Abstract: Measurements are presented of the CP violation observables S and C in the decays of B-0 and (B) over bar (0) mesons to the J/psi K-S(0) final state. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, and contains a total of 41 560 selected B-0 and (B) over bar (0) decays. The analysis of the time evolution of these decays yields S = 0.731 +/- 0.035(stat) +/- 0.020(syst) and C = -0.038 +/- 0.032(stat) +/- 0.005(syst). In the standard model, S equals sin(2 beta) to a good level of precision. The values are consistent with the current world averages and with the standard model expectations.

Abstract: We report the observation of the baryonic decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over barK(-)K(+) using a data sample of 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs produced in e(+)e(-) annihilations at root s = 10.58 GeV. This data sample was recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP- II storage ring at SLAC. We find B((B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over barK(-)K(+)) = (2.5 +/- 0.4((stat)) +/- 0.2((syst)) +/- 0.6(B(Lambda c+)) ) x 10(-5) where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty of the Lambda(+)(c) -> (p) over barK(-)pi(+) branching fraction, respectively. The result has a significance corresponding to 5.0 standard deviations, including all uncertainties. For the resonant decay (B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar phi, we determine the upper limit B((B) over bar (0) -> Lambda(+)(c)(p) over bar phi) < 1.2 x 10(-5) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We consider a sonic analog of a black hole realized in the one-dimensional flow of a Bose-Einstein condensate. Our theoretical analysis demonstrates that one-and two-body momentum distributions accessible by present-day experimental techniques provide clear direct evidence (i) of the occurrence of a sonic horizon, (ii) of the associated acoustic Hawking radiation, and (iii) of the quantum nature of the Hawking process. The signature of the quantum behavior persists even at temperatures larger than the chemical potential.

Abstract: We study the meson-baryon interaction with J(P) = 1/2 using the hidden-gauge Lagrangians and mixing pseudoscalar meson-baryon with the vector meson-baryon states in a coupled channels scheme with pi N, eta N, K Lambda, K Sigma, rho N, and pi Delta (d wave). We fit the subtraction constants of each channel to the S-11 partial wave amplitude of the pi N scattering data extracted from the partial wave analysis of the George Washington group. We find two poles that we associate to the N*(1535) and the N*(1650) resonances, with negative subtraction constants of natural size, and compare the results with empirical determinations of these pole positions. We calculate the branching ratios for the different channels of each resonance and we find a good agreement with the experimental data. The cross section for the pi(-)p -> eta n scattering is also evaluated and compared with experiment.

Abstract: Background: Multinucleon transfer reactions (MNT) are a competitive tool to populate exotic neutron-rich nuclei in a wide region of nuclei, where other production methods have severe limitations or cannot be used at all. Purpose: Experimental information on the yields of MNT reactions in comparison with theoretical calculations are necessary to make predictions for the production of neutron-rich heavy nuclei. It is crucial to determine the fraction of MNT reaction products which are surviving neutron emission or fission at the high excitation energy after the nucleon exchange. Method: Multinucleon transfer reactions in Xe-136 + U-238 have been measured in a high-resolution gamma-ray/particle coincidence experiment. The large solid-angle magnetic spectrometer PRISMA coupled to the high-resolution Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) has been employed. Beamlike reaction products after multinucleon transfer in the Xe region were identified and selected with the PRISMA spectrometer. Coincident particles were tagged by multichannel plate detectors placed at the grazing angle of the targetlike recoils inside the scattering chamber. Results: Mass yields have been extracted and compared with calculations based on the GRAZING model for MNT reactions. Kinematic coincidences between the binary reaction products, i.e., beamlike and targetlike nuclei, were exploited to obtain population yields for nuclei in the actinide region and compared to x-ray yields measured by AGATA. Conclusions: No sizable yield of actinide nuclei beyond Z = 93 is found to perform nuclear structure investigations. In-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy is feasible for few-neutron transfer channels in U and the -2p channel populating Th isotopes.
