Title Isospin Character of Low-Lying Pygmy Dipole States in Pb-208 via Inelastic Scattering of O-17 Ions Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 113 Issue 1 Pages (up) 012501 - 5pp
Keywords
Abstract The properties of pygmy dipole states in Pb-208 were investigated using the Pb-208(O-17, O-17'gamma) reaction at 340 MeV and measuring the gamma decay with high resolution with the AGATA demonstrator array. Cross sections and angular distributions of the emitted gamma rays and of the scattered particles were measured. The results are compared with (gamma, gamma') and (p, p') data. The data analysis with the distorted wave Born approximation approach gives a good description of the elastic scattering and of the inelastic excitation of the 2(+) and 3(-) states. For the dipole transitions a form factor obtained by folding a microscopically calculated transition density was used for the first time. This has allowed us to extract the isoscalar component of the 1(-) excited states from 4 to 8 MeV.

Title First Measurement of Several beta-Delayed Neutron Emitting Isotopes Beyond N=126 Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 117 Issue 1 Pages (up) 012501 - 6pp
Keywords
Abstract The beta-delayed neutron emission probabilities of neutron rich Hg and Tl nuclei have been measured together with beta-decay half-lives for 20 isotopes of Au, Hg, Tl, Pb, and Bi in the mass region N greater than or similar to 126. These are the heaviest species where neutron emission has been observed so far. These measurements provide key information to evaluate the performance of nuclear microscopic and phenomenological models in reproducing the high-energy part of the beta-decay strength distribution. This provides important constraints on global theoretical models currently used in r-process nucleosynthesis.

Title Investigation of the Li-10 shell inversion by neutron continuum transfer reaction Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 118 Issue 1 Pages (up) 012701 - 5pp

Abstract This Letter reports a study of the highly debated 10Li structure through the d(Li-9,p)Li-10 one-neutron transfer reaction at 100 MeV. The Li-10 energy spectrum is measured up to 4.6 MeV and angular distributions corresponding to different excitation energy regions are reported for the first time. The comparison between data and theoretical predictions, including pairing correlation effects, shows the existence of a p(1/2) resonance at 0.45 +/- 0.03 MeV excitation energy, while no evidence for a significant s-wave contribution close to the threshold energy is observed. Moreover, two high-lying structures are populated at 1.5 and 2.9 MeV. The corresponding angular distributions suggest a significant s(1/2) partial-wave contribution for the 1.5 MeV structure and a mixing of configurations at higher energy, with the d(5/2) partial-wave contributing the most to the cross section.

Title First Experimental Study of Photon Polarization in Radiative B-s(0) Decays Type Journal Article
Year 2017 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 118 Issue 2 Pages (up) 021801 - 9pp
Keywords
Abstract The polarization of photons produced in radiative B-s(0) decays is studied for the first time. The data are recorded by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1) at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. A time-dependent analysis of the B-s(0) ->phi gamma decay rate is conducted to determine the parameter A(Delta), which is related to the ratio of right-over left-handed photon polarization amplitudes in b -> s gamma transitions. A value of A(Delta) = -0.98(-0.52)(-0.20)(+0.46)(+0.23) is measured. This result is consistent with the standard model prediction within 2 standard deviations.

Title Searches for Lepton Flavor Violation in the Decays tau(+/-) -> e(+/-)gamma and tau(+/-) -> mu(+/-)gamma Type Journal Article
Year 2010 Publication Physical Review Letters Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. Lett.
Volume 104 Issue 2 Pages (up) 021802 - 7pp

Abstract Searches for lepton-flavor-violating decays of a tau lepton to a lighter mass lepton and a photon have been performed with the entire data set of (963 +/- 7) x 10(6) tau decays collected by the BABAR detector near the Y(4S), Y(3S) and Y(2S) resonances. The searches yield no evidence of signals and we set upper limits on the branching fractions of B(tau(+/-) -> e(+/-)gamma) < 3.3 X 10(-8) and B(tau(+/-) -> mu(+/-)gamma) < 4.4 X 10(-8) at 90% confidence level.
