Abstract |
We examine the relationship between three approaches (Hadamard, DeWitt-Schwinger, and adiabatic) to the renormalization of expectation values of field operators acting on a charged quantum scalar field. First, we demonstrate that the DeWitt-Schwinger representation of the Feynman Green's function is a particular case of the Hadamard representation. Next, we restrict attention to a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe with time-dependent, purely electric, background electromagnetic field, considering two-, three-, and four-dimensional space-times. Working to the order required for the renormalization of the stress-energy tensor, we find the adiabatic and DeWitt-Schwinger expansions of the Green's function when the space-time points are spatially separated. In two and four dimensions, the resulting DeWitt-Schwinger and adiabatic expansions are identical. In three dimensions, the DeWittSchwinger expansion contains terms of adiabatic order 4 that are not necessary for the renormalization of the stress-energy tensor and hence absent in the adiabatic expansion. The equivalence of the DeWittSchwinger and adiabatic approaches to renormalization in the scenario considered is thereby demonstrated in even dimensions. In odd dimensions the situation is less clear and further investigation is required in order to determine whether adiabatic renormalization is a locally covariant renormalization prescription. |

Abstract |
Dual scatterers preserve the helicity of an incident field, whereas antidual scatterers flip it completely. In this setting of linear electromagnetic scattering theory, we provide a completely general proof on the nonexistence of passive antidual scatterers. However, we show that scatterers fulfilling the refractive index matching condition flip the helicity of the fields very efficiently without being in contradiction with the law of energy conservation. Moreover, we find that this condition is paired with the impedance matching condition in several contexts of electromagnetism and, in particular, within Fresnel's and Mie's scattering problems. Finally, we show that indexmatched media induce a resonant helicity mixing on the propagating electromagnetic waves. We reach this conclusion by identifying that the refractive index matching condition leads to the phenomenon of avoided crossing. |

Abstract |
The beta decays from both the ground state and a long-lived isomer of In-133 were studied at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS). With a hybrid detection system sensitive to beta, gamma, and neutron spectroscopy, the comparative partial half-lives (log ft) have been measured for all their dominant beta-decay channels for the first time, including a low-energy Gamow-Teller transition and several first-forbidden (FF) transitions. Uniquely for such a heavy neutron-rich nucleus, their beta decays selectively populate only a few isolated neutron unbound states in Sn-133. Precise energy and branching-ratio measurements of those resonances allow us to benchmark beta-decay theories at an unprecedented level in this region of the nuclear chart. The results show good agreement with the newly developed large-scale shell model (LSSM) calculations. The experimental findings establish an archetype for the beta decay of neutron-rich nuclei southeast of Sn-132 and will serve as a guide for future theoretical development aiming to describe accurately the key beta decays in the rapid-neutron capture (r-) process. |

Abstract |
Measurements of the suppression and correlations of dijets is performed using 3 μb(-1) of Xe+Xe data at root sNN = 5.44 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Dijets with jets reconstructed using the R = 0.4 anti-kt algorithm are measured differentially in jet p(T) over the range of 32 to 398 GeV and the centrality of the collisions. Significant dijet momentum imbalance is found in the most central Xe+Xe collisions, which decreases in more peripheral collisions. Results from the measurement of per-pair normalized and absolutely normalized dijet p(T) balance are compared with previous Pb+Pb measurements at root sNN = 5.02 TeV. The differences between the dijet suppression in Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb are further quantified by the ratio of pair nuclear-modification factors. The results are found to be consistent with those measured in Pb+Pb data when compared in classes of the same event activity and when taking into account the difference between the center-of-mass energies of the initial parton scattering process in Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb collisions. These results should provide input for a better understanding of the role of energy density, system size, path length, and fluctuations in the parton energy loss. |

Abstract |
In this work, we analyze the thermodynamic properties of non-interacting particles under influence of the gravitational field of a traversable wormhole. In particular, we investigate how the thermodynamic quantities are affected by the Ellis wormhole geometry, considering three different regions to our study: asymptotically far, close to the throat, and at the throat. The thermodynamic quantities turn out to depend strongly on parameter that controls the wormhole throat radius. By varying it, there exist an expressive modification in the thermodynamic state quantities, exhibiting both usual matter and dark energy-like behaviors. Finally, the interactions are regarded to the energy density and it seems to indicate that it “cures” the dark energy-like features. |
