Title Measurement of the Prompt D0 Nuclear Modification Factor in p-Pb Collisions at √SNN=8.16 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2023 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.

  Keywords
Abstract The production of prompt D0 mesons in proton-lead collisions in both the forward and backward rapidity regions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √SNN= = 8.16 TeV is measured by the sNN LHCb experiment. The nuclear modification factor of prompt D0 mesons is determined as a function of the transverse momentum pT, and the rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame y*. In the forward rapidity region, significantly suppressed production with respect to pp collisions is measured, which provides significant constraints on models of nuclear parton distributions and hadron production down to the very low Bjorken-x region of similar to 10-5. In the backward rapidity region, a suppression with a significance of 2.0-3.8 standard deviations compared to parton distribution functions in a nuclear environment expectations is found in the kinematic region of pT 6 GeV/c and -3.25 < y* < -2.5, corresponding to x similar to 0.01.

Title Measurement of B-s(0) and D-s(-) Meson Lifetimes Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
  Volume 119 Issue 10 Pages (down) 101801 - 10pp
  Keywords
Abstract We report on a measurement of the flavor-specific B-s(0) lifetime and of the D-s(-) lifetime using proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. Approximately 407 000 B-s(0) -> D-s(()*()) -> D-s(()*()-) mu+v(mu) decays are partially reconstructed in the K+K-pi(-)mu(+) final state. The B-s(0) and D-s(-) natural widths are determined using, as a reference, kinematically similar B-0 -> Dd(*)(-) mu+v(mu) decays reconstructed in the same final state. The resulting differences between widths of B-s(0) and B-0 mesons and of D-s(-) and D- mesons are Delta(Gamma)(B) = -0.0115 +/- 0.0053(stat) +/- 0.0041 (syst) ps(-1) and Delta(Gamma)(D) = 1.0131 +/- 0.0117(stat) +/- 0.0065(syst) ps(-1), respectively. Combined with the known B-0 and D- lifetimes, these yield the flavor-specific B-s(0) lifetime, tau(fs)(Bs0) = 1.547 +/- 0.013 (stat) +/- 0.010 (syst) +/- 0.004(tau(B)) ps and the D-s(-) lifetime, tau(Ds-) = 0.5064 +/- 0.0030(stat) +/- 0.0017(syst) +/- 0.0017(sys) +/- 0.0017(tau(D)). The last uncertainties originate from the limited knowledge of the B-0 and D- lifetimes. The results improve upon current determinations.

Year 2021 Publication Science China-Physics Mechanics & Astronomy Abbreviated Journal Sci. China-Phys. Mech. Astron.
  Volume 64 Issue 10 Pages (down) 101062 - 12pp
Keywords charmed baryons; limits on production of particles; charmed quarks; experimental tests
Abstract A search for the doubly charmed baryon Omega(+)(cc) with the decay mode Omega(+)(cc) -> Xi K-+(c)-pi(+) is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1). No significant signal is observed within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0GeV/c(2). Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total branching fraction of the Omega(+)(cc) -> Xi K-+(c)-pi(+) decay with respect to the Xi(++)(cc) -> Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+)pi(+) decay. Upper limits at 95% credibility level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are obtained for different hypotheses on the Omega(+)(cc) mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/c.

Keywords B physics; quarkonium; spectroscopy; heavy quark production
Abstract The first search for the doubly heavy Omega(0)(bc) baryon and a search for the Xi(0)(bc) baryon are performed using collision data collected via the experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb(-1). The baryons are reconstructed via their decays to Lambda(+)(-)(c)(pi) and Xi(+)(c)pi(-). No significant excess is found for invariant masses between 6700 and 7300 MeV/c(2), in a rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and a transverse momentum range from 2 to 20 MeV/c. Upper limits are set on the ratio of the Omega(0)(bc) and Xi(0)(bc) production cross-section times the branching fraction to Lambda(+)(c)pi(-)(Xi(+)(c)pi(-)) relative to that of the Lambda(0)(b)(Xi(0)(b)) baryon, for different lifetime hypotheses, at 95% confidence level. The upper limits range from 0.5x10(-4) to 2.5x10(-4) for the Omega(0)(bc) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-) (Xi(0)(bc) -> Lambda(+)(c)pi(-)) decay, pending on the considered mass and lifetime of the Omega(0)(bc) (Xi(0)(bc)) baryon.

Abstract A measurement of the ratios of the effective decay widths of D-0 -> pi(-)pi(+) and D-0 -> K- K+ decays over that of D-0 -> K-pi(+) decays is performed with the LHCb experiment using proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb(-1). These observables give access to the charm mixing parameters y(CP)(pi pi) – y(CP)(K pi )and y(CP)(KK) -y(CP)(K pi), and are measured as y(CP)(pi pi) – y(CP)(K pi) = (6.57 +/- 0.53 +/- 0.16) x 10(-3), y(CP)(KK) – y(CP)(K pi) = (7.08 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.14) x 10(-3), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The combination of the two measurements is Y-CP – y(CP)(K pi) = (6.96 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.13) x 10(-3), which is four times more precise than the previous world average.

Abstract The decay of the narrow resonance (B) over bar (s2)*(0 )-> B(-)K(+)can be used to determine the B- momentum in partially reconstructed decays without any assumptions on the decay products of the r meson. This technique is employed for the first time to distinguish contributions from D-0, D*(0), and higher-mass charmed states (D(0)) in semileptonic B- decays by using the missing-mass distribution. The measurement is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected with the LHCb detector in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The resulting branching fractions relative to the inclusive B- -> (DX)-X-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu )are f(D)(0)= B(B- -> D-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar mu/B(B- ->(DX)-D- -X-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu))( )= 0.25( )+/- 0.06, f( D)(0 )= B(B- -> (D(0) -> (DX)-X-0)mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu))/B(B--> (DX)-X-0 mu(-)(nu) over bar (mu)) = 0.21 +/- 0.07, with f(D)*(0) = 1 – f(D)(0) – f(D)(0) making up the remainder.

Abstract The branching fraction of the decay B-s(0) -> D-s(()*D-)+(s)(*()-) is measured using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1), collected using the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. It is found to be B(B-s(0) -> D-s(()*D-)(s)(*()-)) = (3.05 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.34)%, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the normalization channel, respectively. The branching fractions of the individual decays corresponding to the presence of one or two D-s(*+/-) are also measured. The individual branching fractions are found to be B(B-s(0) -> D-s*D-+/-(s)-/+) = (1.35 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.15)%, B(B-s(0) -> D-s*D-+(s)*(-)) = (1.27 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.14)%. All three results are the most precise determinations to date.

These branching fractions are normalized to those of (B) over bar (0) -> D+D-, B-0 -> D-Ds+ and B- -> (DDs-)-D-0, respectively. An excess of events consistent with the decay (B) over bar (0) -> D-0(D) over bar (0) is also seen, and its branching fraction is measured relative to that of B- -> D0Ds-. Improved measurements of the branching fractions B((B) over bar (0)(s) -> Ds+Ds-) and B(B- -> (DDs-)-D-0) are reported, each relative to B(B-0 -> D-Ds+).
