  Abstract Motivated by the Goldbach conjecture in number theory and the Abelian bosonization mechanism on a cylindrical two-dimensional space-time, we study the reconstruction of a real scalar field as a product of two real fermion (so-called prime) fields whose Fourier expansion exclusively contains prime modes. We undertake the canonical quantization of such prime fields and construct the corresponding Fock space by introducing creation operators b(p)(dagger) – labeled by prime numbers p – acting on the vacuum. The analysis of our model, based on the standard rules of quantum field theory and the assumption of the Riemann hypothesis, allows us to prove that the theory is not renormalizable. We also comment on the potential consequences of this result concerning the validity or breakdown of the Goldbach conjecture for large integer numbers.

  Title Stringy Signals from Large-Angle Correlations in the Cosmic Microwave Background? Type Journal Article

  Abstract We interpret the lack of large-angle temperature correlations and the even-odd parity imbalance observed in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) by COBE, WMAP and Planck satellite missions as a possible stringy signal ultimately stemming from a composite inflaton field (e.g., a fermionic condensate). Based on causality arguments and a Fourier analysis of the angular two-point correlation function, two infrared cutoffs k(min)(even,odd) (satisfying k(min)(even) similar or equal to 2k(min)(odd)) are introduced to the CMB power spectrum associated, respectively, with periodic and antiperiodic boundary conditions of the fermionic constituents (echoing the Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond model in superstring theory), without resorting to any particular model.

  Title Precessing binary black holes as engines of electromagnetic helicity Type Journal Article

  Abstract We show that binary black hole mergers with precessing evolution can potentially excite photons from the quantum vacuum in such a way that total helicity is not preserved in the process. Helicity violation is allowed by quantum fluctuations that spoil the electric-magnetic duality symmetry of the classical Maxwell theory without charges. We show here that precessing binary black hole systems in astrophysics generate a flux of circularly polarized gravitational waves which, in turn, provides the required helical background that triggers this quantum effect. Solving the fully nonlinear Einstein’s equations with numerical relativity we explore the parameter space of binary systems and extract the detailed dependence of the quantum effect with the spins of the two black holes. We also introduce a set of diagrammatic techniques that allows us to predict when a binary black hole merger can or cannot emit circularly polarized gravitational radiation, based on mirror-symmetry considerations. This framework allows to understand and to interpret correctly the numerical results, and to predict the outcomes in potentially interesting astrophysical systems.

  Title Triangle mechanisms in the build up and decay of the N*(1875) Type Journal Article

  Abstract We studied the N*(1875)(3/ 2-) resonance with a multichannel unitary scheme, considering the Delta pi and Sigma * K, with their interaction extracted from chiral Lagrangians, and then added two more channels, the N*(1535) p and N sigma, which proceed via triangle diagrams involving the Sigma * K and Delta pi respectively in the intermediate states. The triangle diagram in the N*(1535) p case develops a singularity at the same energy as the resonance mass. We determined the couplings of the resonance to the different channels and the partial decay widths. We found a very large decay width to Sigma * K, and also observed that, due to interference with other terms, the N sigma channel has an important role in the pi pi mass distributions at low invariant masses, leading to an apparently large N sigma decay width. We discuss justifying the convenience of an experimental reanalysis of this resonance, in light of the findings of the paper, using multichannel unitary schemes.

  Title Charm-beauty meson bound states from B (B*)D(D*) and interaction B (B*)(D)over-bar((D)over-bar*) Type Journal Article

  Abstract We evaluate the s-wave interaction of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with both charm and beauty to investigate the possible existence of molecular BD, B* D, BD*, B* D*, B (D) over bar, B* (D) over bar, B (D) over bar*, or B* (D) over bar* meson states. The scattering amplitude is obtained implementing unitarity starting from a tree level potential accounting for the dominant vector meson exchange. The diagrams are evaluated using suitable extensions to the heavy flavor sector of the hidden gauge symmetry Lagrangians involving vector and pseudoscalar mesons, respecting heavy quark spin symmetry. We obtain bound states at energies above 7 GeV for BD (J(P) = 0(+)), B* D (1(+)), BD* (1(+)), and B* D* (0(+), 1(+,) 2(+)), all in isospin 0. For B (D) over bar (0(+)), B* (D) over bar (1(+)), B (D) over bar* (1(+)), and B* (D) over bar* (0(+), 1(+), 2(+)) we also find similar bound states in I = 0, but much less bound, which would correspond to exotic meson states with _ (b) over bar and (c) over bar quarks, and for the I = 1 we find a repulsive interaction. We also evaluate the scattering lengths in all cases, which can be tested in current investigations of lattice QCD.

  Abstract We study the appearance of structures in the decay of the B- into K-pi D--(s0)+ (2317) and K-pi D--(s1)+ (2460) final states by forming invariant mass distributions of pi D--(s0)+ and pi D--(s1)+ pairs, respectively. The structure in the distribution is associated to the kinematical triangle singularity that appears when the B- -> K- K*(0) D-0 (B- -> K- K*(0) D*(0)) decay process is followed by the decay of the K*(0) into pi(-) K+ and the subsequent rescattering of the K+ D-0 (K+ D*(0)) pair forming the D-s0(+) (2317) (D-s1(+) (2460)) resonance. We find this type of non-resonant peaks at 2850MeV in the invariant mass of pi D--(s0) pairs from B- -> K- pi(-) D-s0(+) (2317) decays and around 3000MeV in the invariant mass of pi D--(s1)+ pairs from B- -> K- pi(-) D-s1(+)(2460) decays. By employing the measured branching ratios of the B- -> K- K*(0) D-0 and B- -> K- K*(0) D*(0) decays, we predict the branching ratios for the processes B- into K-pi D--(s0)+ (2317) K-pi D--(s1)+ (2460), in the vicinity of the triangle singularity peak, to be about 8 x 10(-6) and 1 x 10(-6), respectively. The observation of this reaction would also give extra support to the molecular picture of the D-s0(+)(2317) and D-s1(+)(2460).

  Abstract We have chosen the reactions D-s(+) -> pi(+) pi(0)a(0)(980)(f(0)(980)) investigating the isospin violating channel D-s(+) -> pi+ pi(0)f(0)(980). The reaction was chosen because by varying the pi(0)a(0)(980)(f(0)(980)) invariant mass one goes through the peak of a triangle singularity emerging from D-s(+) -> pi(K) over bar *K, followed by (K) over bar* -> (K) over bar pi(0) and the further merging of K (K) over bar to produce the a(0)(980) or f(0)(980). We found that the amount of isospin violation had its peak precisely at the value of the pi(0)a(0)(980)(f(0)(980)) invariant mass where the singularity has its maximum, stressing the role of the triangle singularities as a factor to enhance the mixing of the f(0)(980) and a(0)(980) resonances. We calculate absolute rates for the reactions and show that they are within present measurable range. The measurement of these reactions would bring further information into the role of triangle singularities in isospin violation and the a(0) – f(0) mixing, in particular, and shed further light into the nature of the low energy scalar mesons.

  Title Triangle singularity in the B-> K- pi X-0 (3872) reaction and sensitivity to the X(3872) mass Type Journal Article

  Abstract We have done a study of the B--> K-pi X-0(3872) reaction by means of a triangle mechanism via the chain of reactions: B--> K-D*(0);(D) over bar*(0); D*(0)-> pi D-0(0); D-0(D) over bar*(0)-> X(3872). We show that this mechanism generates a triangle singularity in the pi X-0(3872) invariant mass for a very narrow window of the X(3872) mass, around the present measured values, and show that the peak positions and the shape of the mass distributions arc sensitive to the X(3872) mass, such that a measurement of the reaction can serve to improve on the present values of this mass. In particular, we point out that the X(3872) mass relative to the D-0(D) over bar*(0) threshold may be extracted from the asymmetry of the pi X-0 line shape.

  Abstract We study the J/psi -> gamma pi(+)pi(-), gamma pi(0)eta reactions from the perspective that they come from the J/psi -> phi(omega)pi(+)pi(-), rho(0)pi(0)eta reactions, where the rho(0), psi, and phi get converted into a photon via vector meson dominance. Using models successfully used previously to study the J/psi -> omega(phi)pi pi reactions, we make determinations of the invariant mass distributions for pi(+)pi(-) in the regions of the f(0)(500), f(0)(980), and for pi(0)eta in the region of the a(0)(980). The integrated differential widths lead to branching ratios below present upper bounds, but they are sufficiently large for future check in updated facilities.
