Abstract |
Results of a search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1) at root s = 13 TeV collected in 2015 with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are required to have at least one jet with a transverse momentum above 250 GeV and no leptons. Several signal regions are considered with increasing missing-transverse-momentum requirements between E-T(miss) > 250 GeV and E-T(miss) > 700 GeV. Good agreement is observed between the number of events in data and Standard Model predictions. The results are translated into exclusion limits in models with large extra spatial dimensions, pair production of weakly interacting dark-matter candidates, and the production of supersymmetric particles in several compressed scenarios. |

Abstract |
A search for supersymmetry involving the pair production of gluinos decaying via third-generation squarks to the lightest neutralino (chi) over tilde (0)(1) is reported. It uses an LHC proton-proton data set at a center-of-mass energy root s = 13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector in 2015. The signal is searched for in events containing several energetic jets, of which at least three must be identified as b jets, large missing transverse momentum, and, potentially, isolated electrons or muons. Large-radius jets with a high mass are also used to identify highly boosted top quarks. No excess is found above the predicted background. For (chi) over tilde (0)(1) masses below approximately 700 GeV, gluino masses of less than 1.78 TeVand 1.76 TeV are excluded at the 95% C. L. in simplified models of the pair production of gluinos decaying via sbottom and stop, respectively. These results significantly extend the exclusion limits obtained with the root s = 8 TeV data set. |

Abstract |
We describe in detail a previously published measurement of CP violation in B-0-(B) over bar (0) oscillations, based on an integrated luminosity of 425.7 fb(-1) collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEPII collider. We apply a novel technique to a sample of about 6 million (B) over bar (0) -> D*(+)l(-)(nu) over bar (l) decays selected with partial reconstruction of the D*(+) meson. The charged lepton identifies the flavor of one B meson at its decay time, the flavor of the other B is determined by kaon tagging. We determine a CP violating asymmetry A(CP) = (N((BB0)-B-0) – N((B) over bar (0)(B) over bar (0)))/(N((BB0)-B-0) + N((B) over bar (0)(B) over bar (0))) = (0.06 +/- 0.17(-0.32)(+0.38))% corresponding to Delta(CP) = 1-vertical bar q/p vertical bar = (0.29 +/- 0.84(-1.61)(+1.88)) x 10(-3). This measurement is consistent and competitive with those obtained at the B factories with dilepton events. |

Abstract |
Accelerating gradients in excess of 100 MV/m, at very low breakdown rates, have been successfully achieved in numerous prototype CLIC accelerating structures. The conditioning and operational histories of several structures, tested at KEK and CERN, have been compared and there is clear evidence that the conditioning progresses with the number of rf pulses and not with the number of breakdowns. This observation opens the possibility that the optimum conditioning strategy, which minimizes the total number of breakdowns the structure is subject to without increasing conditioning time, may be to never exceed the breakdown rate target for operation. The result is also likely to have a strong impact on efforts to understand the physical mechanism underlying conditioning and may lead to preparation procedures which reduce conditioning time. |

Abstract |
Assuming that the f(2)'(1525), a(2)(1320), and K-2(*) (1430) resonances are dynamically generated states from vector-meson-vector-meson interactions in the s-wave with spin S = 2, we study the gamma p -> f(2)'(1525)p, gamma p -> a(2)(0)(1320)p, and gamma p -> K-2(*)(1430)Lambda(Sigma) reactions. These reactions proceed in the following way: the incoming photon first mutates into a rho(0), omega, or phi meson via vector-meson dominance, which then interacts with the rho(0), omega, or K* emitted by the incoming proton to form the tensor mesons f(2)(')(1525), a(2)(1320), and K-2(*)(1430). The picture is simple and has no free parameters, as all the parameters of the mechanism have been fixed in previous studies. We predict the differential and total cross sections of these reactions. The results can be tested in future experiments and therefore offer new clues about the nature of these tensor states. |
