Title Measurement of D-0-(D)over-bar(0) mixing and CP violation in two-body D-0 decays Type Journal Article

Abstract We present a measurement of D-0-(D) over bar (0) mixing and CP violation using the ratio of lifetimes simultaneously extracted from a sample of D-0 mesons produced through the flavor-tagged process D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+), where D-0 decays to K+pi(+/-), K-K+, or pi(-)pi(+), along with the untagged decays D-0 -> K+pi(+/-) and D-0 -> K-K+. The lifetimes of the CP-even, Cabibbo-suppressed modes K-K+ and pi(-)pi(+) are compared to that of the CP-mixed mode K+pi(+/-) in order to measure y(CP) and Delta Y. We obtain y(CP) = [0.72 +/- 0.18(stat) +/- 0.12(syst)]% and Delta Y = [0.09 +/- 0.26(stat) +/- 0.06(syst)]%, where Delta Y constrains possible CP violation. The y(CP) result excludes the null mixing hypothesis at 3.3 sigma significance. This analysis is based on an integrated luminosity of 468 fb(-1) collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Title Search for t(t)over-bar resonances in the lepton plus jets final state with ATLAS using 4.7 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s=7 TeV Type Journal Article

Abstract A search for new particles that decay into top quark pairs (t (t) over bar) is performed with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC using an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) of proton-proton (pp) collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy root s = 7 TeV. In the t (t) over bar) -> WbWb decay, the lepton plus jets final state is used, where one W boson decays leptonically and the other hadronically. The t (t) over bar) system is reconstructed using both small-radius and large-radius jets, the latter being supplemented by a jet substructure analysis. A search for local excesses in the number of data events compared to the Standard Model expectation in the t (t) over bar) invariant mass spectrum is performed. No evidence for a t (t) over bar) resonance is found and 95% credibility-level limits on the production rate are determined for massive states predicted in two benchmark models. The upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio of a narrow Z' resonance range from 5.1 pb for a boson mass of 0.5 TeV to 0.03 pb for a mass of 3 TeV. A narrow leptophobic topcolor Z' resonance with a mass below 1.74 TeV is excluded. Limits are also derived for a broad color-octet resonance with m 15.3%. A Kaluza-Klein excitation of the gluon in a Randall-Sundrum model is excluded for masses below 2.07 TeV.

Title Search for dark matter in events with a Z boson and missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 90 Issue 1 Pages (up) 012004 - 21pp
Keywords
Abstract A search is presented for production of dark-matter particles recoiling against a leptonically decaying Z boson in 20.3 fb(-1) of pp collisions at root s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with large missing transverse momentum and two oppositely charged electrons or muons consistent with the decay of a Z boson are analyzed. No excess above the Standard Model prediction is observed. Limits are set on the mass scale of the contact interaction as a function of the dark-matter particle mass using an effective field theory description of the interaction of dark matter with quarks or with Z bosons. Limits are also set on the coupling and mediator mass of a model in which the interaction is mediated by a scalar particle.

Title Measurement of inclusive double-differential nu(mu) charged-current cross section with improved acceptance in the T2K off-axis near detector Type Journal Article
Year 2018 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 98 Issue 1 Pages (up) 012004 - 18pp

Abstract We report a measurement of the flux-integrated cross section for inclusive muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon. The double-differential measurements are given as a function of the muon momentum and angle. Relative to our previous publication on this topic, these results have an increased angular acceptance and higher statistics. The data sample presented here corresponds to 5.7 x 10(20) protons on target. The total flux-integrated cross section is measured to be (6.950 +/- 0.662) x 10(-39) cm(2) nucleon(-1) and is consistent with our simulation.

Title Observation of a new Xi(0)(b) state Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physical Review D Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. D
Volume 103 Issue 1 Pages (up) 012004 - 17pp
Keywords
Abstract Using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb(-1), the observation of a new excited Xi(0)(b) resonance decaying to the Xi(-)(b)pi(+) final state is presented. The state, referred to as Xi(b) (6227)(0), has a measured mass and natural width of m(Xi(b)(6227)(0)) = 6227.1(-1.5)(+1.4) +/- 0.5 MeV and Gamma(Xi(b)(6227)(0)) = 18.6(-4.1)(+5.0) +/- 1.4 MeV, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The production rate of the Xi(b)(6227)(0) state relative to that of the Xi(-)(b) baryon in the kinematic region 2 < eta < 5 and p(T) < 30 GeV is measured to be f(Xi b(6227)0)/f(Xi b)(-) B(Xi(b)(6227)(0) -> Xi(-)(b)pi(+)) = 0.045 +/- 0.008 +/- 0.004, where B(Xi(b)(6227)(0) -> Xi(-)(b)pi(+)) is the branching fraction of the decay, and f(Xi b(6227)0) and f(Xi b-) represent fragmentation fractions. Improved measurements of the mass and natural width of the previously observedf Xi(b)(6227)(-) state, along with the mass of the Xi(-)(b) baryon, are also reported. Both measurements are significantly more precise than, and consistent with, previously reported values.
