Abstract |
This paper presents measurements of charged-hadron spectra obtained in pp, p+Pb, and Pb+Pb collisions at root s or root s(NN) = 5.02TeV, and in Xe+Xe collisions at root s(NN) = 5.44TeV. The data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC have total integrated luminosities of 25 pb(-1), 28 nb(-1), 0.50 nb(-1), and 3 μb(-1), respectively. The nuclear modification factors RpPb and R-AA are obtained by comparing the spectra in heavy-ion and pp collisions in a wide range of charged-particle transverse momenta and pseudorapidity. The nuclear modification factor RpPb shows a moderate enhancement above unity with a maximum at p(T) approximate to 3 GeV; the enhancement is stronger in the Pb-going direction. The nuclear modification factors in both Pb+Pb and Xe+Xe collisions feature a significant, centrality-dependent suppression. They show a similar distinct p(T)-dependence with a local maximum at p(T) approximate to 2 GeV and a local minimum at p(T) approximate to 7 GeV. This dependence is more distinguishable in more central collisions. No significant eta |-dependence is found. A comprehensive comparison with several theoretical predictions is also provided. They typically describe RAA better in central collisions and in the pT range from about 10 to 100 GeV. |

Abstract |
The production cross-sections of Υ mesons, namely Υ(1S), Υ(2S) and Υ(3S), in pp collisions at root s = 5TeV are measured with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.13 +/- 0.18 pb(-1) collected by the LHCb detector. The Υ mesons are reconstructed in the decay mode Υ -> mu(+)mu(-). Double differential cross-sections times branching fractions, as functions of the transverse momentum p(T) and the rapidity y of the Υ mesons, are measured in the range pT < 20 GeV/ c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The results integrated over these pT and y ranges are sigma((sic)(1S)) x B((sic)(1S) -> mu(+) mu(-)) = 2101 +/- 33 +/- 83 pb, sigma((sic)(2S)) x B((sic)(2S) -> mu(+) mu(-)) = 526 +/- 20 +/- 21 pb, sigma((sic)(3S)) x B((sic)(3S) -> mu(+) mu(-)) = 242 +/- 16 +/- 10 pb, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ratios of cross-sections between measurements of two different (sic) states and between measurements at different centre-of-mass energies are determined. The nuclear modification factor of (sic)(1S) at root s = 5TeV is updated as well using the directly measured cross-section results from this analysis. |

Abstract |
The first observation of the Lambda(0)(b) -> D-s(-) p decay is presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 13TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1). Using the Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+pi-)(c) decay as the normalisation mode, the branching fraction of the Lambda(0)(b) -> D-s(-) p decay is measured to be B (Lambda(0)(b) -> D-s(-) p) = (12.6 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.3 +/- 1.2) x 10(-6), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to uncertainties in the branching fractions of the Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+pi-)(c), D-s(-) -> K-K+pi(-) and Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+) decays. |

Abstract |
We construct an extension of the Standard Model with a scalar leptoquark Q iota similar to (3,1, – 13) and the discrete flavor symmetry Gf _ D17 x Z17 to explain anomalies observed in charged-current semileptonic B meson decays and in the muon anomalous magnetic moment, together with the charged fermion masses and quark mixing. The symmetry Zdiag 17 , contained in Gf, remains preserved by the leptoquark couplings, at leading order, and efficiently suppresses couplings of the leptoquark to the first generation of quarks and/or electrons, thus avoiding many stringent experimental bounds. The strongest constraints on the parameter space are imposed by the radiative charged lepton flavor violating decays a -mu y and μ-ey. A detailed analytical and numerical study demonstrates the feasibility to simultaneously explain the data on the lepton flavor universality ratios R(D) and R(D*) and the muon anomalous magnetic moment, while passing the experimental bounds from all other considered flavor observables. |

Abstract |
We describe the formalism to analyze the mathematical ambiguities arising in partial-wave analysis of two spinless mesons produced with a linearly polarized photon beam. We show that partial waves are uniquely defined when all accessible observables are considered, for a wave set which includes S and D waves. The inclusion of higher partial waves does not affect our results, and we conclude that there are no mathematical ambiguities in partial-wave analysis of two mesons produced with a linearly polarized photon beam. We present Monte Carlo simulations to illustrate our results. |
