Abstract: We compute the primordial trispectrum for curvature perturbations produced during cosmic inflation in models with standard kinetic terms, when the initial quantum state is not necessarily the vacuum state. The presence of initial perturbations enhances the trispectrum amplitude for configuration in which one of the momenta, say k(3), is much smaller than the others, k(3) << k(1,2,4). For those squeezed con figurations the trispectrum acquires the so-called local form, with a scale dependent amplitude that can get values of order epsilon(k(1)/k(3))(2). This amplitude could be larger than the prediction of the so-called Maldacena consistency relation by a factor as large as 10(6), and could reach the sensitivity of forthcoming observations, even for single-field inflationary models.

Abstract: The knowledge of the beta-decay properties of nuclei contributes decisively to our understanding of nuclear phenomena: the beta-delayed neutron emission of neutron rich nuclei plays an important role in the nucleosynthesis r-process and constitutes a probe for nuclear structure of very neutron rich nuclei providing information about the high energy part of the full beta strength (S-beta) function. In addition, beta-delayed neutrons are essential for the control and safety of nuclear reactors. In order to determine the neutron energy spectra and emission probabilities from neutron precursors a MOdular Neutron time-of-flight SpectromeTER (MONSTER) has been proposed for the DESPEC experiment at the future FAIR facility. The design of MONSTER and status of its construction are reported in this work.

Abstract: A measurement of the cross section for the production of an isolated photon in association with jets in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV is presented. Photons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range vertical bar eta(gamma)vertical bar < 1.37 and with a transverse energy E-T(gamma) > 25 GeV. Jets are reconstructed in the rapidity range vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 4.4 and with a transverse momentum p(T)(jet) > 20 GeV. The differential cross section d sigma/dE(T)(gamma) is measured, as a function of the photon transverse energy, for three different rapidity ranges of the leading-p(T) jet: vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 1.2, 1.2 <= vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 2.8 and 2.8 <= vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 4.4. For each rapidity configuration the same-sign (eta(gamma)y(jet) >= 0) and opposite-sign (eta(gamma) y(jet) < 0) cases are studied separately. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 37 pb(-1), collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations are found to be in fair agreement with the data, except for E-T(gamma) <= 45 GeV, where the theoretical predictions overestimate the measured cross sections.

Abstract: The European Grid Initiative (EGI) provides a sustainable pan-European Grid computing infrastructure for e-Science based on a network of regional and national Grids. The middleware driving this production infrastructure is constantly adapted to the changing needs of the EGI Community by deploying new features and phasing out other features and components that are no longer needed. Unlike previous e-Infrastructure projects, EGI does not develop its own middleware solution, but instead sources the required components from Technology Providers and integrates them in the Unified Middleware Distribution (UMD). In order to guarantee a high quality and reliable operation of the infrastructure, all UMD software must undergo a release process that covers the definition of the functional, performance and quality requirements, the verification of those requirements and testing in production environments.

Abstract: We extend previous results in spherically symmetric gravitational systems coupled with a massless scalar field within the loop quantum gravity framework. As a starting point, we take the Schwarzschild spacetime. The results presented here rely on the uniform discretization method. We are able to minimize the associated discrete master constraint using a variational method. The trial state for the vacuum consists of a direct product of a Fock vacuum for the matter part and a Gaussian centered around the classical Schwarzschild solution. This paper follows the line of research presented by Gambini et al (2009 Class. Quantum Grav. 26 215011 (arXiv: 0906.1774v1)) and a comparison between their result and the one given in this work is made.
