Abstract |
The first measurement of the lifetime of the doubly charmed baryon Xi(++)(cc) is presented, with the signal reconstructed in the final state Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+)pi(+). The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The Xi(++)(cc) lifetime is measured to be 0.256(-0.022)(+0.024) (stat) +/- 0.014(syst) ps. |

Abstract |
We analyze the pair production induced by homogenous, time-dependent electric fields in an expanding space-time background. We point out that, in obtaining the semiclassical Maxwell equations, two distinct notions of adiabatic renormalization are possible. In Minkowski space, the two recipes turn out to be equivalent. However, in the presence of gravity, only the recipe requiring an adiabatic hierarchy between the gravitational and the gauge field is consistent with the conservation of the energy-momentum tensor. |

Abstract |
ATLAS measurements of the production of muons from heavy-flavor decays in root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions and root s = 2.76 TeV pp collisions at the LHC are presented. Integrated luminosities of 0.14 nb(-1) and 570 nb(-1) are used for the Pb+Pb and pp measurements, respectively, which are performed over the muon transverse momentum range 4 < pT < 14 GeV and for five Pb+Pb centrality intervals. Backgrounds arising from in-flight pion and kaon decays, hadronic showers, and misreconstructed muons are statistically removed using a template-fitting procedure. The heavy-flavor muon differential cross sections and per-event yields are measured in pp and Pb+Pb collisions, respectively. The nuclear modification factor R-AA obtained from these is observed to be independent of pT, within uncertainties, and to be less than unity, which indicates suppressed production of heavy-flavor muons in Pb+Pb collisions. For the 10% most central Pb+Pb events, the measured R-AA is approximately 0.35. The azimuthal modulation of the heavy-flavor muon yields is also measured and the associated Fourier coefficients v(n) for n = 2, 3, and 4 are given as a function of pT and centrality. They vary slowly with pT and show a systematic variation with centrality which is characteristic of other anisotropy measurements, such as that observed for inclusive hadrons. The measured R-AA and v(n) values are also compared with theoretical calculations. |

Abstract |
Starting from general expressions of well-chosen symmetric nuclear matter quantities derived for both zero-and finite-range effective theories, we derive some universal relations between them. We first showthat, independently of the range, the two-body contribution is enough to describe correctly the saturation mechanism but gives an effective mass value around m(*)/m similar or equal to 0.4 when the other properties of the saturation point are set near their generally accepted values. Then, we show that a more elaborated interaction (for instance, an effective two-body density-dependent term on top of the pure two-body term) is needed to reach the accepted value m(*)/m similar or equal to 0.7-0.8. |

Abstract |
We perform calculations for the (B) over bar (0)(s)-> J/psi pi(0)f(0)(980) and (B) over bar (0)(s)-> J/psi pi(0)a(0)(980) reactions, showing that the first is isospin-suppressed while the second is isospin-allowed. The reaction proceeds via a triangle mechanism, with (B) over bar (0)(s)-> J/psi K*(K) over bar +c.c., followed by the decay K*-> K pi and a further fusion of K (K) over bar into the f(0)(980) or a(0)(980). We show that the mechanism develops a singularity around the pi(0)f(0)(980) or pi(0)a(0)(980) invariant mass of 1420 MeV, where the pi(0)f(0) and pi(0)a(0) decay modes are magnified and also the ratio of pi(0)f(0) to pi(0)a(0) production. Using experimental information for the (B) over bar (0)(s)-> J/psi K*(K) over bar +c.c. decay, we are able to obtain absolute values for the reactions studied which fall into the experimentally accessible range. The reactions proposed and the observables evaluated, when contrasted with actual experiments, should be very valuable to obtain information on the nature of the low lying scalar mesons. |
