Abstract |
We have analyzed pion-nucleon scattering using the manifestly relativistic covariant framework of infrared regularization up to O(q(3)) in the chiral expansion, where q is a generic small momentum. We describe the low-energy phase shifts with a similar quality as previously achieved with heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory, root s less than or similar to 1.14 GeV. New values are provided for the O(q(2)) and O(q(3)) low-energy constants, which are compared with previous determinations. This is also the case for the scattering lengths and volumes. Finally, we have unitarized the previous amplitudes and as a result the energy range where data are reproduced increases significantly. |

Abstract |
We construct all SUL(3) x SUR(3) chirally invariant anomalous magnetic, i.e., involving a Pauli tensor and one-derivative, interactions of one chiral [(8, 1) circle plus (1, 8)] meson fieldwith chiral [(6, 3) circle plus (3, 6)], [(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3], and [(8, 1) circle plus (1, 8)] baryon fields and their “mirror” images. We find strong chiral selection rules; e. g., there is only one off-diagonal chirally symmetric anomalous magnetic interaction between J = 1/2 fields belonging to the [(6, 3) circle plus (3, 6)] and the [(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3] chiral multiplets. We also study the chiral selection rules for the anomalous magnetic interactions of the [(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3] and the [(8, 1) circle plus (1, 8)] baryon fields. Again, no diagonal and only one off-diagonal chiral SUL(3) x SUR(3) interaction of this type is allowed, that turns out also to conserve the U-A(1) symmetry. We calculate the F/D ratios for the baryons' anomalous magnetic moments predicted by these interactions in the SU(3) symmetry limit and find that only the [(6, 3) circle plus (3, 6)]-[(3, (3) over bar) circle plus ((3) over bar), 3] one reproduces F/D = 1/3, in close proximity to the value extracted from experiment. |

Abstract |
From a Faddeev calculation for the pi-(Delta rho)(N5/2)-(1675) system we show the plausible existence of three dynamically generated I (J(P)) = 3/2(5/2(+)) baryon states below 2.3 GeV, whereas only two resonances, Delta(5/2)+ (1905)( ) and Delta(5/2)+(2000)(**), are cataloged in the Particle Data Book Review. Our results give theoretical support to data analyses extracting two distinctive resonances, Lambda(5/2)+(similar to 1740) and Lambda(5/2)+(similar to 2200), from which the mass of Delta(5/2)+ (2000) is estimated. We propose that these two resonances should be cataloged instead of Delta(5/2)+(2000). This proposal gets further support from the possible assignment of the other baryon states found in the approach in the I = 1/2, 3/2 with J(P) = 1/2(+), 3/2(+), 5/(2)+ sectors to known baryonic resonances. In particular, Delta(1/2)+(1750)(*) is naturally interpreted as a pi N-1/2-(1650) bound state. |

Abstract |
Using an interaction extracted from the local hidden-gauge Lagrangians, which brings together vector and pseudoscalar mesons, and the coupled channels rho N (s wave), pi N (d wave), pi Delta (s wave), and pi Delta (d wave), we look in the region ofv root s = 1400-1850 MeV and find two resonances dynamically generated by the interaction of these channels, which are naturally associated to N*(1520)(3/2(-)) and N*(1700)(3/2(-)). N*(1700)(3/2(-)) appears neatly as a pole in the complex plane. The free parameters of the theory are chosen to fit the pi N (d-wave) data. Both the real and imaginary parts of the pi N amplitude vanish in our approach in the vicinity of this resonance, which is similar to what happens in experimental determinations and which makes this signal very weak in this channel. This feature could explain why this resonance does not show up in some experimental analyses, but the situation is analogous to that of the f(0)(980) resonance, the second scalar meson after sigma[f(0)(500)] in the pi pi(d-wave) amplitude. The unitary coupled channel approach followed here, in connectionwith the experimental data, leads automatically to a pole in the 1700-MeV region and makes this second 3/2-resonance unavoidable. |

Abstract |
We study the Lambda(c) decay process to pi(+) and the meson-baryon final state for the analysis of Lambda resonances. Considering the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawamatrix, color suppression, diquark correlation, and the kinematical condition, we show that the final meson-baryon state should be in a pure I = 0 combination, when the meson-baryon invariantmass is small. Because the I = 1 contamination usually makes it difficult to analyze Lambda resonances directly from experiments, the Lambda(c) decay is an ideal process to study Lambda resonances. Calculating the final-state interaction by chiral unitary approaches, we find that the pi Sigma invariant mass distributions have the same peak structure in the all charge combination of the pi Sigma states related to the higher pole of the two poles of the Lambda(1405). Furthermore, we obtain a clear Lambda(1670) peak structure in the (K) over bar N and eta Lambda spectra. |
