Abstract: The production of two prompt J/psi mesons, each with transverse momenta p(T) > 8.5 GeV and rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.1, is studied using a sample of proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.4 fb(-1) collected in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The differential cross-section, assuming unpolarised J/psi production, is measured as a function of the transverse momentum of the lower-p(T) J/psi meson, di-J/psi p(T) and mass, the difference in rapidity between the two J/psi mesons, and the azimuthal angle between the two J/psi mesons. The fraction of prompt pair events due to double parton scattering is determined by studying kinematic correlations between the two J/psi mesons. The total and double parton scattering cross-sections are compared with predictions. The effective cross-section of double parton scattering is measured to be sigma(eff) = 6.3 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 1.0(syst) mb.

Abstract: The simplest extension of the SM to account for the observed neutrino masses and mixings is the addition of at least two singlet fermions (or right-handed neutrinos). If their masses lie at or below the GeV scale, such new fermions would be produced in meson decays. Similarly, provided they are sufficiently heavy, their decay channels may involve mesons in the final state. Although the couplings between mesons and heavy neutrinos have been computed previously, significant discrepancies can be found in the literature. The aim of this paper is to clarify such discrepancies and provide consistent expressions for all relevant effective operators involving mesons with masses up to 2 GeV. Moreover, the effective Lagrangians obtained for both the Dirac and Majorana scenarios are made publicly available as FeynRules models so that fully differential event distributions can be easily simulated. As an application of our setup, we numerically compute the expected sensitivity of the DUNE near detector to these heavy neutral leptons.

Abstract: The inclusive Higgs boson production cross-section is measured in the di-photon and the ZZ -> 4l decay channels using 31.4 and 29.0 fb-1 of pp collision data respectively, collected with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of <mml:msqrt>s</mml:msqrt>=13.6 TeV. To reduce the model dependence, the measurement in each channel is restricted to a particle-level phase space that closely matches the channel's detector-level kinematic selection, and it is corrected for detector effects. These measured fiducial cross-sections are sigma fid,gamma gamma= 76-13+14</mml:msubsup> fb, and sigma fid,4l= 2.80<mml:mspace width=“0.166667em”></mml:mspace>+/- <mml:mspace width=“0.166667em”></mml:mspace>0.74 fb, in agreement with the corresponding Standard Model predictions of 67.6 +/- 3.7 fb and 3.67 +/- 0.19 fb. Assuming Standard Model acceptances and branching fractions for the two channels, the fiducial measurements are extrapolated to the full phase space yielding total cross-sections of sigma (pp -> H)=67-11+12 pb and 46 +/- 12 pb at 13.6 TeV from the di-photon and ZZ -> 4l measurements respectively. The two measurements are combined into a total cross-section measurement of sigma (pp -> H)=58.2 +/- 8.7 pb, to be compared with the Standard Model prediction of sigma <mml:msub>(pp -> H)SM=59.9 +/- 2.6 pb.

Abstract: A search for the production of single-top-quarks in association with missing energy is performed in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the large hadron collider using data collected in 2012, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). In this search, the W boson from the top quark is required to decay into an electron or a muon and a neutrino. No deviation from the standard model prediction is observed, and upper limits are set on the production cross-section for resonant and non-resonant production of an invisible exotic state in association with a right-handed top quark. In the case of resonant production, for a spin-0 resonance with amass of 500 GeV, an effective coupling strength above 0.15 is excluded at 95% confidence level for the top quark and an invisible spin-1/2 state with mass between 0 and 100 GeV. In the case of non-resonant production, an effective coupling strength above 0.2 is excluded at 95% confidence level for the top quark and an invisible spin-1 state with mass between 0 and 657 GeV.

Abstract: We perform a systematic analysis of the J/psi -> gamma pi(0)pi(0) and -> gamma(KSKS0)-K-0 partial waves measured by BESIII. We use a large set of amplitude parametrizations to reduce the model bias. We determine the physical properties of seven scalar and tensor resonances in the 1-2.5 GeV mass range. These include the well known f(0)(1500) and f(0)(1710), that are considered to be the primary glueball candidates. The hierarchy of resonance couplings determined from this analysis favors the latter as the one with the largest glueball component.
