Title beta decay of semi-magic Cd-130: Revision and extension of the level scheme of In-130 Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 94 Issue 2 Pages (down) 024303 - 8pp
Keywords
Abstract The beta decay of the semi-magic nucleus Cd-130 has been studied at the RIBF facility at the RIKEN Nishina Center. The high statistics of the present experiment allowed for a revision of the established level scheme of In-130 and the observation of additional beta feeding to high- lying core-excited states in In-130. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations employing a model space consisting of the full major N = 50-82 neutron and Z = 28-50 proton shells and the NA-14 interaction, and good agreement is found.

Title Maximal isospin few-body systems of nucleons and Xi hyperons Type Journal Article

Abstract By using local central Yukawa-type interactions that reproduce the low-energy parameters of the latest updates of the Nijmegen ESC08c potentials, we show that the N Xi, NN Xi, N Xi Xi, and NN Xi Xi systems with maximal isospin are bound. Since in these states the strong decay N Xi -> Lambda Lambda is forbidden by isospin conservation, these strange few-body systems will be stable under the strong interaction. These results may suggest that other states with different number of Ns and Xi s in the maximal isospin channel could also be bound.

Title Analysis of the 4-year IceCube high-energy starting events Type Journal Article

Abstract After four years of data taking, the IceCube neutrino telescope has detected 54 high-energy starting events (HESE, or contained-vertex events) with deposited energies above 20 TeV. They represent the first detection of high-energy extraterrestrial neutrinos and, therefore, the first step in neutrino astronomy. To study the energy, flavor, and isotropy of the astrophysical neutrino flux arriving at Earth, we perform different analyses of two different deposited energy intervals, [10 TeV-10 PeV] and [60 TeV-10 PeV]. We first consider an isotropic unbroken power-law spectrum and constrain its shape, normalization, and flavor composition. Our results are in agreement with the preliminary IceCube results, although we obtain a slightly softer spectrum. We also find that current data are not sensitive to a possible neutrino-antineutrino asymmetry in the astrophysical flux. Then, we show that although a two-component power-law model leads to a slightly better fit, it does not represent a significant improvement with respect to a single power-law flux. Finally, we analyze the possible existence of a north-south asymmetry, hinted at by the combination of the HESE sample with the throughgoing muon data. If we use only HESE data, the scarce statistics from the Northern Hemisphere does not allow us to reach any conclusive answer, which indicates that the HESE sample alone is not driving the potential north-south asymmetry.

Title Updated scalar sector constraints in the Higgs triplet model Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 94 Issue 1 Pages (down) 015015 - 10pp

Abstract We show that in the Higgs triplet model, after the Higgs discovery, the mixing angle in the CP-even sector can be strongly constrained from unitarity. We also discuss how large quantum effects in h -> gamma gamma may arise in a Standard-Model-like scenario and a certain part of the parameter space can be ruled out from the diphoton signal strength. Using T-parameter and diphoton signal strength measurements, we update the bounds on the nonstandard scalar masses.

Title Diboson anomaly: Heavy Higgs resonance and QCD vectorlike exotics Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 93 Issue 1 Pages (down) 015012 - 12pp

Abstract The ATLAS Collaboration (and also CMS) has recently reported an excess over Standard Model expectations for gauge boson pair production in the invariant mass region 1.8-2.2 TeV. In light of these results, we argue that such a signal might be the first manifestation of the production and further decay of a heavy CP-even Higgs resulting from a type-I two Higgs doublet model. We demonstrate that in the presence of colored vectorlike fermions, its gluon fusion production cross section is strongly enhanced, with the enhancement depending on the color representation of the new fermion states. Our findings show that barring the color triplet case, any QCD “exotic” representation can fit the ATLAS result in fairly large portions of the parameter space. We have found that if the diboson excess is confirmed and this mechanism is indeed responsible for it, then the LHC Run-2 should find (i) a CP-odd scalar with mass below similar to 2.3 TeV, (ii) new colored states with masses below similar to 2 TeV, (iii) no statistically significant diboson events in the W(+/-)Z channel, (iv) events in the triboson channels W(+/-)W(-/+)Z and ZZZ with invariant mass amounting to the mass of the CP-odd scalar.

Title Observations of the Gamow-Teller resonance in the rare-earth nuclei above Gd-146 populated in beta decay Type Journal Article

Abstract The rare-earth region of the nuclear table around the quasi-doubly magic nucleus Gd-146 is one of the very few places in which the Gamow-Teller (GT) resonance can be populated in beta decay. The appropriate technique to study such a phenomenon is total absorption spectroscopy, thanks to which one can measure the B(GT) distribution in beta-decay experiments even when it is very fragmented and lies at high excitation energy in the daughter nucleus. Results on the GT resonance measured in the beta decay of the odd-Z, N = 83 nuclei Tb-148, Ho-150, and Tm-152 are presented in this work and compared with shell-model calculations. The tail of the resonance is clearly observed up to the limit imposed by the Q value. This observation is important in the context of the understanding of the “quenching” of the GT strength.

Title Semileptonic Lambda(c) decay to nu l(+) and Lambda(1405) Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 93 Issue 1 Pages (down) 014021 - 7pp

Abstract We study the semileptonic decay of Lambda(c) to nu l(+) and Lambda(1405), where the Lambda(1405) is seen in the invariant mass distribution of pi Sigma. We perform the hadronization of the quarks produced in the reaction in order to have a meson baryon pair in the final state and then let these hadron pairs undergo final state interaction from where the Lambda(1405) is dynamically generated. The reaction is particularly suited to study this resonance, because we show that it filters I = 0. It is also free of tree-level pi Sigma production, which leads to a clean signal of the resonance with no background. This same feature has as a consequence that one populates the state of the Lambda(1405) with higher mass around 1420 MeV, predicted by the chiral unitary approach. We make absolute predictions for the invariant mass distributions and find them within the measurable range in present facilities. The implementation of this reaction would allow us to gain insight into the existence of the predicted two Lambda(1405) states and their nature as molecular states.

Title Novel nonperturbative approach for radiative (B)over-bar(0)((B)over-bar(s)(0)) -> J/psi gamma decays Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 94 Issue 1 Pages (down) 014018 - 11pp

Abstract Radiative (B) over bar (0)((B) over bar (0)(s)) -> J/psi gamma decays provide an interesting case to test our understanding of ( non) perturbative QCD and eventually to probe physics beyond the standard model. Recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported an upper bound, updating the results of the BABAR Collaboration. Previous theoretical predictions based on QCD factorization or perturbative QCD have shown large variations due to different treatment of nonfactorizable contributions and meson-photon transitions. In this paper, we report on a novel approach to estimate the decay rates, which is based on a recently proposed model for B decays and the vector meson dominance hypothesis, widely tested in the relevant energy regions. The predicted branching ratios are Br[(B) over bar (0) -> J/psi gamma] = (3.50 +/- 0.34(-0.63)(+1.12)) x 10(-8) and Br[(B) over bar (0)(s) -> J/psi gamma] = (7.20 +/- 0.68(-1.30)(+2.31)) x 10(-7). The first uncertainty is systematic and the second is statistical, originating from the experimental (B) over bar (0)(s) -> J/psi gamma branching ratio.

Title Updated determination of chiral couplings and vacuum condensates from hadronic tau decay data Type Journal Article

Abstract We analyze the lowest spectral moments of the left-right two-point correlation function, using all known short-distance constraints and the recently updated ALEPH V – A spectral function from tau decays. This information is used to determine the low-energy couplings L-10 and C-87 of chiral perturbation theory and the lowest-dimensional contributions to the operator product expansion of the left-right correlator. A detailed statistical analysis is implemented to assess the theoretical uncertainties, including violations of quark-hadron duality.

Abstract We present a new determination of the N Delta axial form factors from neutrino induced pion production data. For this purpose, the model of Hernandez et al. [Phys. Rev. D 76, 033005 (2007)] is improved by partially restoring unitarity. This is accomplished by imposing Watson's theorem on the dominant vector and axial multipoles. As a consequence, a larger C-5(A) (0), in good agreement with the prediction from the off-diagonal Goldberger-Treiman relation, is now obtained.
