Title Measurement of B-s(0) and D-s(-) Meson Lifetimes Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 119 Issue 10 Pages 101801 - 10pp
Keywords (up)
Abstract We report on a measurement of the flavor-specific B-s(0) lifetime and of the D-s(-) lifetime using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. Approximately 407 000 B-s(0) -> D-s(()*()) -> D-s(()*()-) mu+v(mu) decays are partially reconstructed in the K+K-pi(-)mu(+) final state. The B-s(0) and D-s(-) natural widths are determined using, as a reference, kinematically similar B-0 -> Dd(*)(-) mu+v(mu) decays reconstructed in the same final state. The resulting differences between widths of B-s(0) and B-0 mesons and of D-s(-) and D- mesons are Delta(Gamma)(B) = -0.0115 +/- 0.0053(stat) +/- 0.0041 (syst) ps(-1) and Delta(Gamma)(D) = 1.0131 +/- 0.0117(stat) +/- 0.0065(syst) ps(-1), respectively. Combined with the known B-0 and D- lifetimes, these yield the flavor-specific B-s(0) lifetime, tau(fs)(Bs0) = 1.547 +/- 0.013 (stat) +/- 0.010 (syst) +/- 0.004(tau(B)) ps and the D-s(-) lifetime, tau(Ds-) = 0.5064 +/- 0.0030(stat) +/- 0.0017(syst) +/- 0.0017(sys) +/- 0.0017(tau(D)). The last uncertainties originate from the limited knowledge of the B-0 and D- lifetimes. The results improve upon current determinations.

Title Lambda(b) -> pi(-)(D-S(-)) Lambda(C)(2595), pi(-)(D-S(-)) Lambda(C)(2625) decays and DN, D*N molecular components Type Journal Article

Abstract From the perspective that Lambda(C)(2595) and Lambda(C)(2625) are dynamically generated resonances from the DN, D*N interaction and coupled channels, we have evaluated the rates for Lambda(b) -> pi(-)Lambda(C)(2595) and Lambda(b) -> pi(-)Lambda(C)(2625) up to a global unknown factor that allows us to calculate the ratio of rates and compare with experiment, where good agreement is found. Similarly, we can also make predictions for the ratio of rates of the, yet unknown, decays of Lambda(b) -> D-s(-)Lambda(C)(2595) and Lambda(b) -> D-s(-)Lambda(c)(2625) and make estimates for their individual branching fractions.

Abstract We investigate the impact of a fourth sterile neutrino at reactor and Spallation Neutron Source neutrino detectors. Specifically, we explore the discovery potential of the TEXONO and COHERENT experiments to subleading sterile neutrino effects through the measurement of the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering event rate. Our dedicated chi(2)-sensitivity analysis employs realistic nuclear structure calculations adequate for high purity sub-keV threshold Germanium detectors.

Title phi meson transparency in nuclei from phi N resonant interactions Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 96 Issue 3 Pages 034618 - 6pp
Keywords (up)
Abstract We investigate the phi meson nuclear transparency using some recent theoretical developments on the phi in medium self-energy. The inclusion of direct resonant phi N scattering and the kaon decay mechanisms leads to a phi width much larger than in most previous theoretical approaches. The model has been confronted with photoproduction data from CLAS and LEPS and the recent proton induced phi production from COSY finding an overall good agreement. The results support the need of a quite large direct phi N-scattering contribution to the self-energy.

Title Performance of the ATLAS trigger system in 2015 Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume 77 Issue 5 Pages 317 - 53pp

Abstract During 2015 the ATLAS experiment recorded 3.8 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The ATLAS trigger system is a crucial component of the experiment, responsible for selecting events of interest at a recording rate of approximately 1 kHz from up to 40 MHz of collisions. This paper presents a short overview of the changes to the trigger and data acquisition systems during the first long shutdown of the LHC and shows the performance of the trigger system and its components based on the 2015 proton-proton collision data.

Title Search for massive long-lived particles decaying semileptonically in the LHCb detector Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication European Physical Journal C Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. C
Volume 77 Issue 4 Pages 224 - 16pp
Keywords (up)
Abstract A search is presented formassive long-lived particles decaying into a muon and two quarks. The dataset consists of proton-proton interactions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1 and 2fb(-1), respectively. The analysis is performed assuming a set of production mechanisms with simple topologies, including the production of a Higgs-like particle decaying into two long-lived particles. The mass range from 20 to 80GeV/c(2) and lifetimes from 5 to 100 ps are explored. Results are also interpreted in terms of neutralino production in different R-Parity violating supersymmetric models, with masses in the 23-198 GeV/c(2) range. No excess above the background expectation is observed and upper limits are set on the production cross-section for various points in the parameter space of theoretical models.

Title Observation of charmless baryonic decays B-(s)(0) -> p(p)over-barh plus h '(-) Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 96 Issue 5 Pages 051103 - 10pp
Keywords (up)
Abstract Decays of B-0 and B-s(0) mesons to the charmless baryonic final states p (p) over barh(+)h'(-), where h and h' each denote a kaon or a pion, are searched for using the LHCb detector. The analysis is based on a sample of proton-proton collision data collected at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). Four-body charmless baryonic B-s(0) decays are observed for the first time. The decays B-s(0) -> p (p) over barK(+) K-, B-s(0) -> p (p) over barK(+/-) pi(inverted perpendicular), B-0 -> p (p) over barK(+) pi(inverted perpendicular) and B-0 -> p (p) over bar pi(+) pi(-) are observed with a significance greater than 5 standard deviations; evidence at 4.1 standard deviations is found for the B-0 -> p (p) over barK(+) K- decay and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction for B-s(0) -> p (p) over bar pi(+) pi(-). Branching fractions in the kinematic region m(p (p) over bar) < 2850 MeV/c(2) are measured relative to the B-0 -> J/psi(-> p<(p)over bar>) K* (892)(0) channel.

Title Evidence for CP violation in B+ -> K*(892)(+)pi(0) from a Dalitz plot analysis of B+ -> K-S(0) pi(+)pi(0) decays Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 96 Issue 7 Pages 072001 - 21pp
Keywords (up)
Abstract We report a Dalitz plot analysis of charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K-S(0)pi(1) pi(0) using the full BABAR data set of 470.9 +/- 2.8 million B (B) over bar events collected at the gamma (4S) resonance. We measure the overall branching fraction and CP asymmetry to be B(B+ -> K-0 pi(+)pi(0)) = (31.8 +/- 1.8 +/- 2.1(-0.0)(+6.0)) x 10(-6) and A(CP)(B+ -> K-0 pi(+)pi(0)) = 0.07 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.03(-0.03)(+0.02), where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the signal model, respectively. This is the first measurement of the branching fraction for B+ -> K-0 pi(+)pi(0). We find first evidence of a CP asymmetry in B+ -> K*(892)(+) pi(0) decays: A(CP)(B+ -> K*(892)(+)pi(0)) = -0.52 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.04(-0.02)(+0.04). The significance of this asymmetry, including systematic and model uncertainties, is 3.4 standard deviations. We also measure the branching fractions and CP asymmetries for three other intermediate decay modes.

Title Search for Invisible Decays of a Dark Photon Produced in e(+)e(-) Collisions at BABAR Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 119 Issue 13 Pages 131804 - 7pp
Keywords (up)
Abstract We search for single-photon events in 53 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-Factory. We look for events with a single high-energy photon and a large missing momentum and energy, consistent with production of a spin-1 particle A' through the process e(+)e(-) -> gamma A'; A' -> invisible. Such particles, referred to as “dark photons,” are motivated by theories applying a U(1) gauge symmetry to dark matter. We find no evidence for such processes and set 90% confidence level upper limits on the coupling strength of A' to e(+)e(-) in the mass range m(A') <= 8 GeV. In particular, our limits exclude the values of the A' coupling suggested by the dark-photon interpretation of the muon (g – 2)(mu) anomaly, as well as a broad range of parameters for the dark-sector models.
