Title Updated determination of alpha(s)(m(tau)(2)) from tau decays Type Journal Article
Year 2016 Publication Modern Physics Letters A Abbreviated Journal Mod. Phys. Lett. A
  Volume 31 Issue 30 Pages 1630032 - 15pp
Keywords QCD; strong coupling; tau decays
Abstract Using the most recent release of the ALEPH tau decay data, we present a very detailed phenomenological update of the alpha(s)(m(tau)(2)) determination. We have exploited the sensitivity to the strong coupling in many different ways, exploring several complementary methodologies. All determinations turn out to be in excellent agreement, allowing us to extract a very reliable value of the strong coupling. We find alpha((nf =3))(s)(m(tau)(2)) = 0.328 +/- 0.012 which implies alpha((nf=5))(s)(M-Z(2)) = 0.1197 +/- 0.0014. We critically revise previous work, and point out the problems flawing some recent analyses which claim slightly smaller values.

Title Violations of quark-hadron duality in low-energy determinations of alpha(s) Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Journal of High Energy Physics Abbreviated Journal J. High Energy Phys.
  Volume 07 Issue 7 Pages 145 - 42pp
Keywords The Strong Coupling; Semi-Leptonic Decays; Specific QCD Phenomenology; Chiral Lagrangian
Abstract Using the spectral functions measured in tau decays, we investigate the actual numerical impact of duality violations on the extraction of the strong coupling. These effects are tiny in the standard alpha(s)(m(tau)(2)) determinations from integrated distributions of the hadronic spectrum with pinched weights, or from the total tau hadronic width. The pinched-weight factors suppress very efficiently the violations of duality, making their numerical effects negligible in comparison with the larger perturbative uncertainties. However, combined fits of alpha(s) and duality-violation parameters, performed with non-protected weights, are subject to large systematic errors associated with the assumed modelling of duality-violation effects. These uncertainties have not been taken into account in the published analyses, based on specific models of quark-hadron duality.

Title Nucleation and cavitation in parahydrogen Type Journal Article
Year 2012 Publication Chemical Physics Abbreviated Journal Chem. Phys.
  Volume 399 Issue Pages 213-217
Keywords Nucleation; Cavitation; Metastable phases; Liquid parahydrogen
Abstract We have used a density functional approach to investigate thermal homogeneous nucleation and cavitation in parahydrogen. The effect of electrons as seeds of heterogeneous cavitation in liquid parahydrogen is also discussed within the capillary model.

Title Radon Mitigation Applications at the Laboratorio Subterráneo de Canfranc (LSC) Type Journal Article
Year 2022 Publication Universe Abbreviated Journal Universe
  Volume 8 Issue 2 Pages 112 - 20pp
  Keywords radon; neutrinos; HPGe-detector; LSC
Abstract The Laboratorio Subterraneo de Canfranc (LSC) is the Spanish national hub for low radioactivity techniques and the associated scientific and technological applications. The concentration of the airborne radon is a major component of the radioactive budget in the neighborhood of the detectors. The LSC hosts a Radon Abatement System, which delivers a radon suppressed air with 1.1 & PLUSMN;0.2 mBq/m(3) of Rn-222. The radon content in the air is continuously monitored with an Electrostatic Radon Monitor. Measurements with the double beta decay demonstrators NEXT-NEW and CROSS and the gamma HPGe detectors show the important reduction of the radioactive background due to the purified air in the vicinity of the detectors. We also discuss the use of this facility in the LSC current program which includes NEXT-100, low background biology experiments and radiopure copper electroformation equipment placed in the radon-free clean room.

Title Spatially Dependent Decoherence and Anomalous Diffussion of Quantum Walks Type Journal Article
Year 2013 Publication Journal of Computational and Theoretical Nanoscience Abbreviated Journal J. Comput. Theor. Nanosci.
  Volume 10 Issue 7 Pages 1591-1595
Keywords Decoherence; Quantum Walk; Non-Translational Invariance
Abstract We analyze the long time behavior of a discrete time quantum walk subject to decoherence with a strong spatial dependence, acting on one half of the lattice. We show that, except for limiting cases on the decoherence parameter, the quantum walk at late times behaves sub-ballistically, meaning that the characteristic features of the quantum walk are not completely spoiled. Contrarily to expectations, the asymptotic behavior is non Markovian, and depends on the amount of decoherence. This feature can be clearly shown on the long time value of the Generalized Chiral Distribution (GCD).
