Abstract: We analyze the decay B-0 -> K+ pi(-) pi(0) with a sample of 4.54 x 10(8) B (B) over bar events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC, and extract the complex amplitudes of seven interfering resonances over the Dalitz plot. These results are combined with amplitudes measured in B-0 -> K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-) decays to construct isospin amplitudes from B-0 -> K* pi and B-0 -> rho K decays. We measure the phase of the isospin amplitude Phi(3/2), useful in constraining the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle gamma and evaluate a CP rate asymmetry sum rule sensitive to the presence of new physics operators. We measure direct CP violation in B-0 -> K*(+) pi(-) decays at the level of 3 sigma when measurements from both B-0 -> K+ pi(-) pi(0) and B-0 -> K-S(0) pi(+) pi(-) decays are combined.

Abstract: We present a new framework for the extraction of the strong coupling from hadronic tau decays through finite-energy sum rules. Our focus is on the small, but still significant nonperturbative effects that, in principle, affect both the central value and the systematic error. We employ a quantitative model in order to accommodate violations of quark-hadron duality, and enforce a consistent treatment of the higher-dimensional contributions of the operator product expansion to our sum rules. Using 1998 OPAL data for the nonstrange isovector vector and axial-vector spectral functions, we find the n(f) = 3 values alpha(s)(m(tau)(2)) = 0.307 +/- 0.019 in fixed-order perturbation theory, and 0.322 +/- 0.026 in contour-improved perturbation theory. For comparison, the original OPAL analysis of the same data led to the values 0.324 +/- 0.014 (fixed order) and 0.348 +/- 0.021 (contour improved).

Abstract: The resolution of Dyson-Schwinger equations leads to the freezing of the QCD running coupling (effective charge) in the infrared, which is best understood as a dynamical generation of a gluon mass function, giving rise to a momentum dependence which is free from infrared divergences. We calculate the interquark static potential for heavy mesons by assuming that it is given by a massive One Gluon Exchange interaction and compare with phenomenologyical fits inspired by lattice QCD. We apply these potential forms to the description of quarkonia and conclude that, even though some aspects of the confinement mechanism are absent in the Dyson-Schwinger formalism, the spectrum can be reasonably reproduced. We discuss possible explanations for this outcome.

Abstract: We study the radiative decay properties of the charmoniumlike X, Y, and Z mesons generated dynamically from vector-meson-vector-meson interaction in the framework of a unitarized hidden-gauge formalism. In the present work, we calculate the one-and two-photon decay widths of the hidden-charm Y(3940), Z(3930) [or X(3915)], and X(4160) mesons in the framework of the vector-meson dominance formalism. We obtain good agreement with the experiment in case of the two-photon width of the X(3915), which we associate to the 2(+) resonance that we find at 3922 MeV. However, in view of discrepancies with a different approach that also considers the resonances as molecular states, we urge independent calculations along the same lines to further clarify the issue.

Abstract: We investigate flavor violating decays of the long-lived lightest slepton and the tau lepton in the coannihilation region of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with a seesaw mechanism to generate neutrino masses. We consider a situation where the mass difference between the lightest neutralino, as the lightest supersymmetric particle, and the lightest slepton, as the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle, is smaller than the mass of tau lepton. In this situation, the lifetime of the lightest slepton is very long and it is determined by lepton flavor violating (LFV) couplings because the slepton mainly consists of the lighter stau and the flavor conserving 2-body decay is kinematically forbidden. We show that the lifetime can change many orders of magnitude by varying the Yukawa couplings entering the seesaw mechanism. We also show that the branching ratios of LFV tau decays are strongly correlated with the lightest slepton lifetime. Therefore the branching ratios of LFV tau decays can be determined or constrained by measuring the slepton lifetime at the LHC experiment.
