Abstract |
A measurement of four branching-fraction ratios for three-body decays of B mesons involving two open-charm hadrons in the final state is presented. Run 1 and Run 2 pp collision data are used, recorded by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies 7, 8, and 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). The measured branching-fraction ratios are<disp-formula id=“Equa”><mml:mtable displaystyle=“true”><mml:mtr><mml:mtd><mml:mfrac>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B+-> D+D-K+</mml:mfenced>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B+-> D<overbar></mml:mover>0D0K+</mml:mfenced></mml:mfrac>=0.5170.0150.013 +/- 0.011,</mml:mtd></mml:mtr><mml:mtr><mml:mtd><mml:mfrac>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B+-> D-D+K+</mml:mfenced>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B+-> D<overbar></mml:mover>0D0K+</mml:mfenced></mml:mfrac>=0.577 +/- 0.016 +/- 0.013 +/- 0.013,</mml:mtd></mml:mtr><mml:mtr><mml:mtd><mml:mtable><mml:mtr><mml:mtd><mml:mfrac>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B0 -> D-D0K+</mml:mfenced>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B0 -> D-D0K+</mml:mfenced></mml:mfrac>=1.754 +/- 0.028 +/- 0.016 +/- 0.035,</mml:mtd></mml:mtr><mml:mtr><mml:mtd><mml:mfrac>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B+-> D+D-K+</mml:mfenced>B<mml:mfenced close=“)” open=“(”>B+-> D-D+K+</mml:mfenced></mml:mfrac>=0.907 +/- 0.033<mml:mo>+/- 0.014<mml:mo>,</mml:mtd></mml:mtr></mml:mtable></mml:mtd></mml:mtr></mml:mtable><graphic position=“anchor” xmlns:xlink=“http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink” xlink:href=“13130202014428ArticleEqua.gif”></graphic></disp-formula><p id=“Par2”>where the first of the uncertainties is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainties on the D-meson branching fractions. Abstract |
The ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is used to search for high-mass resonances decaying to an electron-positron pair or a muon-antimuon pair. The search is sensitive to heavy neutral Z' gauge bosons, Randall-Sundrum gravitons, Z* bosons, techni-mesons, Z/gamma bosons, and bosons predicted by Torsion models. Results are presented based on an analysis of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb(-1) in the e(+)e(-) channel and 5.0 fb(-1) in the mu(+)mu(-) channel. A Z' boson with Standard Model-like couplings is excluded at 95% confidence level for masses below 2.22 TeV. A Randall-Sundrum graviton with coupling k root M-P1 = 0.1 is excluded at 95% confidence level for masses below 2.16 Tev. Limits on the other models are also presented, including Technicolor and Minimal Z' Models. |

Abstract |
In this work we show that modifying the thermal history of the Universe by including an early period of matter domination can lead to the formation of astronomical objects. However, the survival of these objects can only be possible if the dominating matter decays to a daughter particle which is not only almost degenerate with the parent particle but also has an open annihilation channel. This requirement translates in an upper bound for the coupling of such a channel and makes the early structure formation viable. |

Abstract |
A generic search for anomalous production of events with at least three charged leptons is presented. The data sample consists of pp collisions at TeV collected in 2012 by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). Events are required to have at least three selected lepton candidates, at least two of which must be electrons or muons, while the third may be a hadronically decaying tau. Selected events are categorized based on their lepton flavour content and signal regions are constructed using several kinematic variables of interest. No significant deviations from Standard Model predictions are observed. Model-independent upper limits on contributions from beyond the Standard Model phenomena are provided for each signal region, along with prescription to re-interpret the limits for any model. Constraints are also placed on models predicting doubly charged Higgs bosons and excited leptons. For doubly charged Higgs bosons decaying to e tau or μtau, lower limits on the mass are set at 400 GeV at 95% confidence level. For excited leptons, constraints are provided as functions of both the mass of the excited state and the compositeness scale I >, with the strongest mass constraints arising in regions where the mass equals I >. In such scenarios, lower mass limits are set at 3.0 TeV for excited electrons and muons, 2.5 TeV for excited taus, and 1.6 TeV for every excited-neutrino flavour. |

Abstract |
A search is performed in the invariant mass spectrum of the B-c(+)pi(+) pi(-) system for the excited B-c(+) states B-c (2(1)S(0)) + and B-c(2(3)S(1)) + using a data sample of p p collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at the centre- of- mass energy of root s = 8TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb(-1). No evidence is seen for either state. Upper limits on the ratios of the production cross- sections of the Bc (2(1)S(0)) + and B-c(2(3)S(1)) + states times the branching fractions of Bc (2(1)S(0))(+) -> B-c(+)pi(+) pi(-) and B-c (2(3) S-1)(+) -> B-c*(+)pi(+) pi(-) over the production cross- section of the B-c(+) state are given as a function of their masses. They are found to be between 0.02 and 0.14 at 95% con fi dence level for B-c (2(1)S(0)) + and B-c (2(3)S(1)) + in the mass ranges [6830; 6890] MeV/c(2) and [6795; 6890] MeV/c(2), respectively. |
