Abstract: In medicine, computed tomographic images are reconstructed from a large number of measurements of X-ray transmission through the patient (projection data). The mathematical model used to describe a computed tomography device is a large system of linear equations of the form AX = B. In this paper we propose the QR decomposition as a direct method to solve the linear system. QR decomposition can be a large computational procedure. However, once it has been calculated for a specific system, matrices Q and R are stored and used for any acquired projection on that system. Implementation of the QR decomposition in order to take more advantage of the sparsity of the system matrix is discussed.

Abstract: As a result of a new improved fit to old bubble chamber data of the dominant axial C-5(A) nucleon-to-delta form factor, and due to the relevance of this form factor for neutrino induced coherent pion production, we reevaluate our model predictions in [Phys. Rev. D 79, 013002 ( 2009)] for different observables of the latter reaction. Central values for the total cross sections increase by 20%-30%, while differential cross sections do not change their shape appreciably. Furthermore, we also compute the uncertainties on total, differential, and flux-averaged cross sections induced by the errors in the determination of C-5(A). Our new results turn out to be compatible within about 1 sigma with the former ones. Finally, we stress the existing tension between the recent experimental determination of the sigma(CCcoh pi(+))/sigma(NCcoh pi(0)) ratio by the SciBooNE Collaboration and the theoretical predictions.

Abstract: We use a theoretical model of the gamma d --> K+K- np reaction adapted to the experiment done at LEPS where a peak was observed and associated with the Theta(+)(1540) pentaquark. The study shows that the method used in the experiment to assign momenta to the undetected proton and neutron, together with the chosen cuts, necessarily creates an artificial broad peak in the assumed K(+)n invariant mass in the region of the claimed Theta(+)(1540), such that the remaining strength seen for the experimental peak is compatible with a fluctuation of 2 sigma significance.

Abstract: After inserting the heavy quark mass dependence into QCD partonic evolution equations, we determine the mean charged hadron multiplicity and second multiplicity correlators of jets produced in high energy collisions. We thereby extend the so-called dead cone effect to the phenomenology of multiparticle production in QCD jets and find that the average multiplicity of heavy-quark initiated jets decreases significantly as compared to the massless case, even taking into account the weak decay products of the leading primary quark. We emphasize the relevance of our study as a complementary check of b-tagging techniques at hadron colliders like the Tevatron and the LHC.

Abstract: The alignment in flavour space of the Yukawa matrices of a general two-Higgs-doublet model results in the absence of tree-level flavour-changing neutral currents. In addition to the usual fermion masses and mixings, the aligned Yukawa structure only contains three complex parameters zeta(f), which are potential new sources of CP violation [1]. For particular values of these three parameters all known specific implementations of the model based on discrete Z(2) symmetries are recovered. One of the most distinctive features of the two-Higgs-doublet model is the presence of a charged scalar H-+/-. In this work, we discuss its main phenomenological consequences in flavour-changing processes at low energies and derive the corresponding constraints on the parameters of the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model.
