Abstract |
The first measurement of heavy-flavor production by the LHCb experiment in its fixed-target mode is presented. The production of J/psi and D-0 mesons is studied with beams of protons of different energies colliding with gaseous targets of helium and argon with nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of root s(NN) = 86.6 and 110.4 GeV, respectively. The J/psi and D-0 production cross sections in pHe collisions in the rapidity range [2, 4.6] are found to be sigma(J/psi) = 652 +/- 33(stat) +/- 42(syst) nb/nucleon and sigma(D0) = 80.8 +/- 2.4(syst) +/- 6.3(syst) μb/nucleon, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No evidence for a substantial intrinsic charm content of the nucleon is observed in the large Bjorken-x region. |

Abstract |
The ratio of the B-s(0) and B+ fragmentation fractions f(s) and f(u) is studied with B-s(0) -> J/psi phi and B+ -> J/psi K+ decays using data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at 7, 8, and 13 TeV center-of-mass energies. The analysis is performed in bins of B-meson momentum, longitudinal momentum, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity, and rapidity. The fragmentation-fraction ratio f(s)/f(u) is observed to depend on the B-meson transverse momentum with a significance of 6.0 sigma. This dependency is driven by the 13 TeV sample (8.7 sigma), while the results for the other collision energies are not significant when considered separately. Furthermore, the results show a 4.8 sigma evidence for an increase of f(s)/f(u) as a function of collision energy. |

Abstract |
Using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, the B-0 -> D- D+ K+ pi(-) decay is studied. A new excited D-s(+) meson is observed decaying into the D+K+pi(-) final state with large statistical significance. The pole mass and width, and the spin parity of the new state are measured with an amplitude analysis to be m(R) = 2591 +/- 6 +/- 7 MeV, Gamma(R) = 89 +/- 16 +/- 12 MeV, and J(P) = 0(-), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Fit fractions for all components in the amplitude analysis are also reported. The new resonance, denoted as D-s0(2590)(+), is a strong candidate to be the D-s(2(1)S(0))(+) state, the radial excitation of the pseudoscalar ground-state D-s(+) meson. |

Abstract |
A measurement is reported of the ratio of branching fractions R(J/psi) = B(B-c(+) -> J/psi tau(+)nu(tau))/B(B-c(+) -> J/psi mu(+)nu(mu)), where the tau(+) lepton is identified in the decay mode tthorn tau(+) -> mu(+)nu(mu)(nu) over bar (tau). This analysis uses a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded with the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. A signal is found for the decay B-c(+) -> J/psi tau(+)nu(tau) at a significance of 3 standard deviations corrected for systematic uncertainty, and the ratio of the branching fractions is measured to be R(J/psi) = 0.71 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.18(syst). This result lies within 2 standard deviations above the range of central values currently predicted by the standard model. |

Abstract |
The decay Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(- )is observed for the first time using a data sample of proton-proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5 fb I, collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The branching fraction of the decay is measured, using the Lambda(0)(b) -> J/psi pK(-) decay as a normalization mode, to be B(Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-)) = (1.06 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06(-019)(+0.22)) x 10(-4), where the quoted uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to external inputs, respectively. A study of the eta(c)(1S)p mass spectrum is performed to search for the P-c(4312)(+) pentaquark state. No evidence is B(Lambda(0)(b) -> P-c(4312)K-+(-))xB(P-c(4312)(+)-> eta(c)(1S)p)/B(Lambda(0)(b) -> eta(c) (1S)pK(-)) < 0.24( ) observed and an upper limit of < 0.24 is obtained at the 95% confidence level. |
