Abstract: We report a study of the suppressed B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-) and favored B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) decays, where the neutral D meson is detected through its decays to the K--/+pi(+/-) and CP -even K+K- and pi(+)pi(-) final states. The measurement is carried out using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1). We observe the first significant signals in the CP – even final states of the D meson for both the suppressed B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-) and favored B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) modes, as well as in the doubly Cabibbo suppressed D -> K+pi(-) final state of the B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) decay. Evidence for the suppressed decay B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-), with D -> K+pi(-), is also presented. From the observed yields in the B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-), B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) and their charge conjugate decay modes, the most probable value of the weak phase gamma corresponds to gamma = (74(-19)(+20))degrees. This is one of the most precise single-measurement determinations of gamma to date.

Abstract: We present measurements of Collins asymmetries in the inclusive process e(+)e(-) -> h(1)h(2)X, h(1)h(2) = KK, K pi, pi pi, at the center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV, using a data sample of 468 fb(-1) collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC National Accelerator Center. Considering hadrons in opposite thrust hemispheres of hadronic events, we observe clear azimuthal asymmetries in the ratio of unlike sign to like sign, and unlike sign to all charged h(1)h(2) pairs, which increase with hadron energies. The K pi asymmetries are similar to those measured for the pi pi pairs, whereas those measured for high-energy KK pairs are, in general, larger.

Abstract: The decay B-0 -> psi(2S)K+pi(-) is analyzed using 3 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected with the LHCb detector. A model-independent description of the psi(2S)pi mass spectrum is obtained, using as input the K pi mass spectrum and angular distribution derived directly from data, without requiring a theoretical description of resonance shapes or their interference. The hypothesis that the psi(2S)pi mass spectrum can be described in terms of K pi reflections alone is rejected with more than 8 sigma significance. This provides confirmation, in a model-independent way, of the need for an additional resonant component in the mass region of the Z(4430)(-) exotic state.

Abstract: We study the processes gamma gamma -> (KSK +/-)-K-0 pi(-/+) and gamma gamma -> K+K-pi(0) using a data sample of 519 fb(-1) recorded with the BABAR detector operating at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at center-of-mass energies at and near the Upsilon(nS) (n = 2, 3, 4) resonances. We observe eta(c) decays to both final states and perform Dalitz plot analyses using a model-independent partial wave analysis technique. This allows a model-independent measurement of the mass-dependence of the I = 1/2 K pi S-wave amplitude and phase. A comparison between the present measurement and those from previous experiments indicates similar behavior for the phase up to a mass of 1.5 GeV/c(2). In contrast, the amplitudes show very marked differences. The data require the presence of a new a(0)(1950) resonance with parameters m = 1931 +/- 14 +/- 22 MeV/c(2) and Gamma = 271 +/- 22 +/- 29 MeV.

Abstract: We present a search for seven lepton-flavor-violating neutral charm meson decays of the type D-0 -> X(0)e(+/-)mu(-/+), where X-0 represents a pi(0), K-S(0), (K) over bar*(0), rho(0), phi, omega, or eta meson. The analysis is based on 468 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data collected at or close to the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signals are observed, and we establish 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (5.0-22.5) x 10(-7). The limits are between 1 and 2 orders of magnitude more stringent than previous measurements.

Abstract: A measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B-s(0) -> (KSKS0)-K-0 is performed using proton- proton – collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment between 2011 and 2016. The branching fraction is determined to be B(B-s(0) -> (KSKS0)-K-0) = [8.3 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 0.9(syst) +/- 0.8(norm) +/- 0.3(f(s)/f(d))] x 10(-6), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third and fourth are due to uncertainties on the branching fraction of the normalization mode B-0 -> phi K(S)(0 )and the ratio of hadronization fractions f(s)/f(d). This is the most precise measurement of this branching fraction to date. Furthermore, a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B-s(0) -> (KSKS0)-K-0 is performed relative to that of the B-s(0) -> (KSKS0)-K-0 channel, and is found to be B(B-s(0) -> (KSKS0)-K-0)/B(B-s(0) -> (KSKS0)-K-0) = [7.5 +/- 3.1(stat) 0.5(syst) +/- 0.3(f(s)/f(d))1 x 10(-2).

Abstract: A search for CP violation in the Lambda(0)(b) -> p pi(-) pi(+) pi(-) decay is performed using LHCb data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.6 fb(-1) collected in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The analysis uses both triple product asymmetries and the unbinned energy test method. The highest significances of CP asymmetry are 2.9 standard deviations from triple product asymmetries and 3.0 standard deviations for the energy test method. Once the global p-value is considered, all results are consistent with no CP violation. Parity violation is observed at a significance of 5.5 standard deviations for the triple product asymmetry method and 5.3 standard deviations for the energy test method. The reported deviations are given in regions of phase space.

Abstract: The first observation of the decay B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-) is reported using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011, 2012 and 2016. The measurement is performed in the full kinematically allowed range of the decay outside of the D*(-) region. The ratio of the branching fraction relative to that of the control channel B-0 -> D-0<(DK+)-K-0 pi(-)+ is measured to be R = (14.2 +/- 1.1 +/- 1.0)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The absolute branching fraction of B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(- )decays is thus determined to be B(B-0 -> D-0(D) over bar K-0(+)pi(-)) = (3.50 +/- 0.27 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.30) x 10(-4), where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the control channel. This decay mode is expected to provide insights to spectroscopy and the charm-loop contributions in rare semileptonic decays.

Abstract: The Xi(0)(c) baryon is unstable and usually decays into charmless final states by the c -> sud transition. It can, however, also disintegrate into a pi(-) meson and a Lambda(+)(c) baryon via s quark decay or via cs -> dc weak scattering. The interplay between the latter two processes governs the size of the branching fraction B(Xi(0)(c) -> pi(-) Lambda(+)(c)), first measured here to be (0.55 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.18)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and second systematic. This result is compatible with the larger of the theoretical predictions that connect models of hyperon decays using partially conserved axial currents and SU(3) symmetry with those involving the heavy-quark expansion and heavy-quark symmetry. In addition, the branching fraction of the normalization channel, B(Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-) pi(+)) = (1.135 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.387)% is measured.

Abstract: An analysis of the direct soft photon production rate as a function of the parent jet characteristics is presented, based on hadronic events collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP1. The dependences of the photon rates on the jet kinematic characteristics (momentum, mass, etc.) and on the jet charged, neutral and total hadron multiplicities are reported. Up to a scale factor of about four, which characterizes the overall value of the soft photon excess, a similarity of the observed soft photon behavior to that of the inner hadronic bremsstrahlung predictions is found for the momentum, mass, and jet charged multiplicity dependences. However for the dependence of the soft photon rate on the jet neutral and total hadron multiplicities a prominent difference is found for the observed soft photon signal as compared to the expected bremsstrahlung from final state hadrons. The observed linear increase of the soft photon production rate with the jet total hadron multiplicity and its strong dependence on the jet neutral multiplicity suggest that the rate is proportional to the number of quark pairs produced in the fragmentation process, with the neutral pairs being more effectively radiating than the charged ones.
