Abstract |
We suggest a common origin for dark matter, neutrino mass and family symmetry within the orbifold theory proposed in [Phys. Lett. B 801, 135195 (2020); Phys. Rev. D 101, 116012 (2020)]. Flavor physics is described by an A(4) family symmetry that results naturally from compactification. Weakly interacting massive particle dark matter emerges from the first Kaluza-Klein excitation of the same scalar that drives family symmetry breaking and neutrino masses through the inverse seesaw mechanism. In addition to the “golden” quark-lepton mass relation and predictions for 0 nu beta beta decay, the model provides a good global description of all flavor observables. |

Abstract |
The decay E-b -> A0bx-- is observed using a proton-proton collision data sample collected at center-of-ffiffimass energy p s 1/4 13 TeV with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb-1. This process is mediated by the s -> uu over bar d quark-level transition, where the b quark in the E-b baryon is a spectator in the decay. Averaging the results obtained using the two A0b decay modes, A0b -> A thorn c x-- and A0b -> A thorn c x--x- thorn x--, the relative production ratio is measured to be ofE-b =fA0b thorn BoE-b -> A0bx-- thorn 1/4 o7.3 ⠂ 0.8 ⠂ 0.6 thorn x 10-4. Abstract |
The nucleon isovector electromagnetic form factors are calculated up to next-to-next-to-leading order by combining relativistic chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) of pion, nucleon, and Delta o1232 thorn with dispersion theory. We specifically address the light-quark mass dependence of the form factors, achieving a good description of recent lattice QCD results over a range of Q2 less than or similar to 0.6 GeV2 and M pi less than or similar to 350 MeV. For the Dirac form factor, the combination of ChPT and dispersion theory outperforms the pure dispersive and pure ChPT descriptions. For the Pauli form factor, the combined calculation leads to results comparable to the purely dispersive ones. The anomalous magnetic moment and the Dirac and Pauli radii are extracted. |

Abstract |
We consider electroweak gauge boson corrections to the masses of pseudoscalar mesons to next to leading order in alpha s and 1/NC. The pion mass shift induced by the Z boson is shown to be m pi +/- – m pi 0 = -0.00201(12) MeV. While being small compared to the electromagnetic mass shift, the prediction lies about a factor of similar to 4 above the precision of the current experimental measurement and a factor O(10) below the precision of current lattice calculations. This motivates future implementations of these electroweak gauge boson effects on the lattice. Finally, we consider beyond standard model contributions to the pion mass difference. |

Abstract |
A search for a new pseudoscalar a-boson produced in events with a top-quark pair, where the a-boson decays into a pair of muons, is performed using root s=13 TeV pp collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). The search targets the final state where only one top quark decays to an electron or muon, resulting in a signature with three leptons e μμand μμmu. No significant excess of events above the Standard Model expectation is observed and upper limits are set on two signal models: pp -> tta and pp -> tt with t -> H(perpendicular to)b, H-perpendicular to -> W(perpendicular to)a, where a ->mu mu, in the mass ranges 15 GeV<m(a)<72 GeV and 120 GeV <= m(H +/-)<= 160 GeV. |

Abstract |
We consider the local physics of an open quantum system embedded in an expanding three-dimensional space x, evolving in cosmological time t, weakly coupled to a massless quantum field. We derive the corresponding Markovian master equation for the system's nonunitary evolution and show that, for a de Sitter space with Hubble parameter h 1/4 const, the background fields act as a physical heat bath with temperature TdS 1/4 h/2z. The energy density of this bath obeys the Stefan-Boltzmann law pdS proportional to h4. We comment on how these results clarify the thermodynamics of de Sitter space and support previous arguments for its instability in the infrared. The cosmological implications are considered in an accompanying Letter. |

Abstract |
We consider a metric-affine extension to the gravitational sector of the Standard Model extension for the Lorentz-violating coefficients u and s(mu nu). The general results, which are applied to a specific model called metric-affine bumblebee gravity, are obtained. A Schwarzschild-like solution, incorporating effects of the Lorentz symmetry breaking through the coefficient X = xi b(2), is found. Furthermore, a complete study of the geodesic trajectories of particles is accomplished in this background, emphasizing the departure from general relativity. We also compute the advance of Mercury's perihelion and the deflection of light within the context of the weak-field approximation, and we verify that there exist two new contributions ascribed to the Lorentz symmetry breaking. As a phenomenological application, we compare our theoretical results with observational data in order to estimate the coefficient X. |

Abstract |
Models that produce axionlike particles (ALPs) after cosmological inflation due to spontaneous U(1) symmetry breaking also produce cosmic-string networks. Those axionic strings lose energy through gravitational-wave emission during the whole cosmological history, generating a stochastic background of gravitational waves that spans many decades in frequency. We can therefore constrain the axion decay constant and axion mass from limits on the gravitational-wave spectrum and compatibility with dark matter abundance as well as dark radiation. We derive such limits from analyzing the most recent NANOGrav data from pulsar timing arrays (PTAs). The limits are similar to the Neff bounds on dark radiation for ALP masses ma less than or similar to 10-22 eV. On the other hand, for heavy ALPs with ma greater than or similar to 0.1 GeV and NDW not equal 1, new regions of parameter space can be probed by PTA data due to the dominant domain-wall contribution to the gravitational-wave background. |

Abstract |
Model-independent mass limits assess the robustness of current cosmological measurements of the neutrino mass scale. Consistency between high-multipole and low-multiple cosmic microwave background observations measuring such scale further valuates the constraining power of present data. We derive here up-to-date limits on neutrino masses and abundances exploiting either the Data Release 4 of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) or the South Pole Telescope polarization measurements from SPT-3G, envisaging different nonminimal background cosmologies and marginalizing over them. By combining these high-l observations with supernova Ia, baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), redshift space distortions (RSD) and a prior on the reionization optical depth fromWMAP data, we find that the marginalized bounds are competitive with those from Planck analyses. We obtain Sigma m(nu) < 0.139 eV and N-eff = 2.82 +/- 0.25 in a dark energy quintessence scenario, both at 95% CL. These limits translate into Sigma m(nu) < 0.20 eV and N-eff = 2.79(-0.28)(+0.30) after marginalizing over a plethora of well-motivated fiducial models. Our findings reassess both the strength and the reliability of cosmological neutrino mass constraints. |

Abstract |
It is well known that entanglement is widespread in quantum field theory, in the following sense: every Reeh-Schlieder state contains entanglement between any two spatially separated regions. This applies, in particular, to the vacuum of a noninteracting scalar theory in Minkowski spacetime. Discussions on entanglement in field theory have focused mainly on subsystems containing infinitely many degrees of freedom-typically, the field modes that are supported within a compact region of space. In this article, we study entanglement in subsystems made of finitely many field degrees of freedom, in a free scalar theory in D + 1-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The focus on finitely many modes of the field is motivated by the finite capabilities of real experiments. We find that entanglement between finite-dimensional subsystems is not common at all, and that one needs to carefully select the support of modes for entanglement to show up. We also find that entanglement is increasingly sparser in higher dimensions. We conclude that entanglement in Minkowski spacetime is significantly less ubiquitous than normally thought. |
