht, B -> Zb/Wt/Hb) is performed using 36.1 fb(-1) of pp collision data at root s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The observed data are found to be in good agreement with the standard model background prediction in all individual searches. Therefore, combined 95% confidence-level upper limits are set on the production cross section for a range of vectorlike quark scenarios, significantly improving upon the reach of the individual searches. Model-independent limits are set assuming the vectorlike quarks decay to standard model particles. A singlet T is excluded for masses below 1.31 TeV and a singlet B is excluded for masses below 1.22 TeV. Assuming a weak isospin (T, B) doublet and vertical bar V-Tb vertical bar << vertical bar V-tB vertical bar, T and B masses below 1.37 TeV are excluded.

Abstract: We study the weak decay Omega(-)(b) -> (Xi(+)(c) K-)pi(-), in view of the narrow Omega(c) states recently measured by the LHCb Collaboration and later confirmed by the Belle Collaboration. The Omega(c) (3050) and Omega(c) (3090) are described as meson-baryon molecular states, using an extension of the local hidden gauge approach in coupled channels. We investigate the Xi D, Xi(c)(K) over bar, and. Xi '(c) (K) over bar invariant mass distributions making predictions that could be confronted with future experiments, providing useful information that could help determine the quantum numbers and nature of these states.

Abstract: It is well known that the source-free Maxwell equations are invariant under electric-magnetic duality rotations, F -> F cos theta +*F sin theta. These transformations are indeed a symmetry of the theory in the Noether sense. The associated constant of motion is the difference in the intensity between self-dual and anti-self-dual components of the electromagnetic field or, equivalently, the difference between the right and left circularly polarized components. This conservation law holds even if the electromagnetic field interacts with an arbitrary classical gravitational background. After reexamining these results, we discuss whether this symmetry is maintained when the electromagnetic field is quantized. The answer is in the affirmative in the absence of gravity but not necessarily otherwise. As a consequence, the net polarization of the quantum electromagnetic field fails to be conserved in curved spacetimes. This is a quantum effect, and it can be understood as the generalization of the fermion chiral anomaly to fields of spin one.

Search for chargino-neutralino production using recursive jigsaw reconstruction in final states with two or three charged leptons in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector. Phys. Rev. D, 98(9), 092012–42pp.
Abstract: A search for electroweak production of supersymmetric particles is performed in two-lepton and three-lepton final states using recursive jigsaw reconstruction, a technique that assigns reconstructed objects to the most probable hemispheres of the decay trees, allowing one to construct tailored kinematic variables to separate the signal and background. The search uses data collected in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment in root s = 13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb(-1). Chargino-neutralino pair production, with decays via W/Z bosons, is studied in final states involving leptons and jets and missing transverse momentum for scenarios with large and intermediate mass splittings between the parent particle and lightest supersymmetric particle, as well as for the scenario where this mass splitting is close to the mass of the Z boson. The latter case is challenging since the vector bosons are produced with kinematic properties that are similar to those in Standard Model processes. Results are found to be compatible with the Standard Model expectations in the signal regions targeting large and intermediate mass splittings, and chargino-neutralino masses up to 600 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level for a massless lightest supersymmetric particle. Excesses of data above the expected background are found in the signal regions targeting low mass splittings, and the largest local excess amounts to 3.0 standard deviations.

Search for resonant W Z production in the fully leptonic final state in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector. Phys. Lett. B, 787, 68–88.
Abstract: A search for a heavy resonance decaying into WZ in the fully leptonic channel (electrons and muons) is performed. It is based on proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb(-1). No significant excess is observed over the Standard Model predictions and limits are set on the production cross section times branching ratio of a heavy vector particle produced either in quark-antiquark fusion or through vector-boson fusion. Constraints are also obtained on the mass and couplings of a singly charged Higgs boson, in the Georgi-Machacek model, produced through vector-boson fusion. (C) 2018 The Author(s). Abstract: A search for CP violation in Lambda(0)(b)-> pK(- )and Lambda(0)(b) -> p pi(-) decays is presented using a sample of pp collisions collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb(-1). The CP-violating asymmetries are measured to be A(CP)(pK- )( = -0.020 +/- 0.013 +/- 0.019 and A(CP)(p pi-) = -0.035 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.020, and their difference A(CP)(pK-) – A(CP)(p pi-) = 0.014 +/- 0.022 +/- 0.010, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise measurements of such asymmetries to date.

Abstract: The cross section for prompt antiproton production in collisions of protons with an energy of 6.5 TeV incident on helium nuclei at rest is measured with the LHCb experiment from a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.5 nb(-1). The target is provided by injecting helium gas into the LHC beam line at the LHCb interaction point. The reported results, covering antiproton momenta between 12 and 110 GeV/c, represent the first direct determination of the antiproton production cross section in p-He collisions, and impact the interpretation of recent results on antiproton cosmic rays from space-borne experiments.
