Abstract: We discuss expectations for the total and inelastic cross sections at LHC CM energies root s = 7 TeV and 14 TeV obtained in an eikonal minijet model augmented by soft gluon k(t)-resummation, which we describe in some detail. We present a band of predictions which encompass recent LHC data and suggest that the inelastic cross section described by two-channel eikonal models include only uncorrelated processes. We show that this interpretation of the model is supported by the LHC data.

Molina, R., Nagahiro, H., Hosaka, A., & Oset, E. (2011). Decay of vector-vector resonances into gamma and a pseudoscalar meson. Phys. Rev. D, 83(9), 094030–12pp.
Abstract: We study the decay of dynamically generated resonances from the interaction of two vectors into a gamma and a pseudoscalar meson. The dynamics requires anomalous terms involving vertices with two vectors and a pseudoscalar, which renders it special. We compare our result with data on K-2*(+) (1430) -> K+ gamma and K-2*(0) (1430) -> K-0 gamma and find a good agreement with the data for the K-2*(+) (1430) case and a width considerably smaller than the upper bound measured for the K-2*(0) (1430) meson. We also investigate the decay into pi(+) gamma of one a(2) state, tentatively associated to the a(2)(1320), obtaining qualitative agreement with data.

Nieves, J., Pich, A., & Ruiz Arriola, E. (2011). Large-N(C) properties of the rho and f(0)(600) mesons from unitary resonance chiral dynamics. Phys. Rev. D, 84(9), 096002–20pp.
Abstract: We construct pi pi amplitudes that fulfill exact elastic unitarity, account for one-loop chiral perturbation theory contributions and include all 1/N(C) leading terms, with the only limitation of considering just the lowest-lying nonet of exchanged resonances. Within such a scheme, the N(C) dependence of sigma and rho masses and widths is discussed. Robust conclusions are drawn in the case of the rho resonance, confirming that it is a stable meson in the limit of a large number of QCD colors, N(C). Less definitive conclusions are reached in the scalar-isoscalar sector. With the present quality of data, we cannot firmly conclude whether or not the N(C) = 3 f(0)(600) resonance completely disappears at large N(C) or if it has a subdominant component in its structure, which would become dominant for a number of quark colors sufficiently large.

Olmo, G. J., & Sanchis-Alepuz, H. (2011). Hamiltonian formulation of Palatini f(R) theories a la Brans-Dicke theory. Phys. Rev. D, 83(10), 104036–11pp.
Abstract: We study the Hamiltonian formulation of f(R) theories of gravity both in metric and in Palatini formalism using their classical equivalence with Brans-Dicke theories with a nontrivial potential. The Palatini case, which corresponds to the omega = -3/2 Brans-Dicke theory, requires special attention because of new constraints associated with the scalar field, which is nondynamical. We derive, compare, and discuss the constraints and evolution equations for the omega = -3/2 and omega not equal -3/2 cases. Based on the properties of the constraint and evolution equations, we find that, contrary to certain claims in the literature, the Cauchy problem for the omega = -3/2 case is well formulated and there is no reason to believe that it is not well posed in general.

Abstract: We briefly review the need to perform renormalization of inflationary perturbations to properly work out the physical power spectra. We also summarize the basis of (momentum-space) renormalization in curved spacetime and address several misconceptions found in recent literature on this subject.

Schwetz, T., Tortola, M., & Valle, J. W. F. (2011). Where we are on theta(13): addendum to 'Global neutrino data and recent reactor fluxes: status of three-flavor oscillation parameters'. New J. Phys., 13, 109401–5pp.
Abstract: In this addendum to Schwetz et al (2011 New J. Phys. 13 063004), we consider the recent results from long-baseline nu(mu) -> nu(e) searches at the Tokai to Kamioka (T2K) and Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search (MINOS) experiments and investigate their implications for the mixing angle theta(13) and the leptonic Dirac CP phase delta. By combining the 2.5 sigma indication for a nonzero value of theta(13) coming from the T2K data with global neutrino oscillation data, we obtain a significance for theta(13) > 0 of about 3 sigma with best fit points sin(2) theta(13) = 0.013 (0.016) for normal (inverted) neutrino mass ordering. These results depend somewhat on assumptions concerning the analysis of reactor neutrino data.

Measurement of underlying event characteristics using charged particles in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 900 GeV and 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector. Phys. Rev. D, 83(11), 112001–34pp.
Abstract: Measurements of charged particle distributions, sensitive to the underlying event, have been performed with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurements are based on data collected using a minimum-bias trigger to select proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 900 GeV and 7 TeV. The "underlying event'' is defined as those aspects of a hadronic interaction attributed not to the hard scattering process, but rather to the accompanying interactions of the rest of the proton. Three regions are defined in azimuthal angle with respect to the highest transverse momentum charged particle in the event, such that the region transverse to the dominant momentum-flow is most sensitive to the underlying event. In each of these regions, distributions of the charged particle multiplicity, transverse momentum density, and average p(T) are measured. The data show generally higher underlying event activity than that predicted by Monte Carlo models tuned to pre-LHC data.

Search for pair production of first or second generation leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Phys. Rev. D, 83(11), 112006–24pp.
Abstract: This paper describes searches for the pair production of first or second generation scalar leptoquarks using 35 pb(-1) of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at root s = 7 TeV. Leptoquarks are searched in events with two oppositely-charged muons or electrons and at least two jets, and in events with one muon or electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. After event selection, the observed yields are consistent with the predicted backgrounds. Leptoquark production is excluded at the 95% CL for masses M-LQ < 376 (319) GeV and M-LQ < 422 (362) GeV for first and second generation scalar leptoquarks, respectively, when assuming the branching fraction of a leptoquark to a charged lepton is equal to 1.0 (0.5).

Abstract: The Z -> tau tau cross section is measured with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in four different final states determined by the decay modes of the tau leptons: muon-hadron, electron-hadron, electron-muon, and muon-muon. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1), at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV. Cross sections are measured separately for each final state in fiducial regions of high detector acceptance, as well as in the full phase space, over the mass region 66-116 GeV. The individual cross sections are combined and the product of the total Z production cross section and Z -> tau tau branching fraction is measured to be 0.97 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) +/- 0: 03(lumi) nb, in agreement with next-to-next-to-leading order calculations.

BABAR Collaboration(Lees, J. P. et al), Martinez-Vidal, F., & Oyanguren, A. (2011). Branching fraction measurements of the color-suppressed decays B-bar(0) to D((*)0)pi(0), D((*)0)eta, D((*)0)omega, and D((*)0)eta ' and measurement of the polarization in the decay B-bar(0) -> D((*)0)omega. Phys. Rev. D, 84(11), 112007–25pp.
Abstract: We report updated branching fraction measurements of the color-suppressed decays (B) over bar (0) -> D(0)pi(0), D*(0)pi(0), D(0)eta, D*(0)eta, D(0)omega, D*(0)omega, D(0)eta', and D*(0)eta'. We measure the branching fractions (x 10(-4)): B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)pi(0)) = 2.69 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.13, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)pi(0)) = 3.05 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.28, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)eta) = 2.53 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.11, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)eta) = 2.69 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.23, B((B) over bar (0) -> D(0)eta) = 2.57 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.14, B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(0)omega) = 4.55 +/- 0.24 +/- 0.39, B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(0)omega) = 1.48 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.07, and B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(0)eta') = 1.49 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.15. We also present the first measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction of the decay channel D*(0)omega, f(L) = (66.5 +/- 4.7 +/- 1.5)%. In the above, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The results are based on a sample of (454 +/- 5) x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Gamma(4S) resonance, with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at SLAC. The measurements are the most precise determinations of these quantities from a single experiment. They are compared to theoretical predictions obtained by factorization, Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and perturbative QCD (pQCD). We find that the presence of final state interactions is favored and the measurements are in better agreement with SCET than with pQCD.
