Abstract |
A study of B+ -> J/psi eta K+ decays, followed by J/psi -> mu(+)mu(-) and eta -> gamma gamma, is performed using a dataset collected with the LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). The J/psi eta mass spectrum is investigated for contributions from charmonia and charmonium-like states. Evidence is found for the B+ -> (psi(2)(3823) -> J/psi eta)K+ and B+ -> (psi(4040) -> J/psi eta)K+ decays with significance of 3.4 and 4.7 standard deviations, respectively. This constitutes the first evidence for the psi(2)(3823) -> J/psi eta decay. |

Abstract |
In this work we investigate the possibility of the formation of states from the dynamics involved in the D* D* D* system by considering that two D*'s generate a JP = 1+ bound state, with isospin 0, which has been predicted in an earlier theoretical work. We solve the Faddeev equations for this system within the fixed center approximation and find the existence of J(P) = 0(-), 1(-) and 2(-) states with charm 3, isospin 1/2, masses similar to 6000 MeV, which are manifestly exotic hadrons, i.e., with a multiquark inner structure. |

Abstract |
Deviations from unitarity in the three-neutrino mixing canonical picture are expected in many physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model. The mixing of new heavy neutral leptons with the three light neutrinos would in principle modify the strength and flavour structure of charged-current and neutral-current interactions with matter. Non-unitarity effects would therefore have an impact on the neutrino decoupling processes in the early Universe and on the value of the effective number of neutrinos, Neff. We calculate the cosmological energy density in the form of radiation with a non-unitary neutrino mixing matrix, addressing the possible interplay between parameters. Highly accurate measurements of Neff from forthcoming cosmological observations can provide independent and complementary limits on the departures from unitarity. For completeness, we relate the scenario of small deviations from unitarity to non-standard neutrino interactions and compare the forecasted constraints to other existing limits in the literature. |

Abstract |
We propose a minimal model where a dark sector seeds neutrino mass generation radiatively within the linear seesaw mechanism. Neutrino masses are calculable, since treelevel contributions are forbidden by symmetry. They arise from spontaneous lepton number violation by a small Higgs triplet vacuum expectation value. Lepton flavour violating processes e.g. μ-> e gamma can be sizeable, despite the tiny neutrino masses. We comment also on dark-matter and collider implications. |

Abstract |
.In a fusion-evaporation reaction, nuclei are produced by evaporating light-charged particles and neutrons from the compound nucleus. Typically, a nucleus of interest is produced as a result of a part of the total cross-section and, in order to guarantee a good channel discrimination, a particle detector, like the EUCLIDES 4 Si-ball array, is necessary. EUCLIDES has been quoted in more than a hundred publications resulting from many experiments performed in combination with the EUROBALL and GASP -ray spectrometers. The present paper reports on the upgraded version of EUCLIDES, that is presently coupled to the new GALILEO -ray spectrometer, installed at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, INFN. The design, characteristics and performance of the EUCLIDES array are presented and discussed. |

Abstract |
We analyze the phenomenological consequences of embedding a flavor symmetry based on the groups A(5) and CP in a supersymmetric framework. We concentrate on the leptonic sector, where two different residual symmetries are assumed to be conserved at leading order for charged and neutral leptons. All possible realizations to generate neutrino masses at tree level are investigated. Sizable flavor violating effects in the charged lepton sector are unavoidable due to the non-universality of soft-breaking terms determined by the symmetry. We derive testable predictions for the neutrino spectrum, lepton mixing and flavor changing processes with non-trivial relations among observables. |

Abstract |
The PTOLEMY project aims to develop a scalable design for a Cosmic Neutrino Background (CNB) detector, the first of its kind and the only one conceived that can look directly at the image of the Universe encoded in neutrino background produced in the first second after the Big Bang. The scope of the work for the next three years is to complete the conceptual design of this detector and to validate with direct measurements that the non-neutrino backgrounds are below the expected cosmological signal. In this paper we discuss in details the theoretical aspects of the experiment and its physics goals. In particular, we mainly address three issues. First we discuss the sensitivity of PTOLEMY to the standard neutrino mass scale. We then study the perspectives of the experiment to detect the CNB via neutrino capture on tritium as a function of the neutrino mass scale and the energy resolution of the apparatus. Finally, we consider an extra sterile neutrino with mass in the eV range, coupled to the active states via oscillations, which has been advocated in view of neutrino oscillation anomalies. This extra state would contribute to the tritium decay spectrum, and its properties, mass and mixing angle, could be studied by analyzing the features in the beta decay electron spectrum. |

Abstract |
Electron and photon triggers covering transverse energies from 5 GeV to several TeV are essential for the ATLAS experiment to record signals for a wide variety of physics: from StandardModel processes to searches for new phenomena in both proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions. To cope with a fourfold increase of peak LHC luminosity from 2015 to 2018 (Run 2), to 2.1 x 10(34) cm(-2) s(-1), and a similar increase in the number of interactions per beam-crossing to about 60, trigger algorithms and selections were optimised to control the rates while retaining a high efficiency for physics analyses. For proton-proton collisions, the single-electron trigger efficiency relative to a single-electron offline selection is at least 75% for an offline electron of 31 GeV, and rises to 96% at 60 GeV; the trigger efficiency of a 25GeVleg of the primary diphoton trigger relative to a tight offline photon selection is more than 96% for an offline photon of 30 GeV. For heavy-ion collisions, the primary electron and photon trigger efficiencies relative to the corresponding standard offline selections are at least 84% and 95%, respectively, at 5 GeV above the corresponding trigger threshold. |

Abstract |
We present a generalization of the relativistic, finite-volume, three-particle quantization condition for non-identical pions in isosymmetric QCD. The resulting formalism allows one to use discrete finite-volume energies, determined using lattice QCD, to constrain scattering amplitudes for all possible values of two- and three-pion isospin. As for the case of identical pions considered previously, the result splits into two steps: the first defines a non-perturbative function with roots equal to the allowed energies, E-n(L), in a given cubic volume with side-length L. This function depends on an intermediate three-body quantity, denoted K-df;3, which can thus be constrained from lattice QCD input. The second step is a set of integral equations relating K-df,K-3 to the physical scattering amplitude, M-3. Both of the key relations, E-n(L) <-> K-df,K-3 and K-df,K-3 <-> M-3, are shown to be block-diagonal in the basis of definite three-pion isospin, I-pi pi pi, so that one in fact recovers four independent relations, corresponding to I-pi pi pi = 0; 1; 2; 3. We also provide the generalized threshold expansion of K-df,K-3 for all channels, as well as parameterizations for all three-pion resonances present for I-pi pi pi = 0 and I-pi pi pi = 1. As an example of the utility of the generalized formalism, we present a toy implementation of the quantization condition for I-pi pi pi = 0, focusing on the quantum numbers of the omega and h(1) resonances. |

Abstract |
We present the first calculation of the scattering amplitude in the singlet channel beyond QCD. The calculation is performed in SU(2) gauge theory with N-f = 2 fundamental Dirac fermions and based on a finite-volume scattering formalism. The theory exhibits a SU (4) -> Sp(4) chiral symmetry breaking pattern that is used to design minimal composite Higgs models currently tested at the LHC. Our results show that, for the range of underlying fermion mass considered, the lowest flavour singlet state is stable. |
