Abstract: A simultaneous analysis of the B thorn & RARR; K thorn e thorn e- and B0 & RARR; K & DBLBOND;0e thorn e- decays is performed to test muonelectron universality in two ranges of the square of the dilepton invariant mass, q2. The measurement uses a sample of beauty meson decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb-1. A sequence of multivariate selections and strict particle identification requirements produce a higher signal purity and a better statistical sensitivity per unit luminosity than previous LHCb lepton universality tests using the same decay modes. Residual backgrounds due to misidentified hadronic decays are studied using data and included in the fit model. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q2 interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Abstract: Using a proton-proton collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) collected by LHCb at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, about 3800 Xi(0)(b) -> Xi(+)(c)pi(-), Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+) signal decays are reconstructed. From this sample, the first measurement of the Xi(0)(b) baryon lifetime is made, relative to that of the Lambda(0)(b) baryon. The mass differences M(Xi(0)(b)) – M(Lambda(0)(b)) and M(Xi(+)(c)) – M(Lambda(+)(c)) are also measured with precision more than 4 times better than the current world averages. The resulting values are tau(Xi b0)/tau(Lambda b0) = 1.006 +/- 0.018 +/- 0.010, M(Xi(0)(b)) – M(Lambda(0)(b)) = 172.44 +/- 0.39 +/- 0.17 MeV/c(2), M(Xi(+)(c)) – M(Lambda(+)(c)) = 181.51 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.10 MeV/c(2), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The relative rate of Xi(0)(b) to Lambda(0)(b) baryon production is measured to be f(Xi b0) B(Xi(0)(b) -> Xi(+)(c)pi(-)) B(Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+))/f(Lambda b0) B(Lambda(0)(b) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-)) B(Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+)) = (1.88 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.03) x 10(-2), where the first factor is the ratio of fragmentation fractions, b -> Xi(0)(b) relative to b -> Lambda(0)(b). Relative production rates as functions of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity are also presented.

Abstract: We report measurements of the lifetimes of the Lambda(+)(c), Xi(+)(c) and Xi(0)(c) charm baryons using proton- proton collision data at center- of- mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment. The charm baryons are reconstructed through the decays Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+),. Xi(+)(c) -> pK(-) pi(+) and Xi(0)(c) -> pK(-) K- pi(+), and originate from semimuonic decays of beauty baryons. The lifetimes are measured relative to that of the D+ meson, and are determined to be tau Lambda(+)(c) = 203.5 +/- 1.0 +/- 1.3 +/- 1.4 fs; tau Xi(+)(c) = 456.8 +/- 3.5 +/- 2.9 +/- 3.1 fs; tau Xi(0)(c) = 154.5 +/- 1.7 +/- 1.6 +/- 1.0 fs; where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the D+ lifetime. The measurements are approximately 3- 4 times more precise than the current world average values. The. +c and Xi(+)(c) lifetimes are in agreement with previous measurements; however, the Xi(0)(c) baryon lifetime is approximately 3.3 standard deviations larger than the world average value.

Abstract: An amplitude analysis of B- -> J/psi Lambda(p) over bar decays is performed using 4400 signal candidates selected on a data sample of pp collisions recorded at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb(-1). A narrow resonance in the J/psi Lambda system, consistent with a pentaquark candidate with strangeness, is observed with high significance. The mass and the width of this new state are measured to be 4338.2 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.4 MeV and 7.0 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.3 MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The spin is determined to be 1/2 and negative parity is preferred. Because of the small Q-value of the reaction, the most precise single measurement of the B- mass to date, 5279.44 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.07 MeV, is obtained.

Abstract: The radiative decay Lambda(0 )(b)-> Lambda gamma is observed for the first time using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Its branching fraction is measured exploiting the B-0 -> K*(0)gamma decay as a normalization mode and is found to be B(Lambda(0 )(b)-> Lambda gamma) = (7.1 +/- 1.5 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.7) x 10(-6), where the quoted uncertainties arc statistical, systematic, and systematic from external inputs, respectively. This is the first observation of a radiative decay of a beauty baryon.

Abstract: Observations are reported of different sources of CP violation from an amplitude analysis of B+ -> pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) decays, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) of pp collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. A large CP asymmetry is observed in the decay amplitude involving the tensor f(2)(1270) resonance, and in addition significant CP violation is found in the pi(+)pi S- wave at low invariant mass. The presence of CP violation related to interference between the pi(+)pi S- wave and the P wave B+ -> rho(770)(0)pi(+) amplitude is also established; this causes large local asymmetries but cancels when integrated over the phase space of the decay. The results provide both qualitative and quantitative new insights into CP -violation effects in hadronic B decays.

Abstract: Measurements are presented of the CP violation observables S and C in the decays of B-0 and (B) over bar (0) mesons to the J/psi K-S(0) final state. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, and contains a total of 41 560 selected B-0 and (B) over bar (0) decays. The analysis of the time evolution of these decays yields S = 0.731 +/- 0.035(stat) +/- 0.020(syst) and C = -0.038 +/- 0.032(stat) +/- 0.005(syst). In the standard model, S equals sin(2 beta) to a good level of precision. The values are consistent with the current world averages and with the standard model expectations.

Abstract: Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against a Z boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 < pT < 100 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range 2.5 < ? < 4. The data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb(-1). Triple differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse momentum-dependent fragmentation functions. Differences in the shapes and magnitudes of the measured distributions for the different hadron species provide insights into the hadronization process for jets predominantly initiated by light quarks.

Abstract: The production fractions of (B) over bar (0)(s) and Lambda(0)(b) hadrons, normalized to the sum of B- and (B) over bar (0) fractions, arc measured in 13 TeV pp collisions using data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.67 fb(-1). These ratios, averaged over the b hadron transverse momenta from 4 to 25 GeV and pseudorapidity from 2 to 5, are 0.122 +/- 0.006 for (B) over bar (0)(s) and 0.259 +/- 0.018 for Lambda(0)(b) where the uncertainties arise from both statistical and systematic sources. The Lambda(0)(b) ratio depends strongly on transverse momentum, while the (B) over bar (0)(s) ratio shows a mild dependence. Neither ratio shows variations with pseudorapidity. The measurements are made using semileptonic decays to minimize theoretical uncertainties. In addition, the ratio of D+ to D-0 mesons produced in the sum of (B) over bar (0) and B- semileptonic decays is determined as 0.359 +/- 0.006 +/- 0.009, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic.

Abstract: A measurement of the CP asymmetry in D-0 -> (KSKS0)-K-0 decays is reported, based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment from 2015 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1). The flavor of the D-0 candidate is determined using the charge of the D-*+/- meson, from which the decay is required to originate. The D-0 -> K+K- decay is used as a calibration channel. The time-integrated CP asymmetry for the D-0 -> (KSKS0)-K-0 mode is measured to be A(CP)(D-0 -> (KSKS0)-K-0) = (-3.1 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.2), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainty on the CP asymmetry of the calibration channel. This is the most precise determination of this quantity to date.
