Title Nonperturbative study of the four gluon vertex Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 059 - 32pp
  Keywords Nonperturbative Effects; QCD; Confinement
Abstract In this paper we study the nonperturbative structure of the SU(3) four-gluon vertex in the Landau gauge, concentrating on contributions quadratic in the metric. We employ an approximation scheme where “one-loop” diagrams are computed using fully dressed gluon and ghost propagators, and tree-level vertices. When a suitable kinematical configuration depending on a single momentum scale p is chosen, only two structures emerge: the tree-level four-gluon vertex, and a tensor orthogonal to it. A detailed numerical analysis reveals that the form factor associated with this latter tensor displays a change of sign (zero-crossing) in the deep infrared, and finally diverges logarithmically. The origin of this characteristic behavior is proven to be entirely due to the masslessness of the ghost propagators forming the corresponding ghost-loop diagram, in close analogy to a similar effect established for the three-gluon vertex. However, in the case at hand, and under the approximations employed, this particular divergence does not affect the form factor proportional to the tree-level tensor, which remains finite in the entire range of momenta, and deviates moderately from its naive tree-level value. It turns out that the kinematic configuration chosen is ideal for carrying out lattice simulations, because it eliminates from the connected Green's function all one-particle reducible contributions, projecting out the genuine one-particle irreducible vertex. Motivated by this possibility, we discuss in detail how a hypothetical lattice measurement of this quantity would compare to the results presented here, and the potential interference from an additional tensorial structure, allowed by Bose symmetry, but not encountered within our scheme.

Title Measurement of the production cross-section of psi(2S) -> J/psi(-> mu(+)mu(-))pi(+) pi(-) in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV at ATLAS Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 079 - 49pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract The prompt and non-prompt production cross-sections for psi(2S) mesons are measured using 2.1 fb(-1) of pp collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The measurement exploits the psi(2S) --> J/psi(--> mu(+)mu(-)) pi(+)pi(-) decay mode, and probes psi(2S) mesons with transverse momenta in the range 10 <= p(T) < 100 GeV and rapidity |y| < 2.0. The results are compared to other measurements of psi(2S) production at the LHC and to various theoretical models for prompt and non-prompt quarkonium production.

Title Search for CP violation using T-odd correlations in D-0 -> K+K-pi(+)pi(-) decays Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 10 Issue 10 Pages 005 - 21pp
Keywords CP violation; Charm physics; Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Flavor physics
Abstract A search for CP violation using T-odd correlations is performed using the four-body D-0 -> K+K-pi(+)pi(-) decay, selected from semileptonic B decays. The data sample corresponds to integrated luminosities of 1.0 fb(-1) and 2.0 fb(-1) recorded at the centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, respectively. The CP-violating asymmetry alpha(T-odd)(CP) is measured to be (0.18 +/- 0.29 (stat) +/- 0.04 (syst))%. Searches for CP violation in different regions of phase space of the four-body decay, and as a function of the D-0 decay time, are also presented. No significant deviation from the CP conservation hypothesis is found.

Title Search for squarks and gluinos with the ATLAS detector in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum using root s=8 TeV proton-proton collision data Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 176 - 52pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering; Supersymmetry
Abstract A search for squarks and gluinos in final states containing high-pT jets, missing transverse momentum and no electrons or muons is presented. The data were recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS experiment in root s = 8 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, with a total integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). Results are interpreted in a variety of simplified and specific supersymmetry-breaking models assuming that R-parity is conserved and that the lightest neutralino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. An exclusion limit at the 95% confidence level on the mass of the gluino is set at 1330 GeV for a simplified model incorporating only a gluino and the lightest neutralino. For a simplified model involving the strong production of first- and second-generation squarks, squark masses below 850 GeV (440 GeV) are excluded for a massless lightest neutralino, assuming mass degenerate ( single light-flavour) squarks. In mSUGRA/CMSSM models with tan beta = 30, A(0) = -2m(0) and μ> 0, squarks and gluinos of equal mass are excluded for masses below 1700 GeV. Additional limits are set for non-universal Higgs mass models with gaugino mediation and for simplified models involving the pair production of gluinos, each decaying to a top squark and a top quark, with the top squark decaying to a charm quark and a neutralino. These limits extend the region of supersymmetric parameter space excluded by previous searches with the ATLAS detector.

Title Measurement of the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum distribution in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 09 Issue 9 Pages 145 - 47pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract This paper describes a measurement of the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum spectrum using ATLAS proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 7TeV at the LHC. The measurement is performed in the Z/gamma* -> e(+)e(-) and Z/gamma* -> mu(+)mu(-) channels, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1). Normalized differential cross sections as a function of the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum are measured for transverse momenta up to 800 GeV. The measurement is performed inclusively for Z/gamma* rapidities up to 2.4, as well as in three rapidity bins. The channel results are combined, compared to perturbative and resummed QCD calculations and used to constrain the parton shower parameters of Monte Carlo generators.

Title Search for strong production of supersymmetric particles in final states with missing transverse momentum and at least three b-jets at root s=8 TeV proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 10 Issue 10 Pages 024 - 53pp
  Keywords Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Abstract This paper reports the results of a search for strong production of supersymmetric particles in 20.1 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search is performed separately in events with either zero or at least one high-p (T) lepton (electron or muon), large missing transverse momentum, high jet multiplicity and at least three jets identified as originated from the fragmentation of a b-quark. No excess is observed with respect to the Standard Model predictions. The results are interpreted in the context of several supersymmetric models involving gluinos and scalar top and bottom quarks, as well as a mSUGRA/CMSSM model. Gluino masses up to 1340 GeV are excluded, depending on the model, significantly extending the previous ATLAS limits.

Title Measurement of the CKM angle gamma using B-+/- -> DK +/- with D -> K-S(0)pi(+)pi(-), (KSK+K-)-K-0 decays Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.

Keywords CP violation; CKM angle gamma; Hadron-Hadron Scattering; B physics; Flavor physics
  Abstract A binned Dalitz plot analysis of B-+/- -> DK +/- decays, with D -> K-S(0) pi(+)pi(-) and D -> K0 S K + K -, is performed to measure the C P -violating observables x(+/-) and y(+/-), which are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle gamma. The analysis exploits a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb experiment. Measurements from CLEO-c of the variation of the strong-interaction phase of the D decay over the Dalitz plot are used as inputs. The values of the parameters are found to be x(+) = (-7.7 +/- 2.4 +/- 1.0 +/- 0.4) x 10(-2), x(-) = (2.5 +/- 2.5 +/- 1.0 +/- 0.5) x 10(-2), y(+) = (-2.2 +/- 2.5 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0) x 10-2, and y(-) = (7.5 +/- 2.9 +/- 0.5 +/- 1.4) x 10(-2). The first, second, and third uncertainties are the statistical, the experimental systematic, and that associated with the precision of the strong-phase parameters. These are the most precise measurements of these observables and correspond to +/- = (62(-14)(+15))degrees, with a second solution at gamma -> gamma + 180 degrees, and r(B) = 0.080(-0.021)(+0.019), where r(B) is the ratio between the suppressed and favoured B decay amplitudes.

Title Measurement of the chi(b) (3 P) mass and of the relative rate of chi(b1) (1 P) and chi(b2) (1 P) production Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.

Abstract The production of chi(b) mesons in proton-proton collisions is studied using a data sample collected by the LHCb detector, at centre-of-mass energies of root s = 7 and 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1). The chi(b) mesons are identified through their decays to Upsilon(1 S)gamma and Upsilon(2 S)gamma using photons that converted to e(+)e (-) pairs in the detector. The relative prompt production rate of chi(b1)(1 P) and chi(b2)(1 P) mesons is measured as a function of the Upsilon(1 S) transverse momentum in the chi(b) rapidity range 2.0 < y < 4.5. A precise measurement of the chi(b) (3 P) mass is also performed. Assuming a mass splitting between the chi(b1)(3 P) and the chi(b2)(3 P) states of 10.5 MeV/c(2), the measured mass of the chi(b1)(3 P) meson is m (chi(b1)(3 P)) = 10515.7(-3.9)(+2.2)(stat)(-2.1)(+1.5)(syst) MeV/c(2).

Abstract A search for CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed D (+/-) -> aEuro parts per thousand K (S) (0) K (+/-) and D (s) (+/-) -> aEuro parts per thousand K (S) (0) pi (+/-) decays is performed using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb, recorded by the LHCb experiment. The individual CP-violating asymmetries are measured to be <Equation ID=“Equa”> <MediaObject> </MediaObject> </Equation> assuming that CP violation in the Cabibbo-favoured decays is negligible. A combination of the measured asymmetries for the four decay modes D ((s)) (+/-) -> aEuro parts per thousand K (S) (0) K (+/-) and D ((s)) (+/-) -> aEuro parts per thousand K (S) (0) pi (+/-) gives the sum <Equation ID=“Equb”> <MediaObject> </MediaObject> </Equation> In all cases, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results represent the most precise measurements of these asymmetries to date and show no evidence for CP violation.
