Title beta decay of (78)Sr Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 84 Issue (up) 5 Pages 054311 - 15pp
Keywords
Abstract The gamma rays and conversion electrons emitted in the beta decay of (78)Sr to levels in (78)Rb have been studied using Ge detectors and a mini-orange spectrometer. A reliable level scheme based on the results of these experiments has been established. The properties of the levels in (78)Rb have been compared with calculations based on deformed Hartree-Fock with Skyrme interactions and pairing correlations in the BCS approximation. This has allowed an interpretation of the nature of the observed sets of levels in the odd-odd nucleus (78)Rb.

Title Nuclear medium effects in nu(nu)-nucleus deep inelastic scattering Type Journal Article

Volume 84 Issue (up) 5 Pages 054610 - 13pp
Keywords
Abstract We study nuclear medium effects in the weak structure functions F(2)(x, Q(2)) and F(3)(x, Q(2)) in the deep inelastic neutrino and antineutrino induced reactions in nuclei. We use a theoretical model for the nuclear spectral functions which incorporates the conventional nuclear effects, such as Fermi motion, binding, and nucleon correlations. We also consider the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. The calculations have been performed using relativistic nuclear spectral functions. Our results are compared with the experimental data of the NuTeV and the CERN Dortmund Heidelberg Saclay Warsaw (CDHSW) collaborations.

Abstract A ((3)He, t) charge-exchange reaction experiment on the double-beta decaying nucleus (136)Xe has been performed at an incident energy of 420 MeV with the objective to measure the Gamow-Teller (GT) strength distribution in (136)Cs. The measurements have been carried out at the dispersion-matched WS beam line and the Grand Raiden spectrometer of the Research Center for Nuclear Physics in Osaka, where an energy resolution of 42 keV was achieved. A new gas cell with thin windows made of polyethylene naphthalate has been employed as a target. The extracted GT strength distribution is confronted with the rather long 2 nu beta beta decay half-life of (136)Xe.

Volume 84 Issue (up) 5 Pages 055802 - 8pp

Abstract The (n,gamma) cross section of (96)Zr has been investigated at the CERN n_TOF spallation neutron source. High-resolution time-of-flight measurements using an enriched ZrO(2) sample allowed us to analyze 15 resonances below 40 keV with improved accuracy. On average, the capture widths were found to be 25% smaller than reported in earlier experiments. If complemented with the contribution by direct radiative capture, the derived Maxwellian averaged cross sections are consistent with activation data at kT = 25 keV. The present results confirm the astrophysical implications for the s-process branching at (95)Zr.

Title Elastic, inelastic, and one-nucleon transfer processes in (48)Ca+(64)Ni Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 84 Issue (up) 5 Pages 9pp
Keywords
Abstract Elastic, inelastic, and one-nucleon transfer channels in the (48)Ca+(64)Ni reaction have been measured at approximate to 6 MeV/nucleon with the PRISMA-CLARA setup, at Legnaro National Laboratory, consisting of the coupling of a large solid angle magnetic spectrometer with a germanium array. By trajectory reconstruction the reaction products have been fully identified in mass, nuclear charge, and kinetic energy, while coincident gamma spectra of binary partners have been constructed after Doppler correction. Absolute differential cross sections have been extracted for the inelastic excitation and one-nucleon transfer, also for specific excited states. The data are in good agreement with semiclassical calculations and distorted wave Born approximation predictions. The work outlines an experimental method which can become valuable to extract structural information from heavy-ion reaction studies.

Abstract Nuclear-medium effects on the weak structure functions F-2(x, Q(2)) and F-3(x, Q(2)) in charged-current neutrino and antineutrino induced deep-inelastic reactions in Pb-208 have been studied. The calculations have been performed in a theoretical model using relativistic nuclear spectral functions which incorporate Fermi motion, binding, and nucleon correlations. We have also included the pion and rho meson cloud contributions calculated from a microscopic model for meson-nucleus self-energies. Using these structure functions, differential scattering cross sections have been obtained and compared with the CERN Hybrid Oscillation Research Apparatus (CHORUS) data. The results for the ratios 2F(i)(Pb)/208F(i)(D), 4F(i)(Pb)/208F(i)(He), 12F(i)(Pb)/208F(i)(C), 16F(i)(Pb)/208F(i)(O), and 56F(i)(Pb)/208F(i)(Fe) (i = 2, 3) have also been obtained and compared with some of the phenomenological fits.

Title Baryon fields with U-L(3) x U-R(3) chiral symmetry. IV. Interactions with chiral (8,1) circle plus (1,8) vector and axial-vector mesons and anomalous magnetic moments Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 85 Issue (up) 5 Pages 055205

Abstract We construct all SUL(3) x SUR(3) chirally invariant anomalous magnetic, i.e., involving a Pauli tensor and one-derivative, interactions of one chiral [(8, 1) circle plus (1, 8)] meson fieldwith chiral [(6, 3) circle plus (3, 6)], [(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3], and [(8, 1) circle plus (1, 8)] baryon fields and their “mirror” images. We find strong chiral selection rules; e. g., there is only one off-diagonal chirally symmetric anomalous magnetic interaction between J = 1/2 fields belonging to the [(6, 3) circle plus (3, 6)] and the [(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3] chiral multiplets. We also study the chiral selection rules for the anomalous magnetic interactions of the [(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3] and the [(8, 1) circle plus (1, 8)] baryon fields. Again, no diagonal and only one off-diagonal chiral SUL(3) x SUR(3) interaction of this type is allowed, that turns out also to conserve the U-A(1) symmetry. We calculate the F/D ratios for the baryons' anomalous magnetic moments predicted by these interactions in the SU(3) symmetry limit and find that only the [(6, 3) circle plus (3, 6)]-[(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3] one reproduces F/D = 1/3, in close proximity to the value extracted from experiment.

Title Strategy to find the two Lambda (1405) states from lattice QCD simulations Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 86 Issue (up) 5 Pages 055201 - 13pp
Keywords
Abstract Theoretical studies within the chiral unitary approach, and recent experiments, have provided evidence of the existence of two isoscalar states in the region of the Lambda(1405). In this paper we use the same chiral approach to generate energy levels in a finite box. In a second step, assuming that these energies correspond to lattice QCD results, we devise the best strategy of analysis to obtain the two states in the infinite-volume case, with sufficient precision to distinguish them. We find out that by using energy levels obtained with asymmetric boxes and/or with a moving frame, with reasonable errors in the energies, one has a successful scheme to get the two Lambda(1405) poles.

Title High-spin structure in K-40 Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 86 Issue (up) 5 Pages 054320 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract High-spin states of K-40 have been populated in the fusion-evaporation reaction C-12(Si-30,np)K-40 and studied by means of gamma-ray spectroscopy techniques using one triple-cluster detector of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Several states with excitation energy up to 8 MeV and spin up to 10(-) have been discovered. These states are discussed in terms of J = 3 and T = 0 neutron-proton hole pairs. Shell-model calculations in a large model space have shown good agreement with the experimental data for most of the energy levels. The evolution of the structure of this nucleus is here studied as a function of excitation energy and angular momentum.

Title Lambda(1405) poles obtained from pi(0)Sigma(0) photoproduction data Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 87 Issue (up) 5 Pages 055201 - 8pp
Keywords
Abstract We present a strategy to extract the position of the two Lambda(1405) poles from experimental photoproduction data measured recently at different energies in the gamma p -> K+pi(0)Sigma(0) reaction at Jefferson Laboratory. By means of a chiral dynamics motivated potential with free parameters, we solve the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the coupled channels (K) over barN and pi Sigma in isospin I = 0 and parametrize the amplitude for the photonuclear reaction in terms of a linear combination of the pi Sigma -> pi Sigma and (K) over barN -> pi Sigma scattering amplitudes in I = 0, with a different linear combination for each energy. Good fits to the data are obtained with some sets of parameters, by means of which one can also predict the cross section for the K- p -> pi(0)Sigma(0) reaction. These later results help us decide among the possible solutions. The result is that the different solutions lead to two poles similar to those found in the chiral unitary approach. With the best result we find the two Lambda(1405) poles at 1385 – 68i MeV and 1419 – 22i MeV.
