Title Causality violations in simulations of large and small heavy-ion collisions Type Journal Article

Abstract Heavy-ion collisions, such as Pb-Pb or p-Pb, produce extreme conditions in temperature and density that make the hadronic matter transition to a new state, called quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Simulations of heavy-ion collisions provide a way to improve our understanding of the QGP's properties. These simulations are composed of a hybrid description that results in final observables in agreement with accelerators like LHC and RHIC. However, recent works pointed out that these hydrodynamic simulations can display acausal behavior during the evolution in certain regions, indicating a deviation from a faithful representation of the underlying QCD dynamics. To pursue a better understanding of this problem and its consequences, this work simulated two different collision systems, Pb-Pb and p-Pb at root sNN = 5.02 TeV. In this context, our results show that causality violation, even though always present, typically occurs on a small part of the system, quantified by the total energy fraction residing in the acausal region. In addition, the acausal behavior can be reduced with changes in the prehydrodynamic factors and the definition of the bulk-viscous relaxation time. Since these aspects are fairly arbitrary in current simulation models, without solid guidance from the underlying theory, it is reasonable to use the disturbing presence of acausal behavior in current simulations to guide improvements towards more realistic modeling. While this work does not solve the acausality problem, it sheds more light on this issue and also proposes a way to solve this problem in simulations of heavy-ion collisions.

Title Experimental study of the nature of the 1(-) and 2(-) excited excited states in Be-10 using the Be-11(p, d) reaction in inverse kinematics Type Journal Article

Abstract The nature of the 1(-) and 2(-) excited states in Be-10 is studied using the Be-11(p, d) transfer reaction in inverse kinematics at 10A MeV at TRIUMF ISAC-II, in particular to assess whether either of them can be considered as an excited halo state. The angular distributions for both states are extracted using deuteron-gamma( )coincidences and analyzed using a transfer model taking into account one-step and two-step processes. A good fit of the angular distributions is obtained considering only the one-step process, whereby an inner p(3/2) neutron of Be-11 is removed, leaving the halo neutron intact. Higher-order processes however cannot be rejected. The small spectroscopic factors extracted suggest that the structure of both states is not uniquely halo-like, but rather display a more complex configuration mixing cluster and halo structures. Further insights are limited, as this experiment specifically probed the halo-like (but not cluster-like) Be-11 (1/2(+)) circle times (nu p(3/2))(-1) configuration in both states.

Title Measurement of the prompt-production cross-section ratio sigma(chi(c2))/sigma(chi(c1)) in pPb collisions at root s(NN)=8.16 TeV Type Journal Article
Year 2021 Publication Physical Review C Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. C
Volume 103 Issue 6 Pages 064905 - 10pp

Abstract This article reports the first measurement of prompt chi(c1) and chi(c2) charmonium production in nuclear collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies. The cross-section ratio sigma(chi(c2))/sigma(chi(c1)) is measured in pPb collisions at root s(NN) = 8.16 TeV, collected with the LHCb experiment. The chi(c1,2) states are reconstructed via their decay to a J/psi meson, subsequently decaying into a pair of oppositely charged muons, and a photon, which is reconstructed in the calorimeter or via its conversion in the detector material. The cross-section ratio is consistent with unity in the two considered rapidity regions. Comparison with a corresponding cross-section ratio previously measured by the LHCb Collaboration in pp collisions suggests that chi(c1) and chi(c2) states are similarly affected by nuclear effects occurring in pPb collisions.

Title J/psi photoproduction in Pb-Pb peripheral collisions at root S-NN=5 TeV Type Journal Article

Abstract The photoproduction of J/psi mesons at low transverse momentum is studied in peripheral lead-lead collisions collected by the LHCb Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 210 μb(-1). The J/psi candidates are reconstructed through the prompt decay into two muons of opposite charge in the rapidity region of 2.0 < y < 4.5. The results significantly improve previous measurements and are compared to the latest theoretical prediction.

Title Measurement of Ξc+ production in pPb collisions at √sNN=8.16 TeV at LHCb Type Journal Article

Abstract A study of prompt Xi(+)(c) production in proton-lead collisions is performed with the LHCb experiment at a centerof-mass energy per nucleon pair of 8.16 TeV in 2016 in pPb and Pbp collisions with an estimated integrated luminosity of approximately 12.5 and 17.4 nb(-1), respectively. The Xi(+)(c) roduction cross section, as well as the Xi(+)(c) to Lambda(+)(c) production cross-section ratio, are measured as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity and compared to the latest theory predictions. The forward-backward asymmetry is also measured as a function of the Xi(+)(c) ransverse momentum. The results provide strong constraints on theoretical calculation and are a unique input for hadronization studies in different collision systems.
