Abstract .In a fusion-evaporation reaction, nuclei are produced by evaporating light-charged particles and neutrons from the compound nucleus. Typically, a nucleus of interest is produced as a result of a part of the total cross-section and, in order to guarantee a good channel discrimination, a particle detector, like the EUCLIDES 4 Si-ball array, is necessary. EUCLIDES has been quoted in more than a hundred publications resulting from many experiments performed in combination with the EUROBALL and GASP -ray spectrometers. The present paper reports on the upgraded version of EUCLIDES, that is presently coupled to the new GALILEO -ray spectrometer, installed at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, INFN. The design, characteristics and performance of the EUCLIDES array are presented and discussed.

Title Systematics of Gamow-Teller beta decay “Southeast” of Sn-100 Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
  Volume 46 Issue 1 Pages (down) 45-53

Abstract The energy centroids and integrated strengths of Gamow-Teller transitions in the beta(+) and electron-capture decay are analyzed for nuclei whose proton number Z and neutron number N are restricted to 44 <= Z <= 50 and 50 <= N <= 58. The analysis is based on data measured both with high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry and total gamma-ray absorption techniques. The dependence of the considered quantities on the relative neutron excess are established after taking into account the effects due to the Coulomb interaction and mean-field level occupancies. An extrapolation of this dependence to the lightest known tin isotopes is used to estimate the decay characteristics of Sn-100 and Sn-101. The values extrapolated for the half-lives of Sn-100 and Sn-101 agree with experimental data. Using the extrapolated values together with shell model predictions, the Q values for the electron-capture decay of Sn-100 is evaluated. The quenching factor for beta(+) and the electron-capture decay of the nuclei under consideration here is established to be 0.56(2) with a possible weak dependence on N – Z.

Abstract The s-wave interaction of (D) over bar Lambda(c), (D) over bar Sigma(c),(D) over bar*Lambda(c), (D) over bar*Sigma(c) and (D) over bar Sigma(c)*, (D) over bar*Sigma(c)*, is studied within a unitary coupled channels scheme with the extended local hidden gauge approach. In addition to the Weinberg-Tomozawa term, several additional diagrams via the pion exchange are also taken into account as box potentials. Furthermore, in order to implement the full coupled channels calculation, some of the box potentials which mix the vector-baryon and pseudoscalar-baryon sectors are extended to construct the effective transition potentials. As a result, we have observed six possible states in several angular momenta. Four of them correspond to two pairs of admixture states, two of (D) over bar Sigma(c) – (D) over bar*Sigma(c) with J – 1/2, and two of (D) over bar Sigma(c)* – (D) over bar*Sigma(c)* with J = 3/2. Moreover, we find a (D) over bar*Sigma(c) resonance which couples to the (D) over bar Lambda(c) channel and one spin degenerated bound state of (D) over bar*Sigma(c)* with J = 1/2, 5/2.

Title Kaon-induced Lambda(1405) production on a deuteron target at DAFNE Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A

Abstract The K-- induced production of.(1405) in the K(-)d -> pi Sigma n reaction is investigated having in mind the conditions of the DAFNE facility at Frascati where kaons are obtained from the decay of slow-moving phi mesons. We find that the K(-)d -> Lambda(1405)n process favors the production of Lambda(1405) initiated by the K(-)p channel, which gives largest weight to the higher mass Lambda(1405) appearing at 1420MeV in chiral theories. We find that the fastest kaons from the decay of the phi are well suited to see this resonance, particularly if one selects forward going neutrons in the center of mass, which reduce the contribution of single scattering and make the double scattering dominate where the signal of the resonance appears clearer.

Abstract This paper summarises a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study for precision resonance energy scan measurements. Apart from the proof of principle for natural width and line shape measurements of very narrow resonances with PANDA, the achievable sensitivities are quantified for the concrete example of the charmonium-like X(3872) state discussed to be exotic, and for a larger parameter space of various assumed signal cross-sections, input widths and luminosity combinations. PANDA is the only experiment that will be able to perform precision resonance energy scans of such narrow states with quantum numbers of spin and parities that differ from JPC=1--.

Title Analysis of the e(+)e(-) -> J/psi D(D)over-bar reaction close to the threshold concerning claims of a chi(c0)(2P) state Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A

  Keywords
Abstract We analyze the D (D) over bar mass distribution from a recent Belle experiment on the e(+)e(-) -> J/.D (D) over bar reaction, and show that the mass distribution divided by phase sp(c)e does not have a clear peak above the D (D) over bar threshold that justifies the experimental claim of chi(c0)(2P) state from those data. Then we use a unitary formalismwith coupled channels D+ D-, D-0 (D) over bar (0), D-s(D) over bar (s), and eta eta, with some of the interactions taken from a theoretical model, and use the data to fix other parameters. We then show that, given the poor quality of the data, we can get different fits leading to very different D (D) over bar amplitudes, some of them supporting a D (D) over bar bound state and others not. The main conclusion is that the claim for the chi(c0)(2P) state, already included in the PDG, is premature, but refined data can provide very valuable information on the D (D) over bar scattering amplitude. As side effects, we warn about the use of a Breit-Wigner amplitude parameterization close to threshold, and show that the D-s(D) over bar (s) channel plays an important role in this reaction.

Abstract We study the B+J/K+ reaction, and show that it is driven by the presence of two resonances, the X(3940) and X(3930), that are of molecular nature and couple most strongly to D*D*, but also to J/. Because of that, in the J/ mass distribution we find a peak related to the excitation of the resonances and a cusp with large strength at the D*D* threshold.

Abstract Results on the deep sub-threshold production of the short-lived hadronic resonance K*(892)(0) are reported for collisions of Ar + KCl at 1.76 A GeV beam energy, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. The K*(892)(0) production probability per central collision of P-K*0 = (4.4 +/- 1.1 +/- 0.5) x 10(-4) and the K*(892)(0)/K-0 ratio of P-K*0/P-K0 = (1.9 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.3) x 10(-2) are determined at the lowest energy so far (i.e. deep below the threshold for the corresponding production in nucleon-nucleon collisions, root s(NN)-root s(thr) = -340MeV). The K*(0)/K-0 ratio is compared with results of other experiments and with the predictions of the UrQMD transport approach and of the statistical hadronization model. The experimental K*(0) yield and the K-*0/K-0 ratio are overestimated by the transport model by factors of about five and two, respectively. In a chemically equilibrated medium the ratio corresponds to a temperature of the thermalized system being systematically lower than the value determined by the yields of the stable and long-lived hadrons produced in Ar + KCl collisions. From the present measurement, we conclude that sub-threshold K* production either cannot be considered to proceed in a system being in thermal equilibrium or these short-lived resonances appear undersaturated, for example as a result of the rescattering of the decay particles in the ambient hadronic medium.

Title On the ambiguities of sign determination of the S-matrix from energy levels in a finite box Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication European Physical Journal A Abbreviated Journal Eur. Phys. J. A
  Volume 49 Issue 3 Pages (down) 32 - 4pp

Abstract In a recent paper the authors make a study on the determination of the S-matrix elements for scattering of particles in the infinite volume from the energy levels in a finite box for the case of multiple channels. The study is done with a toy model in 1+1 dimension and the authors find that there is some ambiguity in the sign of nondiagonal matrix elements, casting doubts on whether the needed observables in the infinite volume can be obtained from the energy levels of the box. In this paper I present an easy derivation, confirming the ambiguity of the sign and argue that this, however, does not put restrictions in the determination of observables.

Abstract The measurement of the capture cross-section of fissile elements, of utmost importance for the design of innovative nuclear reactors and the management of nuclear waste, faces particular difficulties related to the.-ray background generated in the competing fission reactions. At the CERN neutron time-of-flight facility nTOF we have combined the Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC) capture detector with a set of three U-235 loaded MicroMegas (MGAS) fission detectors for measuring simultaneously two reactions: capture and fission. The results presented here include the determination of the three detection efficiencies involved in the process: epsilon(TAC)(n, f), epsilon(TAC)(n, gamma) and epsilon(MGAS)(n, f). In the test measurement we have succeeded in measuring simultaneously with a high total efficiency the U-235 capture and fission cross-sections, disentangling accurately the two types of reactions. The work presented here proves that accurate capture cross-section measurements of fissile isotopes are feasible at nTOF.
