Abstract: Left-right symmetric extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model can explain neutrino data and have potentially interesting phenomenology beyond that found in minimal SUSY seesaw models. Here we study a SUSY model in which the left-right symmetry is broken by triplets at a high scale, but significantly below the GUT scale. Sparticle spectra in this model differ from the usual constrained MSSM expectations and these changes affect the relic abundance of the lightest neutralino. We discuss changes for the standard stau (and stop) co-annihilation, the Higgs funnel and the focus point regions. The model has potentially large lepton flavour violation in both, left and right, scalar leptons and thus allows, in principle, also for flavoured co-annihilation. We also discuss lepton flavour signals due to violating decays of the second lightest neutralino at the LHC, which can be as large as 20 fb(-1) at root s = 14 TeV.

Abstract: NEXT-DEMO is a prototype of NEXT (Neutrino Experiment with Xenon TPC), an experiment to search for neutrino-less double beta decay using a 100 kg radio-pure, 90 % enriched (136Xe isotope) high-pressure gaseous xenon TPC with electroluminescence readout. The detector is based on a PMT plane for energy measurements and a SiPM tracking plane for topological event filtering. The experiment will be located in the Canfranc Underground Laboratory in Spain. Front-end electronics, trigger and data-acquisition systems (DAQ) have been built. The DAQ is an implementation of the Scalable Readout System (RD51 collaboration) based on FPGA. Our approach for trigger is to have a distributed and reconfigurable system in the DAQ itself. Moreover, the trigger allows on-line triggering based on the detection of primary or secondary scintillation light, or a combination of both, that arrives to the PMT plane.

Abstract: We propose applications of radioactive ion beam facilities to investigate physics beyond the Standard Model. In particular, we focus upon the search for sterile neutrinos and the possible measurement of coherent neutrino-nucleus scattering, by means of a low-energy beta beam with a Lorentz boost factor gamma approximate to 1. In both cases, we consider Li-8 and B-8 ions as neutrino sources. In the considered setup, the collected radioactive ions are sent inside a 4 pi detector. For the first application, we provide the number of events associated with neutrino-nucleus coherent scattering, when the detector is filled with a noble liquid. For the sterile search, we consider that the spherical detector is filled with a liquid scintillator, and that the neutrino detection channel is inverse beta decay. We provide the exclusion curves for the sterile neutrino mixing parameters, based upon the 3 _ 1 formalism, depending upon the achievable ion intensity. Our results are obtained both from total rates, and by including spectral information with binning in energy and in distance. The proposed experiment represents a possible alternative to clarify the current anomalies observed in neutrino experiments.

Abstract: Magnetic monopoles have been a subject of interest since Dirac established the relation between the existence of monopoles and charge quantization. The intense experimental search carried thus far has not met with success. The Large Hadron Collider is reaching energies never achieved before allowing the search for exotic particles in the TeV mass range. In a continuing effort to discover these rare particles we propose here other ways to detect them. We study the observability of monopoles and monopolium, a monopole-antimonopole bound state, at the Large Hadron Collider in the gamma gamma channel for monopole masses in the range 500-1000 GeV. We conclude that LHC is an ideal machine to discover monopoles with masses below 1 TeV at present running energies and with 5 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity.

Abstract: Two metallacyclic complexes of general formula Na-8[(M2L3)-L-II]center dot xH(2)O [M = Ni (4) and Co (5) with x = 15 (4) and 17 (5)] have been self-assembled in aqueous solution from N,N'-1,3-phenylenebis(oxamic acid) (H4L) and M2+ ions in a ligand/metal molar ratio of 3 : 2 in the presence of NaOH acting as base. X-Ray structural analyses of 4 and 5 show triple-stranded, dinuclear anions of the meso-helicate-type (so-called mesocates) with C-3h molecular symmetry. The two octahedral metal-tris(oxamate) moieties of opposite chiralities (Delta, Lambda form) are connected by three m-phenylene spacers at intermetallic distances of 6.822(2) (4) and 6.868(2) angstrom (5) to give a metallacryptand core. In the crystal lattice, the binding of these heterochiral dinickel(II) and dicobalt(II) triple mesocates to sodium(I) ions leads to oxamato-bridged heterobimetallic three-dimensional open-frameworks with a hexagonal diamond architecture having small pores of 17.566(4) (4) and 17.640(2) angstrom (5) in diameter where the crystallization water molecules and the sodium(I) countercations are hosted. Variable temperature (2.0-300 K) magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal relatively anisotropic S = 2 Ni-2(II) (4) and S = 3 Co-2(II) (5) ground states resulting from the moderate to weak intramolecular ferromagnetic coupling between the two high-spin Ni-II (S-Ni = 1) or Co-II (S-Co = 3/2) ions across the m-phenylenediamidate bridges [J = +3.6 (4) and +1.1 cm(-1) (5); H = -JS(1)center dot S-2]. A simple molecular orbital analysis of the electron exchange interaction identifies the p-type pathways of the meta-substituted phenylene spacers involving the d(z2) and d(x2-y2) pairs of magnetic orbitals of the two trigonally distorted octahedral high-spin M-II ions (M = Ni and Co) as responsible for the overall ferromagnetic coupling observed in 4 and 5 in agreement with a spin polarization mechanism. The decrease of the overall ferromagnetic coupling from 4 to 5 is in turn explained by the additional antiferromagnetic exchange contribution involving the d(xy) pair of magnetic orbitals of the two trigonally distorted octahedral high-spin Co-II ions across the sigma-type pathway of the meta-substituted phenylene spacers.
