Abstract In a previous work regarding the interaction of two rho(770) resonances, the f(2)(1270) (J(PC) = 2(++)) resonance was obtained dynamically as a two-rho molecule with a very strong binding energy, 135 MeV per rho particle. In the present work we use the rho rho interaction in spin 2 and isospin 0 channel to show that the resonances rho(3)(1690) (3(--)), f(4)(2050) (4(++)), rho(5)(2350) (5(--)), and f(6)(2510) (6(++)) are basically molecules of increasing number of rho(770) particles. We use the fixed center approximation of the Faddeev equations to write the multibody interaction in terms of the two-body scattering amplitudes. We find the masses of the states very close to the experimental values and we get an increasing value of the binding energy per rho as the number of rho mesons is increased.

Abstract We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decays, B+ -> eta(l)l(+)nu and B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)nu undertaken with approximately 464 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with a loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions for B+ -> eta l(+)nu and B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)nu decays in three and 12 bins of q(2), respectively, from which we extract the f (+)(q(2)) form-factor shapes and the total branching fractions B(B+ -> eta l(+)nu)= (0.36 +/- 0.05(stat) +/- 0.04(syst)) x 10(-4) and B(B-0 -> pi(-)l(+)nu) = (1.42 +/- 0.05(stat) +/- 0.07(syst)) x 10(-4). We also measure B(B+ -> eta'l(+)nu) = (0.24 +/- 0.08(stat) +/- 0.03(syst)) x 10(-4). We obtain values for the magnitude of the CKM matrix element |V-ub| using three different QCD calculations.

Abstract We calculate the scattering lengths of Nambu-Goldstone bosons interacting with D mesons in a covariant formulation of chiral perturbation theory, which satisfies heavy-quark spin symmetry and analytical properties of loop amplitudes. We compare our results with previous studies performed using heavy-meson chiral perturbation theory and show that recoil corrections are sizable in most cases.

Abstract Using a sample of 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the sum of seven exclusive final states B -> X-s(d)gamma, where X-s(d) is a strange (nonstrange) hadronic system with a mass of up to 2.0 GeV/c(2). After correcting for unobserved decay modes, we obtain a branching fraction for b -> d gamma of (9.2 +/- 2.0(stat) +/- 2.3(syst) x 10(-6) in this mass range, and a branching fraction for b -> s gamma of (23.0 +/- 0.8(stat) +/- 3.0(syst) x 3.0(syst) x 10(-5) in the same mass range. We find B(b -> d gamma)/B(b -> s gamma) = 0.040 +/- 0.009(stat) +/- 0.010(syst), from which we determine vertical bar Vtd/Vts vertical bar = 0.199 +/- 0.022(stat) +/- 0.024(syst) +/- 0.002(th).

Abstract The cross section for photon production in association with at least one jet containing a b quark has been measured in proton antiproton collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 340 pb(-1) collected with the CDF II detector. Both the differential cross section as a function of photon transverse energy E-T(gamma) and the total cross section are measured and compared to a next-to-leading order prediction for the process.

Title Measurement of the top quark mass and p(p)over-bar -> t(t)over-bar cross section in the all-hadronic mode with the CDF II detector Type Journal Article

Abstract We present a measurement of the top quark mass and of the top-antitop (t (t) over bar) pair production cross section using p (p) over bar data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron Collider at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb(-1). We select events with six or more jets satisfying a number of kinematical requirements imposed by means of a neural-network algorithm. At least one of these jets must originate from a b quark, as identified by the reconstruction of a secondary vertex inside the jet. The mass measurement is based on a likelihood fit incorporating reconstructed mass distributions representative of signal and background, where the absolute jet energy scale ( JES) is measured simultaneously with the top quark mass. The measurement yields a value of 174.8 +/- 2.4(stat + JES)(-1.0)(+1.2)(syst) GeV/c(2), where the uncertainty from the absolute jet energy scale is evaluated together with the statistical uncertainty. The procedure also measures the amount of signal from which we derive a cross section, sigma(t (t$) over bar) = 7.2 +/- 0.5(stat) +/- 1.0(syst) +/- 0.4(lum) pb, for the measured values of top quark mass and JES.

Abstract In this paper, we report on the measurement of the rate of inclusive pi(0) production induced by charged-current neutrino interactions in a C8H8 target at a mean energy of 1.3 GeV in the K2K near detector. Out of a sample of 11 606 charged- current neutrino interactions, we select 479 pi(0) events with two reconstructed photons. We find that the cross section for the inclusive pi(0) production relative to the charged-current quasielastic cross section is (CC)-C-sigma pi(0)/sigma CCQE = 0.426 +/- 0.032 (stat) +/- 0.035 (syst). The energy-dependent cross section ratio is also measured. The results are consistent with previous experiments for exclusive channels on different targets.

Title Electroweak precision observables at one loop in Higgsless models Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 83 Issue (down) 5 Pages 053010 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract We study the viability of generic Higgsless models at low energies when compliance with electroweak precision observables and unitarity constraints up to the TeV scale are imposed. Our analysis shows that consistency with S and T can be achieved at the one-loop level even with a single light vector state, m(V) less than or similar to 500 GeV. However, this scenario turns out to be strongly disfavored when direct resonance searches at the Tevatron are also taken into account. We show that a fully consistent picture can be obtained if an axial state is introduced. Interestingly, mV is still predicted to be light (below 1 TeV) while typical values of m(A) span over the window 1.2m(V) <= m(A) <= 1.4m(V). Our results for the vector channel are rather robust and well within the reach of present-day colliders, while the axial channel is more loosely constrained.

Title Probing the chiral regime of N-f=2 QCD with mixed actions Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 83 Issue (down) 5 Pages 054503 - 17pp
Keywords
Abstract We report on our first experiences with a mixed action setup with overlap valence quarks and nonperturbatively O(a) improved Wilson sea quarks. For the latter we employ CLS N-f = 2 configurations with light sea-quark masses at small lattice spacings. Exact chiral symmetry allows to consider very light valence quarks and explore the matching to (partially-quenched) Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) in a mixed epsilon/p-regime. We compute the topological susceptibility and the low-lying spectrum of the massless Neuberger-Dirac operator for three values of the sea-quark mass, and compare the sea-quark mass dependence to NLO ChPT in the mixed regime. This provides two different determinations of the chiral condensate, as well as information about some NLOlow-energy couplings. Our results allow to test the consistency of the mixed-regime approach to ChPT, as well as of the mixed action framework.

Title Measurement of the inclusive isolated prompt photon cross section in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 83 Issue (down) 5 Pages 052005 - 31pp

Abstract A measurement of the cross section for the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV is presented. The measurement covers the pseudorapidity ranges vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 1: 37 and 1: 52 <= vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 1: 81 in the transverse energy range 15 <= E-T(gamma) < 100 GeV. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 880 nb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Photon candidates are identified by combining information from the calorimeters and from the inner tracker. Residual background in the selected sample is estimated from data based on the observed distribution of the transverse isolation energy in a narrow cone around the photon candidate. The results are compared to predictions from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations.
