Title Absolute neutrino mass scale and dark matter stability from flavour symmetry Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 10 Issue (down) 10 Pages 080 - 23pp
Keywords Discrete Symmetries; Flavour Symmetries; Neutrino Mixing; Particle Nature of Dark Matter
Abstract We explore a simple but extremely predictive extension of the scotogenic model. We promote the scotogenic symmetry Z(2) to the flavour non-Abelian symmetry sigma(81), which can also automatically protect dark matter stability. In addition, sigma(81) leads to striking predictions in the lepton sector: only Inverted Ordering is realised, the absolute neutrino mass scale is predicted to be m(lightest)approximate to 7.5x10(-4) eV and the Majorana phases are correlated in such a way that vertical bar m(ee)vertical bar approximate to 0.018 eV. The model also leads to a strong correlation between the solar mixing angle theta(12) and delta(CP), which may be falsified by the next generation of neutrino oscillation experiments. The setup is minimal in the sense that no additional symmetries or flavons are required.

Title Updated BBN bounds on the cosmological lepton asymmetry for non-zero theta(13) Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
  Volume 708 Issue (down) 1-2 Pages 1-5
Keywords Neutrinos; Physics of the early Universe; Primordial asymmetries
Abstract We discuss the bounds on the cosmological lepton number from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN), in light of recent evidences for a large value of the neutrino mixing angle theta(13), sin(2) theta(13) greater than or similar to 0.01 at 2 sigma. The largest asymmetries for electron and mu, tau neutrinos compatible with He-4 and H-2 primordial yields are computed versus the neutrino mass hierarchy and mixing angles. The flavour oscillation dynamics is traced till the beginning of BBN and neutrino distributions after decoupling are numerically computed. The latter contains in general, non-thermal distortion due to the onset of flavour oscillations driven by solar squared mass difference in the temperature range where neutrino scatterings become inefficient to enforce thermodynamical equilibrium. Depending on the value of theta(13), this translates into a larger value for the effective number of neutrinos, N-eff. Upper bounds on this parameter are discussed for both neutrino mass hierarchies. Values for N-eff which are large enough to be detectable by the Planck experiment are found only for the (presently disfavoured) range sin(2) theta(13) <= 0.01.

Title Direct test of time reversal symmetry in the entangled neutral kaon system at a phi-factory Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Nuclear Physics B Abbreviated Journal Nucl. Phys. B
  Volume 868 Issue (down) 1 Pages 102-119
Keywords Time reversal violation; Discrete symmetries; Neutral kaons; phi-Factory
Abstract We present a novel method to perform a direct T (time reversal) symmetry test in the neutral kaon system, independent of any CP and/or CPT symmetry tests. This is based on the comparison of suitable transition probabilities, where the required interchange of in <-> out states for a given process is obtained exploiting the Einstein-Podolski-Rosen correlations of neutral kaon pairs produced at a phi-factory. In the time distribution between the two decays, we compare a reference transition like the one defined by the time-ordered decays (l(-), pi pi) with the T-conjugated one defined by (3 pi(0), l(+)). With the use of this and other T-conjugated comparisons, the KLOE-2 experiment at DA Phi NE could make a statistically significant test.

Title Bilinear R-parity violation with flavor symmetry Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue (down) 1 Pages 033 - 16pp
Keywords Beyond Standard Model; Neutrino Physics; Supersymmetric Standard Model; Discrete and Finite Symmetries
Abstract Bilinear R-parity violation (BRPV) provides the simplest intrinsically supersymmetric neutrino mass generation scheme. While neutrino mixing parameters can be probed in high energy accelerators, they are unfortunately not predicted by the theory. Here we propose a model based on the discrete flavor symmetry Lambda(4) with a single R-parity violating parameter, leading to (i) correct Cabbibo mixing given by the Gatto-Sartori-Tonin formula, and a successful unification-like b-tau mass relation, and (ii) a correlation between the lepton mixing angles theta(13) and theta(23) in agreement with recent neutrino oscillation data, as well as a (nearly) massless neutrino, leading to absence of neutrinoless double beta decay.

Title Instanton-mediated baryon number violation in non-universal gauge extended models Type Journal Article
Year 2015 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 01 Issue (down) 1 Pages 134 - 34pp
Keywords Beyond Standard Model; Solitons Monopoles and Instantons; Effective field theories; Global Symmetries
Abstract Instanton solutions of non-abelian Yang-Mills theories generate an effective action that may induce lepton and baryon number violations, namely Delta B = Delta L = nf, being nf the number of families coupled to the gauge group. In this article we study instanton mediated processes in a SU( 2)(l)circle times SU(2)(h)circle times U(1) extension of the Standard Model that breaks universality by singularizing the third family. In the construction of the instanton Green functions we account systematically for the inter-family mixing. This allows us to use the experimental bounds on proton decay in order to constrain the gauge coupling of SU(2)(h). Tau lepton non-leptonic and radiative decays with Delta B = Delta L = 1 are also analysed.
