Abstract: A search for the rare two-body charmless baryonic decay B+ -> p (Lambda) over bar is performed with pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. An excess of B+ -> p (Lambda) over bar candidates with respect to background expectations is seen with a statistical significance of 4.1 standard deviations, and constitutes the first evidence for this decay. The branching fraction, measured using the B+ -> K-S(0)pi(+) decay for normalisation, is B(B+ -> p (Lambda) over bar) = (2.4(-0.8)(+)(+1.0) +/- 0.3) x 10(-7), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract: A new experimental setup to measure prompt-delayed gamma-ray coincidences from isotopically identified fission fragments, over a wide time range of 100 ns-200 μs, is presented. The fission fragments were isotopically identified, on an event-by-event basis, using the VAMOS++ large acceptance spectrometer. The prompt gamma rays emitted at the target position and corresponding delayed gamma rays emitted at the focal plane of the spectrometer were detected using, respectively, thirty two crystals of the AGATA gamma-ray tracking array and seven EXOGAM HPGe Clover detectors. Fission fragments produced in fusion and transfer-induced fission reactions, using a U-238 beam at an energy of 6.2MeV/u impinging on a Be-9 target, were used to characterize and qualify the performance of the detection system.

Abstract: Supersymmetric theories supplemented by an underlying flavor-symmetry G(f) provide a rich playground for model building aimed at explaining the flavor structure of the Standard Model. In the case where supersymmetry breaking is mediated by gravity, the soft-breaking Lagrangian typically exhibits large tree-level flavor violating e ff ects, even if it stems from an ultraviolet flavor-conserving origin. Building on previous work, we continue our phenomenological analysis of these models with a particular emphasis on leptonicflavor observables. We consider three representative models which aim to explain the flavor structure of the lepton sector, with symmetry groups G(f) = Delta (27), A(4); and S-3.

Abstract: Angular distributions of.-rays for selected transitions in Ar-40,Ar-41,Ar-42 isotopes have been studied with the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer coupled to the CLARA gamma array. These transitions were populated in Ar isotopes reached via neutron transfer in the Ar-40 + Pb-208 reaction. By comparison with the shape of the experimental angular distribution of the known E2 transitions we established more firmly the spin and parity of excited states. In particular, in Ar-41 for the (11/2(-)) state through the (11/2(-)) -> 7/2(-) transition whose structure was discussed in terms of a phonon-fermion coupled state. The comparison with the expected fully aligned spin indicated that a high level of spin alignment has been reached.

Abstract: We perform a comprehensive analysis of scalar contributions in b -> c tau nu transitions including the latest measurements of R(D-(*)), the q(2) differential distributions in B -> D-(*) tau nu the tau polarization asymmetry for B -> D*tau nu, and the bound derived from the total width of the B-c meson. We find that scalar contributions with the simultaneous presence of both left- and right-handed couplings to quarks can explain the available data, specifically R(D-(*)) together with the measured differential distributions. However, the constraints from the total B-c width present a slight tension with the current data on B -> D*tau nu in this scenario, preferring smaller values for R(D*). We discuss possibilities to disentangle scalar new physics from other new-physics scenarios like the presence of only a left-handed vector current, via additional observables in B -> D(*)tau nu decays or additional decay modes like the baryonic Lambda(b) -> Lambda(c)tau nu and the inclusive B -> X-c tau nu decays. We also analyze scalar contributions in b -> u tau nu transitions, including the latest measurements of B -> tau nu providing predictions for Lambda(b) -> p tau nu and B -> pi tau nu decays. The potential complementarity between the b -> u and b -> c sectors is finally investigated once assumptions about the flavour structure of the underlying theory are made.

Abstract: The Inverse Seesaw naturally explains the smallness of neutrino masses via an approximate B-L symmetry broken only by a correspondingly small parameter. In this work the possible dynamical generation of the Inverse Seesaw neutrino mass mechanism from the spontaneous breaking of a gauged U(1) B-L symmetry is investigated. Interestingly, the Inverse Seesaw pattern requires a chiral content such that anomaly cancellation predicts the existence of extra fermions belonging to a dark sector with large, non-trivial, charges under the U(1) B-L. We investigate the phenomenology associated to these new states and find that one of them is a viable dark matter candidate with mass around the TeV scale, whose interaction with the Standard Model is mediated by the Z' boson associated to the gauged U(1) B-L symmetry. Given the large charges required for anomaly cancellation in the dark sector, the B-L Z' interacts preferentially with this dark sector rather than with the Standard Model. This suppresses the rate at direct detection searches and thus alleviates the constraints on Z'-mediated dark matter relic abundance. The collider phenomenology of this elusive Z' is also discussed.

Abstract: The discovery of the D*(s0)(2317) and D-s1(2460) resonances in the charmed-strange meson spectra revealed that formerly successful constituent quark models lose predictability in the vicinity of two-meson thresholds. The emergence of non-negligible effects due to meson loops requires an explicit evaluation of the interplay between Q (q) over bar and (Q (q) over bar)(q (q) over bar) Fock components. In contrast to the c (s) over bar sector, there is no experimental evidence of J(P) = 0(+), 1(+) bottom-strange states yet. Motivated by recent lattice studies, in this work the heavy-quark partners of the D*(s0)(2317) and D-s1(2460) states are analyzed within a heavy meson chiral unitary scheme. As a novelty, the coupling between the constituent quark-model P-wave (B) over bar (s) scalar and axial mesons and the (B) over bar (()*()) K channels is incorporated employing an effective interaction, consistent with heavy-quark spin symmetry, constrained by the lattice energy levels.

Abstract: A measurement is presented of decay-time-dependent CP violation in the decays B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0) and B-0 -> psi(2S) K-S(0), where the J/psi is reconstructed from two electrons and the psi(2S) from two muons. The analysis uses a sample of pp collision data recorded with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1). The CP-violation observables are measured to be C(B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0)) = 0.12 +/- 0.07 +/- 0.02, S(B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0)) = 0.83 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.01, C(B-0 -> psi(2S) K-S(0)) = -0.05 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.01, S(B-0 -> psi(2S) K-S(0)) = 0.84 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.01, where C describes CP violation in the direct decay, and S describes CP violation in the interference between the amplitudes for the direct decay and for the decay after B-0-(B) over bar (0) oscillation. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The two sets of results are compatible with the previous LHCb measurement using B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0) decays, where the J/psi meson was reconstructed from two muons. The averages of all three sets of LHCb results are C(B-0 -> [c (c) over bar] K-S(0)) = -0.017 +/- 0.029, S(B-0 -> [c (c) over bar] K-S(0)) = 0.760 +/- 0.034, under the assumption that higher-order contributions to the decay amplitudes are negligible. The uncertainties include statistical and systematic contributions.

Abstract: A measurement of the time-integrated CP asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D-0 -> K- K+ is performed using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb(-1), collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The flavour of the charm meson at production is determined from the charge of the pion in D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+) and D*(-) -> (D) over bar (0)pi(-) decays. The time-integrated CP asymmetry A(CP)(K- K+) is obtained assuming negligible CP violation in charm mixing and in Cabibbo-favoured D-0 -> K- pi(+), D+ -> K- pi(+) pi(+) and D+ -> (K) over bar (0)pi(+) decays used as calibration channels. It is found to be A(CP)(K- K+) = (0.14 +/- 0.15 (stat) +/- 0.10 (syst))%. A combination of this result with previous LHCb measurements yields A(CP)(K- K+) = (0.04 +/- 0.12 (stat) +/- 0.10 (syst))%, A(CP)(pi(-) pi(+)) = (0.07 +/- 0.14 (stat) +/- 0.11 (syst))%. These are the most precise measurements from a single experiment. The result for ACP(K- K+) is the most precise determination of a time-integrated CPasymmetry in the charm sector to date, and neither measurement shows evidence of CP asymmetry.
