Abstract | The Xi(0)(c) baryon is unstable and usually decays into charmless final states by the c -> sud transition. It can, however, also disintegrate into a pi(-) meson and a Lambda(+)(c) baryon via s quark decay or via cs -> dc weak scattering. The interplay between the latter two processes governs the size of the branching fraction B(Xi(0)(c) -> pi(-) Lambda(+)(c)), first measured here to be (0.55 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.18)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second systematic. This result is compatible with the larger of the theoretical predictions that connect models of hyperon decays using partially conserved axial currents and SU(3) symmetry with those involving the heavy-quark expansion and heavy-quark symmetry. In addition, the branching fraction of the normalization channel, B(Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-) pi(+)) = (1.135 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.387)% is measured.

Abstract | Electromagnetic dipole moments of short-lived particles are sensitive to physics within and beyond the Standard Model of particle physics but have not been accessible experimentally to date. To perform such measurements it has been proposed to exploit the spin precession of channeled particles in bent crystals at the LHC. Progress that enables the first measurement of charm baryon dipole moments is reported. In particular, the design and characterization on beam of silicon and germanium bent crystal prototypes, the optimization of the experimental setup, and advanced analysis techniques are discussed. Sensitivity studies show that first measurements of Lambda(+)(c) and Xi(+)(c) baryon dipole moments can he performed in two years of data taking with an experimental setup positioned upstream of the LHCb detector.

Abstract | A structure is observed in the B +/- K -/+ mass spectrum in a sample of proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1. The structure is interpreted as the result of overlapping excited Bs0 states. With high significance, a two-peak hypothesis provides a better description of the data than a single resonance. Under this hypothesis the masses and widths of the two states, assuming they decay directly to B +/- K -/+, are determined to be m1 = 6063.5 +/- 1.2 (stat) +/- 0.8 (syst) MeV Gamma 1 = 26 +/- 4 (stat) +/- 4 (syst) MeV m2 = 6114 +/- 3 (stat) +/- 5 (syst) MeV Gamma 2 = 66 +/- 18 (stat) +/- 21 (syst) MeV Alternative values assuming a decay through B +/- K -/+, with a missing photon from the B +/- -> B +/- gamma decay, which are shifted by approximately 45 MeV, are also determined. The possibility of a single state decaying in both channels is also considered. The ratio of the total production cross-section times branching fraction of the new states relative to the previously observed Bs20 state is determined to be 0.87 +/- 0.15 (stat)+/- 0.19 (syst). |

Abstract | A search for time-dependent violation of the charge-parity symmetry in D-0 -> K+K- and D-0 -> pi(+)pi(-) decays is performed at the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collision data recorded from 2015 to 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1). The D-0 meson is required to originate from a D*(2010)(+) -> D-0 pi(+) decay, such that its flavor at production is identified by the charge of the accompanying pion. The slope of the time-dependent asymmetry of the decay rates of D-0 and (D) over bar (0) mesons into the final states under consideration is measured to be Delta YK+K- = (-2.3 +/- 1.5 +/- 0.3) x 10(-40), Delta Y pi(+)pi(-) = (-4.0 +/- 2.8 +/- 0.4) x 10(-4), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are compatible with the conservation of the charge-parity symmetry at the level of 2 standard deviations and improve the precision by nearly a factor of 2.

Abstract | Coherent production of J/psi mesons is studied in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5 TeV, using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 10 μb(-1). The J/psi mesons are reconstructed in the dimuon final state and are required to have transverse momentum below 1 GeV. The cross-section within the rapidity range of 2.0 < y < 4.5 is measured to be 4.45 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.18 +/- 0.58 mb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the luminosity determination. The cross-section is also measured in J/psi rapidity intervals. The results are compared to predictions from phenomenological models.

Abstract | The first observation of the decays Lambda(b)(0) -> chi(c1)pK(-) and Lambda(0)(b) -> chi(c2)pK(-) is reported using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV The following ratios of branching fractions are measured: B(Lambda(0)(b) -> chi(c1)pK(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-)) = 0.242 +/- 0.014 +/- 0.013 +/- 0.009, B(Lambda(0)(b) -> chi(c2)pK(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-)) = 0.248 +/- 0.020 +/- 0.014 +/- 0.009, B(Lambda(0)(b) -> chi(c2)pK(-))/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> chi(c1)pK(-)) = 1.02 +/- 0.010 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.05, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainty on the branching fractions of the x(c1) -> J/psi gamma and chi(c2) -> J/psi gamma decays. Abstract | Searches are performed for both promptlike and long-lived dark photons, A', produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using A' -> mu(+)mu(-) decays and a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector. The promptlike A' search covers the mass range from near the dimuon threshold up to 70 GeV, while the long-lived A' search is restricted to the low-mass region 214 < mo(A') < 350 MeV. No evidence for a signal is found, and 90% confidence level exclusion limits are placed on the gamma-A' kinetic-mixing strength. The constraints placed on promptlike dark photons are the most stringent to date for the mass range 10.6 < m(A') < 70 GeV, and are comparable to the best existing limits for m(A') < 0.5 GeV. The search for long-lived dark photons is the first to achieve sensitivity using a displaced-vertex signature.

Abstract | Amplitude models are constructed to describe the resonance structure of D-0 -> K-pi(+) pi(+) pi(-) and D-0 -> K+ pi(-)pi(-)pi(+) decays using pp collision data collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 f b(-1). The largest contributions to both decay amplitudes are found to come from axial resonances, with decay modes D-0 -> a(1)(1260)(+) K- and D-0 -> K-1(1270/1400)(+)pi(-) being prominent in D-0 -> K-pi(+) pi(+) pi(-) and D-0 -> K+pi(-)pi(-)pi(+), respectively. Precise measurements of the lineshape parameters and couplings of the a(1)(1260)(+), K-1(1270)(-) and K(1460)(-) resonances are made, and a quasi model-independent study of the K(1460)(-) resonance is performed. The coherence factor of the decays is calculated from the amplitude models to be R-K3 pi = 0.459 +/- 0.010 (stat) +/- 0.012 (syst) +/- 0.020 (model), which is consistent with direct measurements. These models will be useful in future measurements of the unitary-triangle angle gamma and studies of charm mixing and CP violation.

Abstract | The cross-section for inelastic proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is measured with the LHCb detector. The fiducial cross-section for inelastic interactions producing at least one prompt long-lived charged particle with momentum p > 2 GeV/c in the pseudorapidity range 2 < eta < 5 is determined to be sigma(acc) = 62.2 +/- 0.2 +/- 2.5 mb. The first uncertainty is the intrinsic systematic uncertainty of the measurement, the second is due to the uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The statistical uncertainty is negligible. Extrapolation to full phase space yields the total inelastic proton-proton cross-section sigma(inel) = 75.4 +/- 3.0 +/- 4.5 mb, where the first uncertainty is experimental and the second due to the extrapolation. An updated value of the inelastic cross-section at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is also reported.

Abstract | A measurement of the CP asymmetries S-f and S-(f) over bar in B-0 -> D--/+pi(+/-) decays is reported. The decays are reconstructed in a dataset collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1). The CP asymmetries are measured to be S-f = 0.058 +/- 0.020(stat) +/- 0.011(syst) and S-(f) over bar = 0.038 +/- 0.020(stat) +/- 0.007(syst). These results are in agreement with, and more precise than, previous determinations. They are used to constrain angles of the unitarity triangle, vertical bar sin (2 beta + gamma)vertical bar and gamma, to intervals that are consistent with the current world-average values.
