Abstract |
Neutrinoless double-beta decay is the most powerful tool to probe not only for Majorana neutrino masses but for lepton number violating physics in general. We discuss relations between lepton number violation, double-beta decay and neutrino mass, review a general Lorentz-invariant parametrization of the double-beta decay rate, highlight a number of different new physics models showing how different mechanisms can trigger double-beta decay and, finally, discuss possibilities of discriminating and testing these models and mechanisms in complementary experiments. |

Abstract |
Current results of the MiniBooNE experiment show excess events that indicate neutrino oscillations, but only if one goes beyond the standard 3 family scenario. Recently a different explanation of the events has been given, not in terms of oscillations but by the production and decay of a massive sterile neutrino with large transition magnetic moment. We study the effect of such a sterile neutrino in the rare decays tau(-) -> mu(-)mu(+)pi(-)nu and tau(-) -> mu(-)mu(+)e(-)nu nu. We find that searches for these decays, featuring displaced vertices between the mu(-) and the other charged particles, constitute reliable tests for the existence of the sterile neutrino proposed to explain the MiniBooNE anomaly. These searches could be done with already existing experimental data. |

Abstract |
We report on the observation of a new isomeric state in Ni-68. We suggest that the newly observed state at 168(1) keV above the first 2(+) state is a pi(2p-2h) 0(+) state across the major Z = 28 shell gap. Comparison with theoretical calculations indicates a pure proton intruder configuration and the deduced low-lying structure of this key nucleus suggests a possible shape coexistence scenario involving a highly deformed state. |

Abstract |
AC++/OpenCL software platform for emission image reconstruction of data from pinhole cameras has been developed. The software incorporates a new, accurate but computationally costly, probability distribution function for operating on list-mode data from detector stacks. The platform architecture is more general than previous works, supporting advanced models such as arbitrary probability distribution, collimation geometry and detector stack geometry. The software was implemented such that all performance-critical operations occur on OpenCL devices, generally GPUs. The performance of the software is tested on several commodity CPU and GPU devices. |

Abstract |
A novel technique for 3D gamma-ray imaging is presented. This method combines the positron annihilation Compton scattering imaging technique with a supplementary position sensitive detector, which registers gamma-rays scattered in the object at angles of about 90 degrees. The 3D coordinates of the scattering location can be determined rather accurately by applying the Compton principle. This method requires access to the object from two orthogonal sides and allows one to achieve a position resolution of few mm in all three space coordinates. A feasibility study for a 3D camera is presented based on Monte Carlo calculations. |
