Title Combined analysis of neutrino decoherence at reactor experiments Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 06 Issue 6 Pages 042 - 12pp
Keywords Neutrino Physics; Beyond Standard Model
Abstract Reactor experiments are well suited to probe the possible loss of coherence of neutrino oscillations due to wave-packets separation. We combine data from the short-baseline experiments Daya Bay and the Reactor Experiment for Neutrino Oscillation (RENO) and from the long baseline reactor experiment KamLAND to obtain the best current limit on the reactor antineutrino wave-packet width, sigma > 2.1 x 10(-4) nm at 90% CL. We also find that the determination of standard oscillation parameters is robust, i.e., it is mostly insensitive to the presence of hypothetical decoherence effects once one combines the results of the different reactor neutrino experiments.

Title Searches for 25 rare and forbidden decays of D+ and Ds+ mesons Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 06 Issue 6 Pages 044 - 24pp
Keywords Charm physics; Flavour physics; Flavour Changing Neutral Currents; Hadron-Hadron scattering (experiments); Rare decay
Abstract A search is performed for rare and forbidden charm decays of the form D+-> hl+l -/+, where h(+/-) is a pion or kaon and l((')+/-) is an electron or muon. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in 2016. No evidence is observed for the 25 decay modes that are investigated and 90 % confidence level limits on the branching fractions are set between 1.4 x 10(-8) and 6.4 x 10(-6). In most cases, these results represent an improvement on existing limits by one to two orders of magnitude.

Title SNEWS 2.0: a next-generation supernova early warning system for multi-messenger astronomy Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication New Journal of Physics Abbreviated Journal New J. Phys.
Volume 23 Issue 3 Pages 031201 - 34pp
Keywords supernova neutrinos; multi-messenger astronomy; particle astrophysics
Abstract The next core-collapse supernova in the Milky Way or its satellites will represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity to obtain detailed information about the explosion of a star and provide significant scientific insight for a variety of fields because of the extreme conditions found within. Supernovae in our galaxy are not only rare on a human timescale but also happen at unscheduled times, so it is crucial to be ready and use all available instruments to capture all possible information from the event. The first indication of a potential stellar explosion will be the arrival of a bright burst of neutrinos. Its observation by multiple detectors worldwide can provide an early warning for the subsequent electromagnetic fireworks, as well as signal to other detectors with significant backgrounds so they can store their recent data. The supernova early warning system (SNEWS) has been operating as a simple coincidence between neutrino experiments in automated mode since 2005. In the current era of multi-messenger astronomy there are new opportunities for SNEWS to optimize sensitivity to science from the next galactic supernova beyond the simple early alert. This document is the product of a workshop in June 2019 towards design of SNEWS 2.0, an upgraded SNEWS with enhanced capabilities exploiting the unique advantages of prompt neutrino detection to maximize the science gained from such a valuable event.

Title Calibration and response function of a compact silicon-detector set-up for charged-particle spectroscopy using GEANT4 Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
Volume 57 Issue 2 Pages 49 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract A complete methodology for detector calibration and energy-loss correction in charged-particle spectroscopy is presented. This has been applied to a compact set-up of four silicon detectors used for beta-delayed particle spectroscopy. The characterisation of the set-up was carried out using GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulations and standard alpha-calibration sources. The response function of the system was in this way accurately determined to be used for spectral unfolding.

Title The large N-c limit of QCD on the lattice Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
Volume 57 Issue 2 Pages 52 - 19pp
Keywords
Abstract We review recent progress in the study of the large N-c limit of gauge theories from lattice simulations. The focus is not only the planar limit but also the size of O(N-c(-1)) corrections for values of N-c greater than or similar to 3. Some concrete examples of the topics we include are tests of large- Nc factorization, the topological susceptibility, the glueball, meson and baryon spectra, the chiral dependence of masses and decay constants, and weak matrix elements related to the Delta I = 1/2 rule in kaon decays.
