Abstract Relic neutrinos play an important role in the evolution of the Universe, modifying some of the cosmological observables. We summarize the main aspects of cosmological neutrinos and describe how the precision of present cosmological data can be used to learn about neutrino properties. In particular, we discuss how cosmology provides information on the absolute scale of neutrino masses, complementary to beta decay and neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments. We explain why the combination of Planck temperature data with measurements of the baryon acoustic oscillation angular scale provides a strong bound on the sum of neutrino masses, 0.23 eV at the 95% confidence level, while the lensing potential spectrum and the cluster mass function measured by Planck are compatible with larger values. We also review the constraints from current data on other neutrino properties. Finally, we describe the very good perspectives from future cosmological measurements, which are expected to be sensitive to neutrino masses close to the minimum values guaranteed by flavour oscillations.

Title Bs,d(0) -> l(+)l(-) decays in the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
Volume 06 Issue 6 Pages 022 - 39pp
Keywords Higgs Physics; Rare Decays; Beyond Standard Model; B-Physics
Abstract The rare decays B-s,d(0) -> l(+)l(-) are analyzed within the general framework of the aligned two-Higgs doublet model. We present a complete one-loop calculation of the relevant short-distance Wilson coefficients, giving a detailed technical summary of our results and comparing them with previous calculations performed in particular limits or approximations. We investigate the impact of various model parameters on the branching ratios and study the phenomenological constraints imposed by present data.

Title The Zee-Babu model revisited in the light of new data Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Nuclear Physics B Abbreviated Journal Nucl. Phys. B
Volume 885 Issue Pages 542-570
Keywords
Abstract We update previous analyses of the Zee-Babu model in the light of new data, e.g., the mixing angle On, the rare decay μ-> e gamma and the LHC results. We also analyze the possibility of accommodating the deviations in Gamma (H -> gamma gamma) hinted by the LHC experiments, and the stability of the scalar potential. We find that neutrino oscillation data and low energy constraints are still compatible with masses of the extra charged scalars accessible to LHC. Moreover, if any of them is discovered, the model can be falsified by combining the information on the singly and doubly charged scalar decay modes with neutrino data. Conversely, if the neutrino spectrum is found to be inverted and the CP phase delta is quite different from pi, the masses of the charged scalars will be well outside the LHC reach.

Title Neutrino masses, grand unification, and baryon number violation Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 90 Issue 1 Pages 016011 - 11pp
Keywords
Abstract If grand unification is real, searches for baryon-number violation should be included on the list of observables that may reveal information regarding the origin of neutrino masses. Making use of an effective-operator approach and assuming that nature is SU(5) invariant at very short distances, we estimate the consequences of different scenarios that lead to light Majorana neutrinos for low-energy phenomena that violate baryon number minus lepton number (B – L) by two (or more) units, including neutron-antineutron oscillations and B – L violating nucleon decays. We find that, among all possible effective theories of lepton-number violation that lead to nonzero neutrino masses, only a subset is, broadly speaking, consistent with grand unification.

Title Little Rip, Lambda CDM and singular dark energy cosmology from Born-Infeld-f(R) gravity Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Physics Letters B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Lett. B
Volume 734 Issue Pages 36-40
Keywords
Abstract We study late-time cosmic accelerating dynamics from Born-Infeld-f(R) gravity in a simplified conformal approach. We find that a variety of cosmic effects such as Little Rip, Lambda CDM universe and dark energy cosmology with finite time future singularities may occur. Unlike the convenient Born-Infeld gravity where in the absence of matter only de Sitter expansion may emerge, apparently any FRW cosmology may be reconstructed from this conformal version of the Born-Infeld-f(R) theory. Despite the fact that the explicit form of f(R) is fixed by the conformal ansatz, the relation between the two metrics in this approach may be changed so as to bring out any desired FRW cosmology.
