Abstract: This paper reports a search for Higgs boson pair (hh) production in association with a vector boson ( W or Z) using 139 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The search is performed in final states in which the vector boson decays leptonically (W -> l nu, Z -> ll, nu nu with l = e, mu) and the Higgs bosons each decay into a pair of b-quarks. It targets Vhh signals from both non-resonant hh production, present in the Standard Model (SM), and resonant hh production, as predicted in some SM extensions. A 95% confidence-level upper limit of 183 (87) times the SM cross-section is observed (expected) for non-resonant Vhh production when assuming the kinematics are as expected in the SM. Constraints are also placed on Higgs boson coupling modifiers. For the resonant search, upper limits on the production cross-sections are derived for two specific models: one is the production of a vector boson along with a neutral heavy scalar resonance H, in the mass range 260-1000GeV, that decays into hh, and the other is the production of a heavier neutral pseudoscalar resonance A that decays into a Z boson and H boson, where the A boson mass is 360-800GeV and the H boson mass is 260-400GeV. Constraints are also derived in the parameter space of two-Higgs-doublet models.

Abstract: This letter reports the observation of () production in proton-proton collisions. This measurement uses the full Run 2 sample of events recorded at a center-of-mass energy of root= 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1. Events with a leptonically-decaying boson and at least two photons are considered. The background-only hypothesis is rejected with an observed and expected significance of 5.6 standard deviations. The inclusive fiducial production cross section of () and () events is measured to be fid = 13.8 +/- 1.1(stat)+2.1-2.0(syst) +/- 0.1(lumi) fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction.

Abstract: This letter presents a measurement of the nuclear modification factor of large-radius jets in root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV Pb thorn Pb collisions by the ATLAS experiment. The measurement is performed using 1.72 nb(-1) and 257 pb(-1) of Pb thorn Pb and pp data, respectively. The large-radius jets are reconstructed with the anti-kt algorithm using a radius parameter of R = 1.0, by reclustering anti-k(t) R = 0.2 jets, and are measured over the transverse momentum (p(T)) kinematic range of 158 < p(T) < 1000 GeV and absolute pseudorapidity |y| < 2.0. The large-radius jet constituents are further reclustered using the k(t) algorithm in order to obtain the splitting parameters, root d(12) and Delta R-12, which characterize the transverse momentum scale and angular separation for the hardest splitting in the jet, respectively. The nuclear modification factor, R-AA, obtained by comparing the Pb thorn Pb jet yields to those in pp collisions, is measured as a function of jet transverse momentum (p(T)) and root d(12) or Delta R-12. A significant difference in the quenching of large-radius jets having single subjet and those with more complex substructure is observed. Systematic comparison of jet suppression in terms of R-AA for different jet definitions is also provided. Presented results support the hypothesis that jets with hard internal splittings lose more energy through quenching and provide a new perspective for understanding the role of jet structure in jet suppression.

Abstract: A search for new phenomena giving rise to pairs of opposite electrically charged muons with impact parameters in the millimeter range is presented, using 139 fb(-1) of root s = 13 TeV pp collision data from the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search targets the gap in coverage between existing searches targeting final states with leptons with large displacement and prompt leptons. No significant excess over the background expectation is observed and exclusion limits are set on the mass of long-lived scalar supersymmetric muon-partners (smuons) with much lower lifetimes than previously targeted by displaced muon searches. Smuon lifetimes down to 1 ps are excluded for a smuon mass of 100 GeV, and smuon masses up to 520 GeV are excluded for a proper lifetime of 10 ps, at 95% confidence level. Finally, model-independent limits are set on the contribution from new phenomena to the signal-region yields.

Abstract: Asearch for the associated production of a heavy resonance with a top-quark or a top-antitop-quark pair, and decaying into a t (t) over bar pair is presented. The search uses the vdata recorded by the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider during the years 2015-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). Events containing exactly one electron ormuon are selected. The two hadronically decaying top quarks from the resonance decay are reconstructed using jets clustered with a large radius parameter of R = 1. The invariant mass spectrum of the two top quark candidates is used to search for a resonance signal in the range of 1.0 TeV to 3.2 TeV. The presence of a signal is examined using an approach with minimal model dependence followed by a model-dependent interpretation. No significant excess is observed over the background expectation. Upper limits on the production cross section times branching ratio at 95% confidence level are provided for a heavy Z' boson based on a simplified model, for Z' mass between 1.0 TeV and 3.0 TeV. The observed (expected) limits range from 21 (14) fb to 119 (86) fb depending on the choice of model parameters.
