Abstract: To investigate the systematics of mixed-symmetry states in N = 52 isotones, a relativistic Coulomb excitation experiment was performed during the PreSPEC campaign at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung to determine E2 transition strengths to 2(+) states of the radioactive nucleus Kr-88. Absolute transition rates could be measured towards the first and third 2+ states. For the latter a mixed-symmetry character is suggested on the basis of the indication for a strong M1 transition to the fully symmetric 2(1)(+) state, extending the knowledge of the N = 52 isotones below Z = 40. A comparison with the proton-neutron interacting boson model and shell-model predictions is made and supports the assignment.

Abstract: The magnetic susceptibility of the QCD vacuum is analyzed in the framework of a nonlocal SU(3) Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Considering two different model parametrizations, we estimate the values of the u-and s-quark tensor coefficients and magnetic susceptibilities and then we extend the analysis to finite temperature systems. Our numerical results are compared to those obtained in other theoretical approaches and in lattice QCD calculations.

Abstract: In this paper we study the relationship between the D-s0*(2317)(+) resonance and the decay of the B-c meson into J/Psi DK. In this process, the B-c meson decays first into J/Psi and the quark pair c (s) over bar, and then the quark pair hadronizes into DK or D-s eta components, which undergo final state interaction. This final state interaction, generating the D-s0*(2317)(+) resonance, is described by the chiral unitary approach. With the parameters which allow us to match the pole position of the D-s0*(2317)(+), we obtain the DK invariant mass distribution of the decay B-c -> J/Psi DK, and also the rate for B-c -> J/Psi D-s0*(2317). The ratio of these two magnitudes is then predicted.

Abstract: General neutrino-scalar couplings appear in many extensions of the Standard Model. We can probe these neutrino-scalar couplings by a leptonic decay of mesons and from a heavy neutrino search. Our analysis improves the present limits to vertical bar g(e)vertical bar(2) < 1.9 x 10(-6) and vertical bar g(mu)vertical bar(2) < 1.9 x 10(-7) at 90% C.L. for massless scalars. For massive scalars, we found for the first time the constraints for g(alpha)(2) couplings to be 10(-6) – 10(-1), respectively, for scalar masses between up 100 MeV, and we have no limits for masses above 300 MeV.

Abstract: Amplitude models are applied to studies of resonance structure in D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+) and D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-) decays using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. Relative magnitude and phase information is determined, and coherence factors and related observables are computed for both the whole phase space and a restricted region of 100 MeV/c(2) around the K*(892)(+/-) resonance. Two formulations for the K pi S-wave are used, both of which give a good description of the data. The ratio of branching fractions B(D-0 -> (KSK+)-K-0 pi(-))/B(D-0 -> (KSK-)-K-0 pi(+)) is measured to be 0.655 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.006(syst) over the full phase space and 0.370 +/- 0.003(stat) +/- 0.012(syst) in the restricted region. A search for CP violation is performed using the amplitude models and no significant effect is found. Predictions from SU(3) flavor symmetry for K*(892)K amplitudes of different charges are compared with the amplitude model results.

Abstract: We study the lepton forward-backward asymmetry AFB and the longitudinal K* polarization F-L, as well as an observable P-2 derived from them, in the rare decays B -> K*l(+)l(-), where l(+)l(-) is either e(+)e(-) or mu(+)mu(-), using the full sample of 471 million B (B) over bar events collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR, detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) collider. We separately fit and report results for the K*(0)(892)l(+)l(-) and K*(+)(892) l(+)l(-) final states, as well as their combination K*l(+)l(-), in five disjoint dilepton mass-squared bins. An angular analysis of B+ -> K*(+)l(+)l(-) decays is presented here for the first time.

Abstract: We measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry in the radiative-penguin decay B-0 -> K-S(0)pi(-)pi(+)gamma, using a sample of 471 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S) -> B (B) over bar events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)(e) over tilde (-) storage ring at SLAC. Using events with m(K pi pi) < 1.8 GeV/c(2), we measure the branching fractions of B+ -> K+pi(-)pi(+)gamma and B-0 -> K-S(0)pi(-)pi(+)gamma, the branching fractions of the kaonic resonances decaying to K+pi(-)pi(+)gamma, as well as the overall branching fractions of the B+ -> rho K-0(+.)gamma, B+ -> K*(0)pi(+)gamma. and S-wave B+ -> (K pi)(0)(*0) pi(+)gamma components. For events from the rho mass band, we measure the CP-violating parameters SKS0 pi+pi-gamma = 0.14 +/- 0.25 +/- 0.03 and CKS0 pi+pi-gamma = -0.39 +/- 0.20(-0.02)(+0.003), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We extract from this measurement the time-dependent CP asymmetry related to the CP eigenstate rho K-0(S)0 and obtain S-KS(0) = -0.18 +/- 0.32(-0.05)(+0.06), which provides information on the photon polarization in the underlying b -> s gamma transition.

Abstract: A search for highly ionizing particles produced in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV center-of-mass energy is performed by the ATLAS Collaboration at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 7.0 fb(-1). A customized trigger significantly increases the sensitivity, permitting a search for such particles with charges and energies beyond what was previously accessible. No events were found in the signal region, leading to production cross section upper limits in the mass range 200-2500 GeV for magnetic monopoles with magnetic charge in the range 0.5g(D) < vertical bar g vertical bar < 2.0g(D), where g(D) is the Dirac charge, and for stable particles with electric charge in the range 10 < vertical bar z vertical bar < 60. Model-dependent limits are presented in given pair-production scenarios, and model-independent limits are presented in fiducial regions of particle energy and pseudorapidity.

Abstract: The results of a search for the top squark, the supersymmetric partner of the top quark, in final states with one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses the 2015 LHC pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1). The analysis targets two types of signal models: gluino-mediated pair production of top squarks with a nearly mass-degenerate top squark and neutralino and direct pair production of top squarks, decaying to the top quark and the lightest neutralino. The experimental signature in both signal scenarios is similar to that of a top quark pair produced in association with large missing transverse momentum. No significant excess over the Standard Model background prediction is observed, and exclusion limits on gluino and top squark masses are set at 95% confidence level. The results extend the LHC run-1 exclusion limit on the gluino mass up to 1460 GeV in the gluino-mediated scenario in the high gluino and low top squark mass region and add an excluded top squark mass region from 745 to 780 GeV for the direct top squark model with a massless lightest neutralino. The results are also reinterpreted to set exclusion limits in a model of vectorlike top quarks.

Abstract: The momentum-weighted sum of the charges of tracks associated to a jet is sensitive to the charge of the initiating quark or gluon. This paper presents a measurement of the distribution of momentum-weighted sums, called jet charge, in dijet events using 20.3 fb(-1) of data recorded with the ATLAS detector at root s = 8 TeV in pp collisions at the LHC. The jet charge distribution is unfolded to remove distortions from detector effects and the resulting particle-level distribution is compared with several models. The p(T) dependence of the jet charge distribution average and standard deviation are compared to predictions obtained with several leading-order and next-to-leading-order parton distribution functions. The data are also compared to different Monte Carlo simulations of QCD dijet production using various settings of the free parameters within these models. The chosen value of the strong coupling constant used to calculate gluon radiation is found to have a significant impact on the predicted jet charge. There is evidence for a pT dependence of the jet charge distribution for a given jet flavor. In agreement with perturbative QCD predictions, the data show that the average jet charge of quark-initiated jets decreases in magnitude as the energy of the jet increases.
