Abstract: A search is presented for the production of a single top quark via left-handed flavour-changing neutralcurrent (FCNC) interactions of a top quark, a gluon and an up or charm quark. Two production processes are considered: u + g -> t and c + g -> t. The analysis is based on proton-proton collision data taken at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). Events with exactly one electron or muon, exactly one b-tagged jet and missing transverse momentum are selected, resembling the decay products of a singly produced top quark. Neural networks based on kinematic variables differentiate between events from the two signal processes and events from background processes. The measured data are consistent with the background-only hypothesis, and limits are set on the production cross-sections of the signal processes: sigma(u + g -> t) x B(t -> Wb) x B(W -> l nu) < 3.0 pb and sigma(c + g -> t) xB(t -> Wb) xB(W -> l nu) < 4.7pb at the 95% confidence level, with B(W -> l nu) = 0.325 being the sum of branching ratios of all three leptonic decay modes of the W boson. Based on the framework of an effective field theory, the cross-section limits are translated into limits on the strengths of the tug and tcg couplings occurring in the theory: vertical bar C-uG(ut)vertical bar Lambda(2) < 0.057 TeV-2 and vertical bar C-uG(ct)vertical bar Lambda(2) < 0.14 TeV-2. These bounds correspond to limits on the branching ratios of FCNC-induced top-quark decays: B(t -> u + g) < 0.61 x 10(-4) and B(t -> c + g) < 3.7 x 10(-4).

Abstract: Measurements of the ZZ and WW final states in the mass range above the 2m(Z) and 2m(W) thresholds provide a unique opportunity to measure the off-shell coupling strength of the Higgs boson. This paper presents constraints on the off-shell Higgs boson event yields normalised to the Standard Model prediction (signal strength) in the ZZ -> 4l, ZZ -> 2l2 nu and WW -> e nu μnu final states. The result is based on pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) at a collision energy of root s = 8 TeV. Using the CLs method, the observed 95 % confidence level (CL) upper limit on the off-shell signal strength is in the range 5.1-8.6, with an expected range of 6.7-11.0. In each case the range is determined by varying the unknown gg -> ZZ and gg -> WW background K-factor from higher-order quantum chromodynamics corrections between half and twice the value of the known signal K-factor. Assuming the relevant Higgs boson couplings are independent of the energy scale of the Higgs boson production, a combination with the on-shell measurements yields an observed (expected) 95 % CL upper limit on Gamma(H)/Gamma(SM)(H) in the range 4.5-7.5 (6.5-11.2) using the same variations of the background K-factor. Assuming that the unknown gg -> VV background K-factor is equal to the signal K-factor, this translates into an observed (expected) 95 % CL upper limit on the Higgs boson total width of 22.7 (33.0) MeV.

Abstract: Given the increasing number of experimental data, together with the precise measurement of the properties of the Higgs boson at the LHC, the parameter space of supersymmetric models starts to be constrained. We carry out a detailed analysis of this issue in the framework of the μnu SSM. In this model, three families of right-handed neutrino superfields are present in order to solve the μproblem and simultaneously reproduce neutrino physics. The new couplings and sneutrino vacuum expectation values in the μnu SSM induce new mixing of states, and, in particular, the three right sneutrinos can be substantially mixed with the neutral Higgses. After diagonalization, the masses of the corresponding three singlet-like eigenstates can be smaller or larger than the mass of the Higgs, or even degenerated with it. We analyze whether these situations are still compatible with the experimental results. To address it we scan the parameter space of the Higgs sector of the model. In particular, we sample the μnu SSM using a powerful likelihood data-driven method, paying special attention to satisfy the constraints coming from Higgs sector measurements/limits (using HiggsBounds and HiggsSignals), as well as a class of flavor observables such as B and μdecays, while muon g-2 is briefly discussed. We find that large regions of the parameter space of the μnu SSM are viable, containing an interesting phenomenology that could be probed at the LHC.

Abstract: A search for Higgs boson decays to invisible particles is performed using 20,3 of fb(-1) collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded by the ArL As detector at the Large IHIadron Collider. The process considered is Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V = W or Z) that decays hadronically, resulting in events with two or more jets and large missing transverse momentum. No excess of candidates is observed in the data over the background expectation. The results are used to constrain V H production followed by H decaying to invisible particles for the Higgs boson mass range 115 < m(H) < 300 GeV. The 95 % confidence-level observed upper limit on sigma vH x BR(H -> inv.) varies from 1.6 pb at 115 GeV to 0.13 ph at 300 GeV. Assuming Standard Model production and including the gg -> H contribution as signal, the results also lead to an observed upper limit of 78 c/c at 95 % confidence level on the branching ratio of Higgs bosons decays to invisible particles at a mass of 125 GeV.

Abstract: We show how minimally-coupled matter fields of arbitrary spin, when coupled to Ricci-based gravity theories, develop non-trivial effective interactions that can be treated perturbatively only below a characteristic high-energy scale . We then use this interactions to set bounds on the high-energy scale that controls departures of Ricci-Based Gravity theories from General Relativity. Particularly, for Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity we obtain the strong bound vertical bar kappa vertical bar<10(-26)m(5)kg(-1)s(-2).
